Vesperia vs. Symphonia

#1 Posted by Milkman (17357 posts) -

This is the first Tales game I have played since Symphonia on the GameCube, which I loved and I'm having trouble deciding which one I like better. The games are obviously similar but I think the characters in Symphonia are a bit more memorable than Vesperia. What do you guys think?

If I really liked Vesperia, is Symphonia worth checking out?

Sorry if it's a little off topic.

I haven't played Vesperia outside of the demo yet despite owning it now, but Symphonia is excellent and you should track it down a copy for the GameCube.

I'm really torn. Symphonia had a lot of great characters, like Kratos, Zelos, that guy who fought with just his fists who's name I can't remember. But on the other hand, I thought Yuri was a much better protagonist than Lloyd and I also thought that Duke was a much better villian than Mithos.

Tales of Phantasia is better than both.

Ya just throwin this in, don't mention villains. But...my friend is lending me Symphonia. Tales of Vesperia is my favorite game in my collection because of how amazing the story is. Will the story of Symphonia make me feel as happ/ sad/ confused as Vesperia. Basically I'm looking for an epicness scale if someone could kinda compare the overall feel of thes tories and not the content

Im hoping that Vesperia is a game that I will like almost as much as Symphonia, because I loved symphonia

I'd played Symphonia right after Final Fantasy 10 and it borrowed a LOT story-wise so I liked Vesperia better.  Achievement points didn't hurt the experience....or maybe they did.  That title one is messed the fuck up.

Symphonia has the better characters and setting, and given that the battle systems are essentially the same, I think that that particular difference answers your question.

Vesperia. Symphonia is okay...but theres so much more to Vesperia gameplay wise. The story and characters in Vesperia are much more entertaining/interesting too. Yuri is a badass where as Llyod is...eh. I prefer Luke, Yuri, and Shing.

I prefer Symphonia over Vesperia, but I actually prefer Abyss over both of this.

Vesperia and Symphonia are the only two Tales titles that I've played so far, but the decision between the two is tough. Both games had a great cast of characters, and it's hard to decide between the better protagonist, Llyod or Yuri. The worlds in both games were great as well. Decisions.

I guess I'm dead center between the two then?

If you haven't played either of them, I would give the nod to Vesperia. They're on par with each other in almost every respect, except Vesperia greatly improved the battle system and added cool stuff like leaderboards and achievements. However, I played Symphonia before Vesperia and I enjoyed it more at the time than I think I did with Vesperia. They're both great games though.

I just finished Vesperia and....the story.......huh?

Vesperia's great because of character deveopment, not the main plot.

Vesperia has voiced skits. So save yourself tedious reading and get Vesperia.
