A staple in modern shooters. They hide, crawl, creep, climb and jump, and are usually pretty weak but hard to hit.
Extraterrestrials appear in many video games in a variety of styles. Sometimes they're evil, sometimes they're benevolent, and sometimes they're very similar to humans.
Not all bosses can handle the player by themselves. Many use waves of lesser enemies to fight for them while they rest, and some even let these minions do all the work.
Enemies that arrive at the surface from underground. Often this is used as a method of taking the player by surprise.
A large aggressive creature that will attack anyone on sight. They are prevalent across the mountain ranges Vvardenfell.
An advanced zerg flyer in StarCraft II that specializes in anti-air attacking. They use a corruption ability that disables an enemy building from producing anything.
Grunts are part of the Covenant Army. Due to their sheer number and low standing, they are often used as cannon fodder.
Enemies who don't fight fair or flee when they're running low on health. Examples include Boos from Super Mario and those pesky goblins from Dark Messiah.
Crowd control is the art of whittling down large groups of attacking enemies via the constant reassessment of the greatest threat to the player; achieved by constant player movement, and adjusting the aim to the closest threat, then quickly moving on to the next greatest threat, and so forth.
An objective where players have to ward off enemies for a set duration.
Carefully exploring a large, labyrinthine area full of enemies (i.e., a dungeon) in the hopes of finding treasure, leveling up, or completing a specific task. Having their roots in tabletop games, video game dungeon crawls are found almost exclusively in RPGs.
The Basis of the Flood. It creates more combat and carrier forms as well as just food.
Enemies that prefer to keep a distance to the ground, and swoop down occasionally to do some damage.
Who loves you and who do you love?
Spider-like parasitic animals from an unknown universe with amazing powers of genetic transformation. Introduced in the original Half-Life, headcrabs come in several varieties, all of which are incredibly dangerous to unsuspecting or unprepared humans.
A snake-like projectile using Zerg unit from the StarCraft series. It can evolve into a Lurker in the expansion Brood Wars.
The insects have stolen our crops! Are you a bad enough dude to commit insecticide?
Insect-like creatures that burrow deep underground, often found in mines.
The basic Zerg flyer unit from the StarCraft series. Infamously known for harassing ground units with their "bouncing" projectile attack.
Necromorphs are the enemies in the Dead Space franchise. The Necromorph infection uses deceased bodies as hosts and forms hideously mutated shapes to adapt to more effective killing styles. Originally encountered on deep-space mining colony Aegis VII, it is believed that the infection originated from the Red Marker.
A rush can be one of two things; in real-time or turn-based strategy it's pumping many units out quickly. In team-based shooters it is running across the map as soon as possible.
A tektite is a one-eyed, four legged hopping enemy from the Legend of Zelda series. It has been in every Zelda game so far excluding The Wind Waker.
A savage, animalistic alien Swarm that seeks out other species in the universe, intending to absorb the useful and exterminate the unworthy.
A small and weak but fast and relentless starting unit in the Zerg race from the StarCraft series. Very effective in packs.
Zombies, more accurately called the walking dead, are reanimated corpses who feed on the living, and have become a ubiquitous video game enemy. They often move slowly, but can be deadly in large numbers, which is unfortunately how they tend to travel. Shotgun time!
