Mario in the sky with diamonds 0

For the longest time, it seemed like something was amiss from Mario games. I would argue that it has been at least a decade since this “it factor” vanished. The product of this missing “it factor” was soulless gimmick titles like Luigi’s Mansion and Mario Sunshine. For awhile it seemed like Nintendo acknowledged this too, with shameless reaches at nostalgia like New Super Mario Bros and Yoshi’s 2. These were titles struggling to recreate the magic of better games by imitating them, step by s...

Pure, flawless fun 0

The first game console I ever owned was the Super Nintendo. It was a gift I received for Christmas, one that filled me with excitement reminiscent of the meme-tastic N64 kid. The pack in game, Super Mario World, was my first encounter with Mario and one of the earliest experiences that ignited my love of gaming. When my nine-year-old sister asked for a Wii this past Christmas, it took me back to my childhood. My parents secured the console, but I knew what gift I had to bring: Super Mario Galaxy...

Quasi-Perfection 0

While I won't deny the fact that I'm part Nintendo fanboy, I've been quite on the fence about how I felt about the Wii and its software. Most critics of the Wii cite inferior hardware, gimmicky controls, and weak software as a reason to ignore it, and for a time, I believed the Wii couldn't produce a "next-gen" experience. With that said, Super Mario Galaxy was the first Wii game that genuinely impressed me, and I felt it appropriate to have Super Mario Galaxy to be my first review on Giantbomb....

The best Marioadventure to date ! 0

Mario is back for REAL for the first time since Mario 64 and he revolutionizes the series, the genre and the gamingindustry before hes done! This is the game that Wii owners bought their console for last year and its the game that pretty much anyone whos ever heard of Mario has been wanting to try out since they first heard of it. Its the game that a whole world has gazed at in amazement for years and its finally here. It delivers on everything and only a few annoyances keeps this from being the...

Mario is back and has never been better 0

Their have been many many great Mario games over the years. From Super Mario Bros. 3 to Mario 64, they have all been great in many ways. Which means Super Mario Galaxy has a lot to live up to. And being set in space maybe it would be a poor change for Mario. But no. This game lives up to all expectations. The story for the game is hardly different from usual Mario games; Princess Peach is captuered by the king of the Koopa's: Bowser. But this time, Bowser has kidnapped Peach and brought her to ...

Mario's back from his Sunny vacation! 0

Super Mario 64 ushered the platforming game play of old into the 3d realm, setting a very high standard for the Mario series and video games in general. When Super Mario Sunshine failed to recapture that special Mario magic, it was with cautious optimism that we awaited Super Mario Galaxy. New Super Mario Bros for the DS proved to be an enjoyable romp down memory lane, so perhaps Galaxy was worth getting excited about. Little did we know just how great it was… In the game’s spectacular intro, B...

The Wii has its "killer app" 0

To be blunt, Super Mario Galaxy is a great game. Obviously the best the Wii has seen in this year it has been out. This is basically the game that nearly every Wii owner bought their Wii for. This is the game that hardcore gamers have been begging for. Although it is a fantastic game for longtime Nintendo fans, new and non-gamers will love it as well. For example, my six year old sister saw me playing this and asked if she could start a file. Nintendo has nailed it. The story, as in every other...

Nintendo's Finest Game Yet 0

(this was written back in 2008 on GameSpot - to see my more recent musings on this game, click here) Super Mario Galaxy is an amalgamation of everything right with Nintendo and all its shady Wii schemes. It looks absolutely beautiful, it knows the limitations of the control scheme and uses it to its advantage, and it provides comfort that, indeed, Nintendo knows what it's doing. If the entire Wii generation ends up comparable to SMG, well, Nintendo will prove its point that the Wii really is a...

Mario flew just past the point of awesome. 0

Mario, An iconic name in the world today, Almost every mario game up to this point has always been fun but Mario galaxywas par at best, i didnt hate it and i didnt love it its about in the middle. The gameplay was smooth and fun just as most mario games, Animations were smooth and made the world seem vibrant and animated. But the whole planet jumpinf thing kinda bugged me. Not for stupid reasons mind you, Mostly the platforming was kinda off during some places. A planet that had holes all in it ...

Simply One of The Best Video Games Ever Made 0

After Super Mario 64 the Mario franchise has been in a slump. Sunshine was an okay game but nothing compared to Mario 64. Now Nintendo wanted to bring another Mario game to their consoles and boy is it amazing. Let me first say that Super Mario Galaxy the best Wii game yet and one of the Greatest Games Ever. Galaxy is bye far the best looking Wii game to date. Its graphics are the best looking Nintendo game ever. With fast load times slick menus I couldn't of asked for more. The game play is n...

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! 0

In my opinion this is the best WII game, and will apeal to a much wider audience than SSBB, as i dont see any reason in buying that game. As for Gaxlay well I basicly bought my WII for it. Some people might think that it doesnt have a story line therefore it renders it's useless, well you should think again becuase the story isnt the best but it definetly stands out more than in the past mario games. Also the levels arnt so linear (not just running right). The physx and graphics are definetly th...

I am Incredibly Pleased 0

Super Mario Galaxy is a great game. Oddly enough, water effects always seem to be the best on Nintendo systems. Go figure. This game looks beautiful. The art style and graphics really make up for an amazing product. The unique gameplay doesn't dissapoint either. But, the music really impressed me. Full orchestra and a well-written score really add to the experiecne of playing this game. If you own a Wii, but this game.........now! 5 out of 5...

A Galaxy Fit For Mario 0

First of all, the game is amazing if you ask me. So many enemies to fight, many galaxies to discover and the starring role is amazing! The best part about the game is collecting stars. Rosalina's debut in the game is cool. So I say it's a great game and I give it a 5 because it's very awesome!...

One of Mario's finest adventures 0

The story behind Galaxy will come as no surprise to anyone who has played a Mario game before, basically Mario receives a letter from Peach to come to the castle as she has a special gift for him, however once Mario arrives at the castle he finds Bowser and his son causing chaos with the aid of a fleet of airships and before his very eyes a UFO picks the Princess’s castle from the ground and sets off into space.Mario is obviously is quite miffed that this has happened once again, probably thinki...

Super Mario Galaxy Review 0

I have to admit, I wasn't that excited for this game. I thought it would be good, but not great. After playing this though, I knew I was wrong. This is one f the greatest games that I've ever played. In terms of story, there's not much. Princess peach has been captured by Bowser, yet again, and Mario has to go rescue her. There is also an optional side story involving a princess named Rosalina. The gameplay, on the other hand, is where Galaxy really shines. It plays perfectly and doesn't use the Wi...

A recognizable masterpiece. 0

Super Mario Galaxy is a masterpiece in game making taking the idea of what 3D platforming was and bringing it full circle in it's level design. It's a bright, colorful and imaginative joy throughout. Even in frustrating moments ( moments that challenged me with gameplay)  i couldn't help but to be reminded, "...but still, this is totally a masterpiece".In it you must save Princes Peach, cause...she's prone to kidnapping? ...yeah. Regardless of the story it's all put together to serve you various...

Most fun I've had with Mario since Super Mario 64 0

Super Mario Galaxy is an absolute gem of a platformer.  Sure it might seen a little out of the box with a Mario game that is set in space, however the gameplay you experience is almost unprecedented.  I haven't had this much fun with a video game in a LONG time and that's saying quite a bit.    There is a great deal of variety in gameplay mechanics as well as just the right amount of challenge and collection pieces to not be too easy or too hard.  The graphics are great with amazing colors that ...

Super Mario Galaxy Review 0

I have had the Wii for quite some time now and realized that I have never given my thoughts on most of the games I have played for it. This includes one of my new favorite games, Super Mario Galaxy.I have always been a Nintendo fan, especially a Mario fan, since as far back as I can remember. I've always loved platforming and running Mario through the different levels. Although I was part of the few who actually enjoyed Super Mario Sunshine, I realized that it was missing something. Too much of ...

Amazing 0

This is a fantastic platformer with the right mix of easy, challenging, and infuriating levels. The galaxy theme is somewhat of a gimmick, especially since several levels take place on only one planetoid, but for the most part it serves as a fantastic way to break levels into sections which can be wildly different from one another without feeling forced. Graphically Super Mario Galaxy gives me great hope for the Wii. It uses the strategy I believe every game for this system should use, keep it ...

Mario makes Jason Vorhees proud! 0

Nintendo has to be on something. Think about it. If I told you that a small Italian plumber flies through space to save the universe and his (pseudo) girlfriend, you would probably start foaming at the mouth and fall to the ground convulsing or run away screaming and failing your arms wildly. Nevertheless, Super Mario Galaxy provides an amazingly challenging platformer dressed up in a super cute polish with a new mind-bending look at something we have never seen before in the Mario universe:...

For many years Mario has always taken the spotlight for Nintendo every year on any Nintendo system. Mario has strucked the Wii and got alot of people's attention in 2007 with Mario Galaxy.Basic story Princess Peach gets kiddnapped by Bowser and his army and it's up to Mario to save the princess. But this time Mario has to go through the universe and collecting stars to help the Lumas and there mother Rosalina who helps Mario out on his quest to save Peach and the fate of the unvierse. Mario brings his charming Gameplay upon this amazing adventure th 0

Super mario Galaxy Was nintendos big mario game for the Wii. Actually I feel they actually have a right to say that this time. Since Sunshine was such a let down its great to see that this game is so greatSo to start off this is quite revolutionary but its still the same mario formula. You will have a HUB and then you jus go to each level like you would in any other 3D mario game. Accept now you are in a space so that really gives the game a great estetic look. Speaking of how the game looks it ...

A superb game, but still shares some flaws. 0

First of all, Super Mario Galaxy should have had better graphics. That's definite. With the Wii's hardware, the graphics could have had much more detail. Also, the camera angle was very annoying at times. However, all of the enemies were fun to battle, and this is probably the first Mario game to actually have more than 3 ways to attack an enemy. I liked how they featured Luigi as a playable character after finishing the story with Mario, and it was cool how Luigi and the Toads literally helped ...

The plumber in red and blue has come a long way from running up slopes and jumping over barrels. In the latest adventure, the Italian hero finds himself in the vastness of space, where up and down have no definitive meaning. Once again, the super-villain, Bowser, is up to no good. He has kidnapped princess Peach, and escaped deep into the universe, and it’s up to Mario to save the day. After the princess is kidnapped, you awaken to find yourself in an unknown world. Soon after, you meet some nice...

The best 3D Platformer ever created. 0

THE GOOD: The controls are smooth, extremely responsive and feel right once you get used to them; Plenty of gameplay variety with the right amount of very well implemented fresh ideas and the right amount of familiar platforming gameplay - all refined almost to perfection; Simple and intuitive use of the Wii remote that makes the experience more engrossing than it would have been with a regular controller; Some of the best and more diverse level designs of any 3D platformer, that are able to ...

This is definitely the game the Wii was made for. 0

This game is absolutely outstanding. It definitely deserves it's title of GOTY 2007. If you are a Wii owner this is the one and only must have game for the Wii. As good as SSBB,MKW,MOH2, and all the other high rated games this is the one game you have to have or get. The gameplay in this is incredible. You'll find yourself playing this game at 3 in the morning just because its so fun and smooth. The game doesn't over-use or under-use the Wii-mote, well at least to me. The sound is one of the man...

Its hard to call a game like this childish 0

If you belong to a certain age group, namely the aging gamer group, you'll most likely have some sort of affinity towards Super Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog.   But  lets face it, now a days, neither of these guys really appeal to the hardcore gamers.  Sure they are gaming icons that looks good on T-shirts but outside of children and loyal fan boys most people would rather be in the boots of Marcus Phoenix or Niko Bellic.Razor sharp controls, creative level design, and something new is all you eve...

Everyone's Favorite Plumber is back.. IN SPACE. 0

Mario's latest romp on the Wii won't disappoint long time fans. All the old features of Super Mario we have come to love over the years are still here along with a few new twists for fans and newcomers alike.Super Mario Galaxy is one of those games Wii owners have been waiting for, and it is finally here. A Whole New World... 0

Mario on the wii had two possibilities, either it would be a visually updated version of Mario 64 with a few motion controls thrown in or it would be a game that’s wholly original. What would never have been suspected is that it could be both at the same time. From the moment Mario first appears on the screen it’s easy to tell how much work has gone in to the visuals. It has no highly realistic graphics packed full of polygons, but what it does have is a very unique style to it that makes it one...

Super Mario galaxy is the newest installment in probably NINTENDOS most popular franchise, and it's understandable why!Like most Mario games you play as the lead plumber Mario and go into different realms(or in this case worlds!) and try to find the STAR at the end of the level, when you have enough stars you go to a special realm/world and fight a boss there to get the GRAND STAR!Super Mario Galaxy is the plumbers first proper game on the Wii and thankfully it's fantastic! The controls are exell...

Super Mario Galaxy Review 0

The Good: One of the most enjoyable Mario games for a long time, superb graphics and sound, awesome creativity, somewhat long, strong replay value, surprisingly good controlsThe Bad: Not a very powerful story, very easy and not punishing remotely, occasional camera/gravity problems, no multiplayer--Before I get a bunch of crap about how lame my complaints are, remember one thing: this is more of a hardcore gamer point of view. I understand that this game was aimed for all audiences, but this is ...

I grew up with Mario. I played all the greats, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World 1/2, and of course, Super Mario 64. I also played the somewhat of a letdown, Super Mario Sunshine. I'm happy and proud to announce that Mario is back as the king of platformers and is a huge step up from Super Mario Sunshine. The graphics certainly draw some attention with their high amounts of shine. It really is about as realistic as you could go without it loosing that Mario charm. Everythi...

Super Mario Galaxy Review 0

Lets start off with the story on super Mario galaxy. The story in this game is among the best. I love all the stories in Mario when browser steels peach but this one is the best. The whole space idea I thought was great. It had a good story behind it. The story when you had to get enough was great when you had to go into different places and blast off into different levels, which I thought, was interesting. The levels in Super Mario Galaxy are great they put allot of thought into them and they al...

How They Gonna Top This 0

In 1996 nintendo made a game called super mario 64. That game redefined platformers and all 3D games after it. Many dvelopers including nintendo have tried to capture the feeling of that game, none have been able to do it, until now. Nintendo has finally made a game that I think is safe to think that is able to superpass Sm64. Presentation: Like almost all mario games galaxy does not have a heavy emphasis on plot. Bowser is back and he kidnappes peach and you have to save her. You meet up with a...

Mario's Next Adventure is an Awesome One 0

After a pretty good, but not great GameCube Mario 3D platformer, Mario Sunshine, the newest Mario plaformer,Super Mario Galaxy, is the best Mario game since the legendary industry changing Super Mario 64.So, in Super Mario Galaxy your mission is to... what other than save Princess Peach. Galaxy's story isn't anything new by any stretch of the imagination. The story of the game follows the same formula and concept as most of the other Mario games in the past. Super Mario Galaxy is one of those games you just can't miss. 0

These days, you see Mario playing various sports or throwing a party most of the time. But, it is rare that you see a Mario platformer, which nowadays come around about every 5 years, and these are truly a blessing. Super Mario Galaxy makes no exception, and is arguable the best Mario game to date. Super Mario Galaxy breathes some life into 3-D platformers, which have had a huge plummet downwards over the years.Well, once again, Peach is captured by Bowser, but what else is new? Super Mario Galaxy Review 0

When Super Mario 64 was released way back in 1996, fans of the 2D Mario games were stunned at how Nintendo took their most beloved mascot and took him into the third dimension. Seeing Mario in 3D for the first time was a great moment for fans of the series, and showed how much more elaborate the levels could be. Super Mario Sunshine, while still being an amazing game, is considered by some not to be a true successor to Super Mario 64, and since then, those people have been waiting for the true s...

Review: Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) 0

We've been told that space is the final frontier, but in the US we're witnessing the retiring of our nation's fleet of space shuttles due to scaled back government funding for manned outer space exploration. Sure, private enterprises like SpaceX (with tremendous help from NASA) will continue the bold pursuit into the unknown, but the initiative's removal from the national docket leaves it to capture the attention of those who seek it out rather than the hearts of potentially any forward-thinking...

Mario games dont get much better 0

Super Mario Galaxy had the potential to just copy Mario Sunshine or Mario 64. This would have a made a good game for most gamers and a great one for avid Mario fans. The weird thing is Nintendo made an incredibly new sequel. This is perhaps the best game in 2007 and this was no lackluster year. There is absolutely nothing you can complain about with this game. The graphics are some of the best we may ever see on the Wii for awhile. It just doesn't hit you with great modernization of our favorite...
