God Save the Combo ~ Evil Ryu Manifesto

(I spelt Manifesto wrong in the title, I'm such a doof) All combos are performed unassisted, all recording and editing was done by myself. Music at the bottom. All on-screen inputs assume that your character is on the left side of the screen. The Google Spreadsheet is available here if millions of tiny rectangles are your thing. Check out the video below or via this link, and as always -- you can spot my youtube channel for a couple views to see if my videos are for you.

Aftermath

The Combo titles are a little free form and humorous, though most of them have a basis on the combo itself, if you squint hard enough with your brain, you can probably figure out the vauge descriptions of the combos. A good example is "Goldilocks Syndrome" (The Medium Kick version being the "Juuuust Right" version of the axe kick).

I will note that these combos are for the most part no-frills, no-fluff, damage dealers. That means that I don't put long-winded flashy combos on display, notably ones that consist of extra hits and meter usage where it's redundant. I don't start the combos with a hit-confirm (though obviously in real match situations you would), and I don't cheat the damage/stun ratings by starting them with a jump-in attack (and you'll more than likely be doing those too). The combos are function over style, let the presentation of the video be what styles on you. Have a good one, hope you enjoy the video!

Silky Smooth Hado

I figure since I have a couple other quick pieces of the "Evil Ryu Manifesto", whether it'll be part of some big series or some random videos for Evil Ryu...I'll post them here. In this video I go over the kara ranges for his throw, mashing short into a hit-confirm combo, and tons of wake-up shenanigans from lk tatsu!

My Fists Bleed Jazz

Setups expand on the double lk tatsu cross-up, by introducing corner only resets (and sweep!) on several characters. Then I go over kara demons in general, and then bring back an old favorite in the itbashi slayer, this version 2.0 (the lk axe edition).

Not only was this educational, it was pretty entertaining. Made me try out Evil Ryu for the first time and I must say, he's a pretty damn fun character to use.

WTF? I didn't know he had these juggles. Great video.

#7 Posted by lordofultima (6285 posts) -

Thanks guys, tons of work over the last week for this video, 45 actual editing hours vs. 10 minutes of video, I'd say it was worth it! lol

#8 Posted by Jeffsekai (7053 posts) -

@lordofultima: I'll have to ask Mihai if this is a good combo video.

nice to see you back to SSF4 :D

#9 Posted by Do_The_Manta_Ray (743 posts) -

Heey, that's actually quite informative. I'm more of a MK player myself, though I reserve a deal of respect for SF players. Videos like these that actually make me want to get into the game.

While on the topic of the video, fantastically well-edited, mate. I'm highly impressed, not just with the aesthetic portion, but how you managed to so masterfully convey the actual imputs while making it a pleasure to look upon. Damn nice work, mate.

And on a side-note, you're mostly getting these compliments because of the genuinely wonderful choice of music. Absolutely beautiful like everything Catherine related. Any chance you'd know where I can get the soundtrack? I'd really appreciate it.

#10 Posted by lordofultima (6285 posts) -

@Do_The_Manta_Ray: The soundtrack came with the game. I have the Japanese version so I actually had to translate those song titles to figure out the classical piece they were referencing in said songs! lol

Nice video. Love the information on the overlays.

It's good to see someone actually taking some time to produce their combo/tutorial videos. We need to move past the days of cellphone camera to the TV. The extra effort really shows, and the video looks totally bitchin aesthetically.

This video is absolutely incredible. Most polished combo video I have seen.

Great work.

Still says private for me. I'll check it later. Sure it'll be good.

@MideonNViscera: Yeah sorry bout that, but I have to eliminate the bad seed before it spreads. Social media picks up on stuff real fast and when my video is out there everywhere not in it's tip-top form, while still good...it's not good enough! Please be patient, should be up within 40 minutes or so.

Double post, but the video is now back up, in full audio synced glory! WOOOO

#17 Posted by MideonNViscera (2252 posts) -

Checked it out, sweet vid. I like how you show all the different links for the moves and not just the most damaging/flashy. It's also nice to see some E. Ryu. He doesn't seem to be a very popular character, which is kinda surprising. Must be the health.

Anyway, clearly a lot of work goes into a video like that, and it shows, and it pays off too. I was already following you on YouTube anyway thanks to Akuma 101, but this would have got me to if not.

Mutiny I guess, They dropped me. It's a relief not having any site responsibilities, but not being able to edit peoples posts to say funny things...that I'm upset about.

Like I said before, Good shit. As to your YouTube response, yes, I still use Honda. Here is to hoping he doesn't to raped with nerfs again in AE12.

#22 Posted by lordofultima (6285 posts) -

@JJOR64: lol man I still play honda and think he does a bunch of damage, but yeah here's hoping they buff everyone but hong kong.

Heresy! I picked up the Japanese copy of the game, myself whilst I was ransacking stores and corrupting young Japanese women of their virtue earlier this year, with no sound-track in sight. Haha, well, some people are just lucky, I guess. It really is a wonderful soundtrack, though, among the best I've seen in years. As for the translation, tell me about it. Had to do the same thing, only difference being I had to translate train-stations in Tokyo. At least it lent me the opportunity to see a lot of the city, especially parts I hadn't even planned on visiting.

@lordofultima: Don't hate on Hong Kong! Dan lives there!

@lordofultima: I was about to ream you so damn hard for misspelling 'manifeso', but you acknowledged that in your OP.

And yeah, cool video. Evil Ryu is certainly unique, albeit with a lot of redundancies in the mix.

Updated the OP with my two Evil Ryu shorts I created the days after the combo video, Showing some nifty kara throw/demon tricks, as well as wake-up shenanigans with cross-over lk tatsu.
