Tak Fujii has Cancer!
@victoriousfox: Wow. That's one of the more amusing announcements that someone has cancer I've seen. Props to him for having such a great sense of humor during such a difficult moment.
Hopefully they caught it early and he'll beat it.

If that's what he really said, then I agree. Awesome attitude to have.

Yeah, he actually said that in English; so, it's not just a translation. A great attitude.
Not to mention, he even photographed that he got rid of his dreadlocks. It's a striking difference.
Hopefully he has a form of cancer that is highly treatable. He's what, 40 years old? Pretty young for the serious cancers. He probably doesn't have the highly treatable cancers like Hodgkin's or Testicular cancer - they normally occur in people less than 40 years old (although it's still possible he could have that type of cancer). Given that he is Japanese, he is at high risk of gastric cancer - how treatable it is depends on exactly where it is occurring - either on the upper part of the stomach or the lower part, but it generally has a poor prognosis because the symptoms don't manifest until the disease is quite advanced. Still, it is potentially treatable. He could have some non-hodgkin's lymphoma. Those are trickier to treat and some are considered universally fatal (although that's changing). I would be interested to know exactly what tumour type he has, but he may wish to keep that under his hat as to not potentially frighten employees, his family or investors. Quite a few cancer patients don't want their families to know what their prognosis is, to try to keep hope alive and make the last few years a bit happier. I mean, if I was diagnosed with a fatal cancer, like Small Cell Lung Carcinoma, I wouldn't tell my family that I was doomed. I'd put on a brave face, say that the odds were 50/50 and leave it at that. It would help them prepare for my death without necessarily succumbing to despair instantly.
He seems a bit upbeat in his message - he probably has been told that he has a decent chance of a cure. Cancer survival rates are improving all the time. Hopefully he'll make it. We've gotten better at managing the side-effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, so hopefully he won't be too miserable during treatment.
@korolev: Chemo therapy and medical therapies
His twitter feed within the last year had more and more unexpected medical visits which I was hoping he'd sort out and be done with. I'm bummed but glad he knows what it is and is getting treatment. For such a positive presence in gaming I think he deserves that right back tenfold. Tak Fuji, fight it extreeeeemely and win.
Keep pressing XXX YYY on that cancer and they'll be sucked. He's awesome, he'll make it.
