Identify your worst general Super Street Fighter IV gameplay habits.

Mine are:
-Mashing option select tech. I eat at least 2 more combos then I should.
-Jumping in on good players. I'm a scrub.
-Being unable to identify my own patterns. I often get whiff punished.

#2 Posted by Jeffsekai (7042 posts) -

-Always hitting a button
-Jumping
-Turtling

#3 Posted by Damian (1538 posts) -

All of the above, really. Accept for turtling. I'm too aggressive if anything.

#4 Posted by gosukiller (2324 posts) -

When I can finish off an opponent with chip damage, I often go all out and take risks jumping in and stuff, often eating a desperate (wake up) ultra.

#5 Posted by JokerClown88 (1051 posts) -

I'm too aggressive.  Rarely will I think about attacking.  I'll just do it.

#6 Posted by SpecialBuddy (1112 posts) -

Playing shitty characters.

#7 Posted by jaycee13 (523 posts) -

c.mk > hp.shouken when opponent is obviously blocking.

#8 Posted by ricetopher (1046 posts) -

If I win the first round of a fight fairly easy I get overconfident and get destroyed the next round.

#9 Posted by JJOR64 (19017 posts) -

As a Honda player, I jump too much I think and don't do HHS as much as I need to.

#10 Posted by BabyChooChoo (4628 posts) -

Jumping at the stupidest moments. Case in point:

"Oh...look. Ryu/Ken/Sagat/Akuma/anyone who can f me up as I come down is just sitting there. Guess I should jump right onto their face even if I am using Abel."

~2 seconds later~

"Oh God...that was...that was just not smart"

-holding neutral jump while someones comboing me
-not hit confirming ex lightning legs after cr lk x 2
-random buffalo headbutts

Sucking in general.

#13 Posted by CL60 (16906 posts) -

People always uppercut my stretchy arms but I always keep trying the same thing over and over.

We share the same habit! Maybe we could go in together to the Sucky-SSFIV players anonymous group. 8D

If I'm playing Endless mode with people and I tend to always try and make the fight really close to the wire. So if I'm ahead on some life I'll not put as much effort in and start trying combos I've never tried before. This usualy loosing me the game. I don't think it's a bad habbit though, maybe it's bad if all I care about is the win, but I don't. It's all for fun.

Another one is doing crouching jabs against someone as a block string and they simply throw me out of it. It sucks. I should always start a hit confirm/blockstring with a crouch tech to make sure I don't just get thrown right away.

#19 Posted by Plasma (931 posts) -

I learn block-strings but still always end them with a SRK regardless of whether they are blocking xD

I just think, "Oh god he might be mashing, end this block-string, oh dear up I go, hmm tasty ultra".

#20 Posted by HitmanAgent47 (8576 posts) -

-unable to press the top left shoulder button doing a ha do ken

-unable to fight facing left like a sho ryu ken.

#21 Posted by demontium (4710 posts) -

- Crossing up on every damn wakeup
- Mashin tech OS
- Dropping combos
- Too much other stuff

#22 Posted by dieguy (108 posts) -

I always walk up to my opponents when they have low health and eat a wake-up ultra, losing because of it. Also I play half of the entire cast and end up sucking with all of them =( .

this happens a lot with me, too.
#24 Posted by KamikazeCaterpillar (1179 posts) -

Relying on the all punch/kick buttons instead of pushing all three kick or punch buttons.

#25 Posted by Gabriel (4067 posts) -

Breaking Controllers, unable to do Ultra's and super moves on left side of screen.

#26 Posted by YetiAntics (1490 posts) -

Inadvertently doing a 2nd QCF once I "Cannon Spike" to initiate a random Super when I have a full meter...

#27 Posted by lilbigsupermario (842 posts) -

- wakeup shoryuken
- wakeup ultra
- not doing a counter throw when my opponent is obviously attempting to throw me
- thinking that i have a full EX meter, but instead, i was looking at my opponent's EX meter :(
- going into rage after every loss... >:(

I do this in every freak'n match.
#29 Posted by StaticFalconar (4849 posts) -

Not playing enough,

Messing around too much with other characters instead of working on a main.

Challenging and accepting challenges from folks that have a main and play more than me expecting I can actually hold my own.

#30 Posted by Stang (4726 posts) -

I kara throw too much, especially against mash happy shotos.

#31 Posted by Killroycantkill (1415 posts) -
  • Never tech-ing grabs after block strings.
  • Never tech-ing grabs in general unless they can be seen coming from a billion miles away.
  • Using Abel's roll too much. His dash is much better and the roll can be grabbed and has recovery.
  • Going for cross-ups too much since it's one way I know to land a B&B combo consistantly.
  • Not thinking things through when I'm frustrated.
#32 Posted by thegoldencat7 (1497 posts) -

When I was still playing I continued to use random select even when it became clear that I couldn't get away with it anymore.

#33 Posted by ONE_EYE_JACKED (41 posts) -

I just love Guile's backbreaking air throw but it doesn't work too well because I suck at anticipating jumps

#34 Posted by GetEveryone (4455 posts) -

- I cross-up too often.

- Becoming repetetive when I'm struggling.

- I fucking love cross-ups.

When i'm not playing i can't think of any, but, I know i have alot of bad habits i need to stop

#37 Posted by MarceloAbans (139 posts) -

 Mine are:
Eating Wake up Ultras
Missing my Ultra Window and sweeping
Letting in free jump-ins

#38 Edited by skrutop (3615 posts) -
  • Wake up Jaguar Avalanche.  I fucking hate myself whenever I do it.
  • Misjudging chip damage, especially Rising Jaguar.
  • Misjudging the range on EX Jaguar Tooth, Ultra 2.
#39 Posted by Tornac (134 posts) -

Bad habits? Either playing against what seems like a dozen pros in a row, or a dozen amateurs in a row. It may not be something I do intentionally, but it sure seems to happen a lot so I'm calling it a habit.

#40 Posted by foxhound421 (78 posts) -

i don't know what this is classified as, but i can do all sorts of crazy shit in Training Mode, that i never seem to pull off online. i guess it's a mental thing.

i also had to quit playing shoto characters because i could. not. stop. jumping. in.

and if i get nervous, i try to Ultra at the worst time possible and always end up whiffing it at full screen distance.

#41 Posted by TaccyP (307 posts) -

I don't know if it's technically a bad "habit" but whenever I don't have the life lead I get all spazzy and lose my cool. I guess you could say it's easy to mentally guard break me.

#42 Posted by FalconCritical (224 posts) -

I dislike my gamepad.... well okay gamepads in general.  So many times when trying to jump forwards or backwards I just go straight up and get owned like a foo.  I don't play enough SSF4 to warrant getting an arcade stick so just have to put up with my deathwish jumping.

#43 Posted by Yasawas (6 posts) -

Learning Dhalsim at the moment and he's so different to characters I'm comfortable with that he requires a total mental shift I just don't have down yet. The main ones are:

1 - I don't AA enough. He has the awesome HK Knee of Justice and B+MP is great too, I just forget they're there half the time.
2 - I get this incredible urge to throw after someone's tried to cross me up, maybe related to Sim not really having any jabs or pokes that come out quick enough to push people back with. Many, many SRKs and random ultras eaten.
3 - Applies to me with every character, but even after hundreds of hours I'm still really ignorant of when I'm doing something that can be easily punished by a wake-up ultra. The number of times I'll put out a fireball to catch a guy on wake-up just to give him something to block and be on the end of Abel's U1 or something similar - ugh.

#44 Posted by Alex_Murphy (1184 posts) -

I don't know if I'd really call this a habit, but sometimes if I'm getting beat down bad, and my life is droppng fast, I'll loose my cool and do a wake-up ultra. Sometimes it'll work if the other guy is really going in for the kill, but more often than not they'll block it, or I'll whiff the move completely. Either way I end up getting finished of, and it's quite embarrassing to do Zangief's ultra grab when the guy is on the other side of the screen.

#45 Posted by AriKagura (6 posts) -

I jump a lot ... a bad habit I picked up when playing FPS games back in the day.  Although, I find myself jumping less and when I do downward attacks, like Juri's dive kick, I do it when jumping backwards or upwards, but rarely forwards.

Maybe I should try dashing or cancels.

Jumping in, random EX and hitting wrong input.

#49 Posted by TheLegendofLuke (563 posts) -

I don't know why but when I get my ultra/super I tend to get lost and just try to do them than trying to win the game.

I do something similar.
I'll usually wait for a good opportunity for the Ultra/Super, but if I mess up the command I'll keep trying to do it until it comes out. And it usually comes out at the worst time  X__X
