Mario in the sky with diamonds 0

For the longest time, it seemed like something was amiss from Mario games. I would argue that it has been at least a decade since this “it factor” vanished. The product of this missing “it factor” was soulless gimmick titles like Luigi’s Mansion and Mario Sunshine. For awhile it seemed like Nintendo acknowledged this too, with shameless reaches at nostalgia like New Super Mario Bros and Yoshi’s 2. These were titles struggling to recreate the magic of better games by imitating them, step by s...

The Wii has its "killer app" 1

To be blunt, Super Mario Galaxy is a great game. Obviously the best the Wii has seen in this year it has been out. This is basically the game that nearly every Wii owner bought their Wii for. This is the game that hardcore gamers have been begging for. Although it is a fantastic game for longtime Nintendo fans, new and non-gamers will love it as well. For example, my six year old sister saw me playing this and asked if she could start a file. Nintendo has nailed it. The story, as in every other...

    Pure, flawless fun 0

The first game console I ever owned was the Super Nintendo. It was a gift I received for Christmas, one that filled me with excitement reminiscent of the meme-tastic N64 kid. The pack in game, Super Mario World, was my first encounter with Mario and one of the earliest experiences that ignited my love of gaming. When my nine-year-old sister asked for a Wii this past Christmas, it took me back to my childhood. My parents secured the console, but I knew what gift I had to bring: Super Mario Galaxy...

Ground Control to Major Mario 0

Thirty years ago, a launch title for the Nintendo Entertainment System named Super Mario Bros. forever changed the video game industry; almost single-handedly resurrecting the market from the crash of '83. The game ignited the platforming genre to parts never seen previously, creating a multitude gaming tropes common today. Fast-forward to 1996, and Nintendo released Super Mario 64, reinventing the wheel yet again, forever altering video games in a 3D environment. Fast-forward yet again to 2007,...

    Quasi-Perfection 0

While I won't deny the fact that I'm part Nintendo fanboy, I've been quite on the fence about how I felt about the Wii and its software. Most critics of the Wii cite inferior hardware, gimmicky controls, and weak software as a reason to ignore it, and for a time, I believed the Wii couldn't produce a "next-gen" experience. With that said, Super Mario Galaxy was the first Wii game that genuinely impressed me, and I felt it appropriate to have Super Mario Galaxy to be my first review on Giantbomb....

    Nintendo's Finest Game Yet 1

(this was written back in 2008 on GameSpot - to see my more recent musings on this game, click here) Super Mario Galaxy is an amalgamation of everything right with Nintendo and all its shady Wii schemes. It looks absolutely beautiful, it knows the limitations of the control scheme and uses it to its advantage, and it provides comfort that, indeed, Nintendo knows what it's doing. If the entire Wii generation ends up comparable to SMG, well, Nintendo will prove its point that the Wii really is a...

The best Marioadventure to date ! 0

Mario is back for REAL for the first time since Mario 64 and he revolutionizes the series, the genre and the gamingindustry before hes done! This is the game that Wii owners bought their console for last year and its the game that pretty much anyone whos ever heard of Mario has been wanting to try out since they first heard of it. Its the game that a whole world has gazed at in amazement for years and its finally here. It delivers on everything and only a few annoyances keeps this from being the...

Mario is back and has never been better 1

Their have been many many great Mario games over the years. From Super Mario Bros. 3 to Mario 64, they have all been great in many ways. Which means Super Mario Galaxy has a lot to live up to. And being set in space maybe it would be a poor change for Mario. But no. This game lives up to all expectations. The story for the game is hardly different from usual Mario games; Princess Peach is captuered by the king of the Koopa's: Bowser. But this time, Bowser has kidnapped Peach and brought her to ...

Mario's back from his Sunny vacation! 0

Super Mario 64 ushered the platforming game play of old into the 3d realm, setting a very high standard for the Mario series and video games in general. When Super Mario Sunshine failed to recapture that special Mario magic, it was with cautious optimism that we awaited Super Mario Galaxy. New Super Mario Bros for the DS proved to be an enjoyable romp down memory lane, so perhaps Galaxy was worth getting excited about. Little did we know just how great it was… In the game’s spectacular intro, B...

Mario, An iconic name in the world today, Almost every mario game up to this point has always been fun but Mario galaxywas par at best, i didnt hate it and i didnt love it its about in the middle. The gameplay was smooth and fun just as most mario games, Animations were smooth and made the world seem vibrant and animated. But the whole planet jumpinf thing kinda bugged me. Not for stupid reasons mind you, Mostly the platforming was kinda off during some places. A planet that had holes all in it ...

A Galaxy Fit For Mario 1

First of all, the game is amazing if you ask me. So many enemies to fight, many galaxies to discover and the starring role is amazing! The best part about the game is collecting stars. Rosalina's debut in the game is cool. So I say it's a great game and I give it a 5 because it's very awesome!...

The plumber in red and blue has come a long way from running up slopes and jumping over barrels. In the latest adventure, the Italian hero finds himself in the vastness of space, where up and down have no definitive meaning. Once again, the super-villain, Bowser, is up to no good. He has kidnapped princess Peach, and escaped deep into the universe, and it’s up to Mario to save the day. After the princess is kidnapped, you awaken to find yourself in an unknown world. Soon after, you meet some nice...

    Super Mario Galaxy Review 0

The graphics in this game are technically the best you'll currently find on the console and there is no shortage of detail in the indulgent world of Super Mario Galaxy. The level design is brilliant, you'll have the wide, open cosmos around you at most times and the levels all look fun, with each keeping its own theme. The game also uses its level design to take a jump back in time, reflecting environments such as the sandy beaches of Sunshine and the icy landscapes we saw in 64. The game also t...

    Super Mario Galaxy Review 1

Finally, the time has come, i actually have the time to review the game i had been planning to review since November 12th, and this is officially the first game i have had to write down notes for (In my other reviews, it was literally all free-styling). I remember distinctly on November 16th, the date it came out in England, and my anticipation was way higher than any of my friends, you have to remember that the last Mario game we had was Super Mario Sunshine, and that was 5 freakin' long years ...

    Super Mario Galaxy Review 0

I have had the Wii for quite some time now and realized that I have never given my thoughts on most of the games I have played for it. This includes one of my new favorite games, Super Mario Galaxy.I have always been a Nintendo fan, especially a Mario fan, since as far back as I can remember. I've always loved platforming and running Mario through the different levels. Although I was part of the few who actually enjoyed Super Mario Sunshine, I realized that it was missing something. Too much of ...

The Game That Made Me Love The Mushroom Kingdom Again... 0

Whether you know it or not, I was a big fan of Mario way back. (Super Mario Bros 3 is still one of my 5 favorites of all time) But then again, who wasn't? Which is why I was so disheartened the past two generations with Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, while good games, they never really clicked with me and I ended up not finishing either of them. There was something missing from them, something unexplainable. A feeling that just wasn't there. New Super Mario Bros tried to return it, but...

Best Mario video game of all time, yes, even better than Odyssey. 0

I don't know what to say about this game that hasn't been said already. This is the best 3D Mario game of all time. No hyperbole, I'm serious. Every aspect of this game is perfect (or almost perfect). The only complaint that can be written about the game is the camera can be kind of weird at times. The reason that this game is better than 2 is because the story is better. You feel a sense of pressure to help Rosalina (especially when you read her storybook) and the hub world is beautiful to walk...

i know that games don't have to be realistic, but smaller planets don't have and much gravity as earth, in fact, in reality, smaller planets have far less gravity so if you're on a smaller planet, you'd feel much laughter than you'd feel on earth. Also the dolphin emulator version of the game along with the sequel has slightly less star ratings than four of the emulator versions of Sonic's games. Look it up on dolphin wiki if you don't believe me....

An absolutely stunning game that all should enjoy. 1

I grew up with Mario. I played all the greats, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World 1/2, and of course, Super Mario 64. I also played the somewhat of a letdown, Super Mario Sunshine. I'm happy and proud to announce that Mario is back as the king of platformers and is a huge step up from Super Mario Sunshine. The graphics certainly draw some attention with their high amounts of shine. It really is about as realistic as you could go without it loosing that Mario charm. Everythi...

Everything looked so real and the whole lands and galaxies were perfectly detailed.Gameplay/Control Mechanics:The gameplay was awesome. Boss fights were really fun. Simply One of The Best Video Games Ever Made 1

After Super Mario 64 the Mario franchise has been in a slump. Sunshine was an okay game but nothing compared to Mario 64. Now Nintendo wanted to bring another Mario game to their consoles and boy is it amazing. Let me first say that Super Mario Galaxy the best Wii game yet and one of the Greatest Games Ever. Secret Short Review 006- Super Mario Galaxy 0

SUPER MARIO GALAXY   + An honorable sequel to Super Mario 64  + Missions and worlds are incredibly varied.  + Atmosphere and design are incredibly well done. - Camera is a bit fiddly.  - Spring power-up can be a bitch to handle.  You know, before this game came out, I was afraid that Nintendo was too far gone from what made me fall in love with them as a kid. The one-two punch of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Brothers hit me pretty hard, but the one thing I remembered was simple: Ninte...

Well anyways, let's go down the controls: control stick: move mario, sensor: collect star bits, A button: jump, B button: fire starbits, D pad: camera, plus and minus: pause. Super Mario Galaxy Review 0

When Super Mario 64 was released way back in 1996, fans of the 2D Mario games were stunned at how Nintendo took their most beloved mascot and took him into the third dimension. Seeing Mario in 3D for the first time was a great moment for fans of the series, and showed how much more elaborate the levels could be. Super Mario Sunshine, while still being an amazing game, is considered by some not to be a true successor to Super Mario 64, and since then, those people have been waiting for the true s...

Gotta be honest, when I first picked up this game, I was thinking it's going to be dull and boring, well, I guess I was kind of wrong. Sure, there was no Intense action, or super developed combat system, nor RPG elements that I love so much, and sometimes certain levels could piss you off (Damn you, bowser), but all I can say is that this game had one of the most beautiful designs I ever watched, everything is toy-like, vey kid-friendly in a way, and yet, it looks awesome, enemies are damn cute,...

A Perfect Blend of the Old and the New 0

Super Mario Galaxy is the Mario game for everyone. I don’t mean ‘everyone’ in the typical sense of it being easy and family-friendly, but that it has something for every gamer from the new to the old and from the casual to the hardcore. Since Mario is now both in space and on the Wii gamers might think that the game relies heavily upon motion controls and gimmicky gravity-based regions. Instead, the game does make good use of gravity, but still contains plenty of traditional platforming and ev...

Review: Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) 0

We've been told that space is the final frontier, but in the US we're witnessing the retiring of our nation's fleet of space shuttles due to scaled back government funding for manned outer space exploration. Sure, private enterprises like SpaceX (with tremendous help from NASA) will continue the bold pursuit into the unknown, but the initiative's removal from the national docket leaves it to capture the attention of those who seek it out rather than the hearts of potentially any forward-thinking...

Superb level design. Suffers a bit from the Wii control scheme 0

With the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 pushing technology more and more each year, observers and both lamented and praised the Wii for eschewing the technology race and focusing instead on value and gameplay. A lot of Wii games, unfortunately, have failed to live up to the promise of delivering great gameplay to make up for the Gamecube graphics. Super Mario Galaxy is one shining example to the contrary. It won't be confused with Crysis or Assassin's Creed anytime soon in the graphics department, but th...

Amazing game, but not perfect 1

Super Mario Galaxy has been out since November 2007, but I haven't had chance to play this before now. Many regard this best Wii game around. Metacritic and GameRankings have this game rated at 97%. Great game yes, but I wouldn't, and wont rate this so high. Read why. Super Mario Galaxy is 3D platformer and continues the same line of story as in every Super Mario game so far. Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach and Mario need to rescue her while travelling through vast selection of levels/worlds. The ...

Most fun I've had with Mario since Super Mario 64 0

Super Mario Galaxy is an absolute gem of a platformer.  Sure it might seen a little out of the box with a Mario game that is set in space, however the gameplay you experience is almost unprecedented.  I haven't had this much fun with a video game in a LONG time and that's saying quite a bit.    There is a great deal of variety in gameplay mechanics as well as just the right amount of challenge and collection pieces to not be too easy or too hard.  The graphics are great with amazing colors that ...

Since Sunshine was such a let down its great to see that this game is so greatSo to start off this is quite revolutionary but its still the same mario formula. You will have a HUB and then you jus go to each level like you would in any other 3D mario game. Accept now you are in a space so that really gives the game a great estetic look. These days, you see Mario playing various sports or throwing a party most of the time. But, it is rare that you see a Mario platformer, which nowadays come around about every 5 years, and these are truly a blessing. Super Mario Galaxy makes no exception, and is arguable the best Mario game to date. Super Mario Galaxy is a masterpiece in game making taking the idea of what 3D platforming was and bringing it full circle in it's level design.
