How does the game look/feel on the PC? How configurable is it? Mouse smoothing? Framerate locked to 30?
Jeff's crazy review makes me want to buy it, but no PC review copies nor demos scare me.
Game » consists of 8 releases. Released Feb 21, 2012
It looks great and handles great. I would say the graphics are like Dues Ex: HR, but with better character models. The mouse/keyboard controls are also much better than DE:HR. I have a GTX 460 and I was locked at 60fps. Keep in mind that the single player is very short. I just beat it. I haven't started the coop yet.
Heads up though the singleplayer is not the focus of syndicate. The coop is absolutely THE focus of the game. It is huge and expansive and amazing.
There isn't any mouse smoothing and I've been running at way more than 30 fps.
The downside is it's not very configurable: aliasing, shadows, v-sync and I think that's it. It does look pretty on the PC though.
@randombattle: That's good to know! I just beat the single-player and really liked it, but it was a little skimpy for $60...
I've only played it for about 10 minutes, but I experienced pretty noticeable input lag (using both KB/M or a 360 controller). I only tried it in campaign mode. Somebody mentioned that they only saw the lag in campaign and it went away in multiplayer. Can't say myself, since I haven't tried it yet. Performance seems pretty good. Getting locked 60fps at 2560x1440 on a GTX580.
im locked at 60fps 1920X1080 (560Ti) the game runs pretty smooth. the only problem i am having is with the Co-Op. it's pretty laggy for me, but it also might be my connection. but when i do get into a game, Co-Op is pretty damn awesome. and the single player isn't bad, but like DX-HR the boss fights suck!
for some reason there's no 1280*1024
and I can't toggle to windowed mode unless I edit the config file manually
also can't bind keys on mouse4 and 5
other than that and the crazy bloom bug discussed on other thread it's ok to me

So bought it - anyone find the text in the personal logs to be unreadable - some sort of blurring effect on the text?
You are definitely not the only one having trouble reading a lot of the text in the game. Not a huge problem in the long run, but definitely troublesome on smaller displays.

Im worried it might be a too narrow fov that is unadjustable and that it lacks gamepad support.
Why would you need gamepad support for a First Person Shooter on a PC?
becase the FOV is too narrow on multiports to sit infront of a monitor?

I actually like there to be support because sometimes I want to sit back and play a game. If it's a real serious FPS like Battlefield 3, I definitely use k/m, but there are a lot of FPS games that I prefer to play with a gamepad. What's wrong with supporting it as long as it's not required?
10 minutes into the QL, I would never run this shitty crap on my PC. It was traumatized by Crysis 2, I'm keeping it clean with good games installed.
We're talking about Crysis 3 here right?
The only jarring thing to me is that the user interface, all the cues and tooltips have been explained to me primarily in the language of an Xbox controller. That has definitely been interrupting to me throughout the first three chapters, beyond the first boss where I'm still familiarizing myself with the game and haven't yet gotten the third Breach-Program yet. That's my only problem with the game.
As for visuals and such. It's great and isn't nearly as heavy as BF3's requirements actually are. The flow of the game seems slightly too fast at times, but I'm still very early on. I love the aesthetic of the game so far since, well, I just like future themes and even enjoyed BF2142 if only because of its setting and look.
Mouse smoothing and control. I honestly haven't noticed any mouse smoothing and it was the first thing I looked for. Unchecked Aim-assist if that means anything to you. I had to reduce my mouse sensitivity by 50% of the default to make it feel 'right' on my system. The FOV is a bit jarring, but I'd expect someone to find some console controls at some point. It hasn't been bad, I suppose, having played console FPS games to deeaaath in the past and just developing a habit for hitting the DART button (Q???) and looking around for orange jerks.
I like it. Haven't coop'd it up yet.
You love it!@AhmadMetallic said:

I got FOV for days.
Care to post where it can be adjusted?
Thanks.

Hey I want to clear up some confusion: Syndicate auto-detected my gamepad, so gave me controller button tooltips instead. lol
So it has gamepad support? That's alright then. Although I still don't think I'll get this for a 6 hour linear fps.
This one's going on my Steam Holiday Sale shopping list.

@SwoxxEither 1. Because they are crazy and perfer the comfort of a less accurate controller over a M+K 2. Their PC is hooked up to a big screen and they play from a couch. In my case both apply.@floodiastus said:

Yup pretty much, mouse and keyboard is the ONLY choice when playing competetive play and heads on MP. But for singleplayer, comfort is everything! :)

Spend all the money on 3 screens and multiple video cards ;)
I had a quick look around in the config file but I couldn't find anything, it would seem the FOV is dynamic based on the aspect ratio.

Yeah, i figured as much, it looked like 3 screens. I do have mutiple video cards, but just the one laptop screen :)
Is it me or is there a really fucked up blur / rgb seperation in menus?
My eyes hurt just looking at that shit ><
EDIT: oh wow fuck this, I'm getting a headache from these fucking blurry menus, i can see how this style choice is fine for a huge TV several meters away from you, but on the PC screen those things are atrocious!
in case you're using one of those SXGA monitors, or just wanna play it in a window
there should be one environment.cfg in C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\Syndicate
open it with notepad and look for these lines, you know what to do
VID_FULLSCREEN
VID_DWIDTH
VID_DHEIGHT

everyone that has framerate lock turn off vsync and it helps the terrible laggy mouse movement.
Ugh - was sure I'd turned that off, was wondering what was up with the mouse sensitivity - nothing seemed to work!
Thanks for the reminder :)
Yeah, runs fine for me. Just make sure to disable VSYNC if you are having issues with laggy mouse movement (like t0y said previously) - only issue I've had.
Well, I've also had one crash (in Co-op)). From 10-15 hours of playing (Campaign + Co-op).
Have had a couple crashes on PC, but I have been playing more then most (co-op). Had a boss not spawn once at the end of a co-op level. Once I respawned without any of my weapons. The menu blur is still bugging me, as is the FoV.
But my biggest complaint is how the online co-op social stuff works. In this day and age we have dozens of games that have very good design for this stuff. So to have a half assed online features in a game that so heavily relies on that for playtime is baffling. You can't simply invite dudes into your Syndicate(clan/guild/whatever) they either need to be in the lobby or in the friends list. You can't friend a dude in the lobby if you are in a clan, only invite to a clan, so if you meet someone cool in game that you want to add to friends then you need to remember their exact name. Too many hoops. No extra loadout slots beyond the first three is a pain. No "ready" flags to see if players are done with their between game management shit, or need to take a leak between levels. No support for simply typing shit out in chat. No way to switch class/loadout in the mission if your team wipes and this is important as a simple thing as a different setup can make a huge difference in a certain area.
Well that sounds like a giant fucking bummer. Above all, these simple game design-type things are what really make me dislike games. But my biggest complaint is how the online co-op social stuff works. This FOV thing is getting to be the number 1 reason PC shooter ports are fucked.
How hard is it to just put it in the fucking menu like Deus Ex HR did? Same for mouse acceleration.
I didn't have any problems with the game. The FOV is pretty stupid and the bloom is almost unbearable at times, but apart from that, solid 60 FPS with everything maxed at 1920x1080. I'm playing with a gamepad because, as Jeff said, I find it easier to press all those buttons at once (firing, moving, breaching, etc.). And if you don't like that someone is playing a PC shooter with a gamepad, fuck you.
But I won't keep playing the game. The plot, man... this bullshit again? Why do I hate to help this certain character, when he/she is as guilty of everything's that happening as the bad guys? That character is a douche, no matter how saintly the game tries to portray him/her.
I'm having a lot of fun with the game. As a PC game it's very limited in terms of settings but I, personally, don't need to tweak every game. The single player moves along naturally so I'm having a hard time putting it down. And some areas are just awesome to play through.
I'm playing on Hard difficulty and I find some moments to be unfair (as in enemy bullet sponges, trial and error situations, sometimes hard noticing when you're taking damage, sometimes hard to notice if you're dealing damage). But overall it's a fun game. I haven't tried co-op yet.
I havent even noticed these FOV issues, but the inability to map the thumb buttons of the mouse (mouse 4&5) is a real bummer. If I could breach with the thumb buttons, then it would be a lot better (I could move while breaching).
The 360 controller is an okay fix, if you can play a fps on it. Though, in coop, I tend to be the worst on my team because of the controller. On the other hand, my team mates dont move while breaching.
