Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Review

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for the XBOX Live Arcade is exactly what it sounds like. Its a Remix (Remake) of Super Street Fighter II Turbo in HD. I believe you can turn off the HD models for the characters, but I wouldn't recommend it. This is another game in the very successful franchise with some added twists.

The graphics look great. You're going to see levels and characters redone to their HD equivalent. I don't really remember seeing that much movement and action in the backgrounds, but they look great and they don't lag down the action.

The sounds are those that you have grown up with, if you played Street Fighter. You have some character exaggerated sounds, and you have the very decisive announcer, who in my case has told me on may occasions that "You Lose".

The controls are the twist to the game. You can either play with the original controls which should be fine to play with if you've kept up with your Street Fighter, or you can play with the Remixed controls. The Remixed controls try to make the moves more streamlined so that they can be executed easier and so that you can see more action than just regular kicks and punches.

The gameplay is really simple, you're going to choose a character, that you will use to fight, and then you will randomly have an opponent selected for you. Now of course there are different difficulty settings, so those who have played a lot can get some challenge, and those who haven't really played much (*cough, cough* me) can make an easier time. The strange thing is that I don't think that the difficulties work as designed. I played on Easy and recieved several thrashings (i.e. never made it out of the first match), but then I tried it on Expert and actually started to win. There's also an online feature. The only way I was able to fight was by finding a random match. There wasn't any lag during the match, it seemed really solid.

This is a game that you need to pick up if you love the series, or if you just want a good solid, good looking, fighting game. One other really good thing about the game is that you can see the move lists by pausing during the game, which will save you if used correctly. This game gets an 8.3 out of 10.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix (hereafter referred to as HDR) is Capcom's revisiting of one of the most balanced, most played, and most long lasting fighting games ever created. Fourteen years of tournament play and 4 previous arcade iterations have lead up to this latest version of the original SF2. That's a lot of testing, balancing, and fireballs. Capcom has succeeded in their goal to make every match up in the game more fair, more interesting, and more likely to be won or lost on the ...

An oldie, but a goodie... 0

For anyone over the age of 25 this is really nothing new... This is essentially another version of a game which is over 20 years old. Now you might be thinking at this point - why on earth have Capcom resurrected this? Surely there's been some improvement in the fighting genre over the past two decades!? Well, no, not definately. The fact is there is only a limited amount of complexity you want in a fighting game, and possibly only a certain 'type' of complexity too. The main compet...
