An innovative mixture of shooter and role-playing elements resulting in a stunning game, System Shock.
Gameplay
System Shock is a 1994 first-person shooter-RPG developed by Looking Glass Technologies. The game is set aboard a Citadel Station in the year 2072 where the player assumes the role of a nameless hacker who must stop an evil artificial intelligence named SHODAN from taking over the control of the station. Often tauted as one of the most intelligent games of it's time, System Shock unlike first-person games during that time featured true 3D environments which allowed the player to have a 360-degree rotational view and also enabled the player to perform actions like jump, climb, and crouch. An innovative feature of System Shock was the ability of the player to temporarily enter virtual cybernetic worlds called Cyberspace, where the player moves in a frame 3D world collecting data, fighting viruses and at times even gaining access to unlocking doors in the physical world.Citadel Station
