Goo Ball

#4 Posted by LordAndrew (14430 posts) -

I'm going to pretend the round thing is Gish...

#5 Posted by Binman88 (3692 posts) -

I know what the circular one is.

They teased on their blog the other day "a one of them sticks, one of them dashes, one of them changes form and one of them isn't organic". The "one of them sticks" part makes me think that one of the characters will essentially be a re-skinned Gish.

Yeah, Goo-ball sounds like a good guess. And it's so cool that the robot from Machinarium is in it!

That was before they revealed Josef, the robot. He is the Non-organic one. So, the four silhouettes most likely depict three characters, because one changes shape.

None of the main xbox characters are in it, so no tim from braid.
And their building all exclusive character levels which should be cool.

#10 Posted by LordAndrew (14430 posts) -

Yeah, a goo ball from World of Goo could work similarly to Gish, I reckon. What are some indie game characters that can change form?

#11 Posted by Legend (2664 posts) -

I wonder if there will be a character that has a similar ability to Tim. His ability is pretty useful in some levels.

#12 Posted by Bloodgraiv3 (2690 posts) -

I wonder if captain viridian will actually play like he does in VVVVVV
#14 Posted by Meltac (2009 posts) -

Or.. the ball could also be Gumboy, which then would be the one that dashes?

I would imagine, but I assume he would have to be given the ability to jump as well. I don't know how I feel about that.

I bet it would be really useful in some spots, but also really frustrating, cause if he can just shoot up and he misses his mark he flies off the map and dies

World of Goo ball, surely? But yeah, would not make sense to have more than a slightly cosmetic change for some of the characters due to the work involved in balancing things. Still wish that they'd managed to get the dude from cave story... Sucks that the dev turned the request down.

Find it weird that Gish won't be there though - wasn't that originally a PC game?

No Tim from Braid makes me sad. Gish too, though I assume the ball'll be a Goo Ball and that they'll function identically.

What if the ball is The Ball?

#26 Posted by Red (5994 posts) -

These characters interest me a whole lot more than the XBLA ones did, but I'm not sure as to how well the game will work without a d-pad.

#27 Posted by Hamst3r (4569 posts) -

I think the ball is this:

The sphere from Within A Deep Forest, A downloadable indie game by Nifflas.

Well, Meat Boy was a flash game on Newgrounds before it became Super Meat Boy and a retail game.

Also, I'll be incredibly surprised if they don't have gamepad support.
#29 Posted by LordAndrew (14430 posts) -
@ajamafalous: It will.

Now this would make my day.  I also kinda wish they also added Knytt from Knytt stories, but would be stoked if it was at least that sphere guy.  Forgot his name.  Love Nifflas work.

It's a Jigglypuff seen from above.

@drag:  doesn't tim run as fast as meat boy?
#33 Posted by BionicMonster (1032 posts) -

I'm thinking that the circle is actually Gumboy.

I was just gonna post this. Word up, man. I'm glad I'm not the only guy who's played Gravity Bone and Within A Deep Forest.

Get yourself a gamepad.. about 4 € for a crappy one with a d-pad over here. Of course you can also use a PS3 or 360 gamepad, if you've got one of these.
#36 Posted by BionicMonster (1032 posts) -
@Forcen: Gumboy changes form and he is completely round.

You can use a wired 360 controller. Or theoretically any gamepad you can connect to your PC.

Woo, Machinarium robot! What's his name? I'm gonna say Andrew.

#39 Posted by Kyelb22 (294 posts) -
@ShiftyMagician: I was about to post that, but you beat me to it.
That would be awesome if it did turn out to be him. I loved Kyntt Stories.

There a good chance this'll be cheap for the Christmas sale?  >.>

I doubt it. When talking about why they did the $10 rising to $15 thing on XBLA Team Meat said that they did it because they originally wanted to do a big sale at Christmas, but they decided it would screw over all of the early adopters who paid full price just months before, so they decided to do the $10 sale on launch. They have said that it will be on sale for preorder on PC to be fair, but they haven't specified price, but it's pretty safe to assume that it will be $10 for preorder rising to $15 at launch. But assuming they keep to their "don't screw over early purchasers" ideology, it won't be on sale at Christmas.

According to the Steam Store Page for the game, a Head Crab will be a Steam-exclusive playable character.

A Goo makes the most sense because I believe that perfectly fits the vital role that gish played.  I love how Minecraft, VVVVVV, and Machinarium are represented.  And yes there is a Steam-exclusive headcrab you can play as which is most likely that thing to the right of Josef from Machinarium.

So the first question mark thing is a headcrab?

Yep, the Head Crab is coming.

Awesome right? Apparently if you preorder off anywhere other than steam, you get a Goo Ball from World of Goo instead of the Headcrab. Sucks that we have to choose but still, totally understand why that would be the case and it's still great regardless.
#48 Edited by Forcen (1856 posts) -

Sweet! Headcrabs!

@KaosAngel

Also, the Steam version will have a 33% sale in the beginning

Those of you wondering, the Steam version of Super Meat Boy's official release date is Nov. 30th (as you can see from the countdown above) and be priced at $15... BUT!

As a gift to fans we will be taking preorders on Steam starting the 23rd at 33% off ($10). So much like our XBLA release SMB fans will get a early buy discount.

also, this quote was pretty good.

We LOVE Steam...like...a lot. MS is the hot chick you hook up with, Steam is the girl you spend your life with

Also, the Goo ball will be in place of the headcrab on Non-steam PC/Mac versions.

So, that's two of the question marks down. What are the last two supposed to be?
#49 Posted by NekuSakuraba (7184 posts) -

Is there a way to get both Goo and Headcrab? D:

#50 Posted by MikkaQ (10344 posts) -

I'm thinking the ball is from World of Goo, but that's all I can guess from the outlines.
