I remember playing a demo of this as a kid. I remember having a real hard time with it and not completing the demo.

It holds up, besides the not-modern default controls. Just did the training and first mission right now. I'd like to see the boys do something with this. At least a @drewbert UPF segment if he's into it.

I had a lot of fun playing both single player and online co-op in SWAT 4 back when.

I mean, it's no SWAT 3, but it's good.

I never played SWAT 4 because I didn't play many PC games growing up. Always heard how great SWAT 4 was, assumed it was a low budget RB6. Bought SWAT 4 today, I fucking love SWAT 4.

Oh man. When I signed up for the good old games beta, this was the game I had in mind. After 9 years, this is damn near cathartic.

Man, I remember seeing SWAT 4 on a local games-themed television show and thought it looked like the coolest thing in the world. I hope this holds up for people who haven't played it before.

SWAT 4 is the shit. I've beaten this game in co-op through generations of my circles of friends. It's just a fantastic game to group up and try some dysfunctional teamwork. Anyone should give this game a shot!

I used to play this co-op back in the day. It was hard but when everything went right and you managed to resque all hostages with no lethal takedowns and no injuries it felt really satisfying. It is probably the most realistic FPS I've played.

I've always heard this game referred to in hushed tones. Definitely seems like something I'll pick up when it's on sale.

So what's the best way to play this co-op with known friends? Hamachi?

How does the GOG version handle online play? I'd love to try and assemble my team from when it came out to give it another spin.

have they done anything regarding the resolutions as i have the cd version of this and im sure it only goes up to 1600x1200

I bought SWAT 4 Gold out of a Bargain bin about 8 years ago. Blew my teenage mind - an FPS that required you to stop, think and plan? Has the same attention to detail that Thief: The Dark Project has (Irrational Games are former Looking Glass staff anyway) and forces you into situations where you have to adapt and change your playstyle. I still have the box sitting here.

I can't believe it got brought back. Bought it instantly and I can't wait to play it all over again. Man that game fell into limbo hard - copies of it were going for $90 bucks for a while on Ebay...

@m4r71n2012: you can edit swat4.ini, just open it and look for 'FullscreenViewport" X and Y. After you put in the custom resolution, save and exit, theb change swat4.ini to read only (right click, properties).

You'll get an error message when you open and close the game, but it'll keep the setting. I'm running 2560x1440 with no issues.

Man, this looks pretty good. It's reminding me of all the great Rainbow Six games from back in the day that I was way into.

Also, the "pup" title is hilariously perfect given an earlier entry in the SWAT series, which also made for one of the great GB videos of all-time:

Man, I'm having a lot of issues downloading this on GOG Galaxy, keeps getting stuck, first at 0%, after restarting it's been siting at 99% for two hours instead. Edit: Just after posting that it finally finished!

anyone know how to get Swat 4 into 2560 x 1440p, no real modern resolutions are natively supported.

Everything you need to know to add a widescreen resolution to SWAT4:

1: Start the game up, make the changes to controls, mouse sense etc that you'd like. Save and quit.

2: Find the Swat4.ini file and follow the link's description of what to edit. Remember the last step of setting the file to Read Only in the Swat4.ini file's properties, or SWAT4 might reset your changes next time you start the game. Now start the game up again. Play. Remember that you might have to actually be in a mission to see the effect of widescreen properly.

If you can't see Swat4.ini it might be hidden in Windows 10. You can show hidden files by opening your File Explorer in windows, go to View tab at the top, and toggle on Hidden items. It is shown as a Swat4 configuration settings file (it has a cog symbol).

SWAT 4 on UPF please, just played the game for a bit to test it out on Windows 10, it works great. It has also aged incredibly well
