I'm not good due to a lack of practice but I would love to learn. Is there any hope for me? and do I really need a fight stick?

Its never to late to begin as long as your prepared for the inevitable ass beating your going to receive, heh.  I played SFII to death but I never understood even the most basic concept of what a combo was.  Didn't get that idea down until Killer Instinct.  I'm a button smasher and I can still have fun and hopefully I'll eventually get a good grasp on timing.  As for the stick, there are plenty of pad warriors on here and other forums but almost anyone will tell you some characters can only be played well with a fightstick.  Just get the game and if you get serious get a stick or just buy a fightpad which moves the buttons off of the shoulders down to create a Light, Medium, and Fierce line-up for kicks and punches.

P.S. I don't know which characters are better with a stick vs. pad so don't grill me on that, lol.

@Zombieheadbutt: Thanks, I have been playing HD remix and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. I'll check SSF4 out with one of the Street Fighter branded controller things. (I will cost about as much as other $60 games.)

Street Fighter 2 sucks.  I tried judging SF4 based on my experience with that and holy shit was I wrong.  So much stuff has been added and refined since those days that it's a different game.

Yes, you should.  SSFIV is a lot easier to get into then SF2.

I'm terrible at SFII, but I'm fairly good at SFIV. I've played almost every fighting game ever made and I can say SFIV is much easier to get into than II, despite IV having more stuff.

As someone who struggled with HD remix, I can tell you that SSFIV is a lot easier to get into. It's not quite as fast, nor are the button imputs as difficult. Of course, you still have to be willing to lose. A ton.

It's actually weird that I do somewhat well in SF4, but when I go back to playing SFII, I usually lose immediately to the computer especially SFII's Blanka lol!  I don't even remember how difficult Blanka was in SFII.
