A special attack seen in the Persona series where the entire party will strike all enemies on the field after they've been knocked down.
Attacking an unaware opponent from behind; this often gives the attacker the first strike or some other combat advantage.
Bats, hammers, wrenches, maces, staves, or even brass knuckles. These are weapons intended for blunt trauma rather than cutting or slicing.
Bosses are enemies that fight you at the end of a level or at a significant point in the story.
A non-interactive sequence within a game most often used for plot advancement.
The Dark Hour is a period of time that occurs between midnight and 12:01AM each night in Persona 3. Only a select few are aware of the Dark Hour and able to enter it.
The main line of distinction between victory or failure in video games, death is the process of a biological being ceasing to be alive.
Carefully exploring a large, labyrinthine area full of enemies (i.e., a dungeon) in the hopes of finding treasure, leveling up, or completing a specific task. Having their roots in tabletop games, video game dungeon crawls are found almost exclusively in RPGs.
The last boss you face in a game, usually representing the final climax of the game.
Flashbacks take a player into a flashback sequence. Often playable, but not always.
Enemies in RPGs that are visible on the overworld map and that are engaged in combat when touched. Examples include Earthbound and Paper Mario.
NPCs, enemies, loot, and/or quests change according to the level or stats of the player's character.

The concept of affecting the universe through supernatural methods, breaking the fundamental laws of science.
An opponent that typically appears around the halfway point in a level. Mini-Bosses are more formidable than the average opponent, though normally not as tough as the end-level Boss.
The minimap is a small, simplified version of a larger map. This plays a vital role in many games, especially Real Time Strategy, where it is important to have an overview of the entire map.
Moral dilemmas presented to the player that often have a significant effect on the story or other characters.
Sometimes one playable character just isn't enough.
Everyone else can keel over as much as necessary, but if the party leader falls, it's game over. Sometimes this makes logical sense, like with perma-death battle systems. But more often then not the main character is one Phoenix Down away from a game over.
Manifestations of a person's 'mask' that he or she shows the world. They can also be described as a representation of the control over a character's shadow personality. These entities appear as famous and legendary characters in the world of mythology. Tremendous power hidden within each one.
Random Loot is a popular concept for dungeon crawler and MMO style games. In essence, monsters or objects drop something that is considered valuable to the player with random qualities.
Dungeons that are generated randomly.
Games with randomly (or rather, procedurally) generated environments create new levels from predetermined pieces each time the game is played.
A sacrifice is the act of offering something (item, health, creature, blood, etc.) to a higher power or a greater good. In games, this often guarantees some sort of favor in return.
In Jungian psychology, the Shadow is the hidden side to a human's consciousness that is unrecognized or repressed from disassociation. Creatures that share the namesake and some properties of the concept are monsters and antagonists in the Persona series.
A concept found in the Persona series. After random battles an occasional shuffle time screen will appear where the player can try his or her luck at getting various persona or other bonuses.

A private extracurricular club at Gekkoukan High School. Its members are individuals with the "potential," the ability to keep their consciousness during the Dark Hour, and call forth their Persona. Shuji Ikutsuki acts as their sponsor.
Enemies that are small, deal relatively low damage, and have low health, but make up for it by attacking in large numbers. Examples include Flood infection forms from Halo, Trites from Doom 3, or Crawlers from Resistance: Fall of Man.
