Firstly you should know that I used a classic controller to play this. Using anything less then that is utter foolishness as the game, although still playable, is not nearly as responsive or fun. A GameCube pad is a good 2 choice if this is all you have or for multiplayer but classic or an official fightstick (impossible to get hold of) are what you need.

So the official relaunch of the VS series of games from capcom. It’s an interesting reworking, Limited with the GameCube limitations capcom have totally reworked the play style. Using only 4 buttons, light, mid, hard and partner, the game totally changes the way characters like ryu work. To allow for use of ryu’s classic move set instead of doing a back quarter circle and kick or forward quarter circle and punch you use the same motion as you would for each move before but any button. Still having the ability to pull off supers of verying levels. This system strips away a lot of the basic move set though. Pulling things down to a kinetic fight system, fast and playful none too complicated, but still with depth hidden away in there.

Driving the game further away from pure fighter then even marvel vs. capcom 2.

Matches work in a 2 on 2 formats. You have the ability to gag between fighters on the fly or call one in for a support attack. Also it’s possible to string together 3 or more ultras with good use of the power bars, giving the game much more tactical play then one would at first think.

TvsC is a cartoon come to life. Bright, lively and fun. Characters both instantly recognizable and obscure all come across as very faithful incarnations of those they are based on.         While a lot of the best new character highlights are on the tatsunoko side even capcom manages to pop out a few neat surprises, Frank West and Viewtiful Joe being highlights. The most obscure if only for play style is ironically capcom icon megaman. This megaman based off the legends character and being one of the most surreal to play as in the game. The tatsunoko side’s roster is actually a real highlight for both fans of anime but also those who grew up loving weekend cartoons. Finding myself cooing at the sight of gforce and casshan. All the tatsunoko fighters have striking and different ways to fight bringing more depth and style to the game.

The games online is its biggest and only problematic side. This is totally down to Nintendo and their continued insistence on the friend code system. Matches on wii are still very good. Waiting for a match to turn up takes somewhat longer then on other games consoles but unlike street fighter 4 the game will continue to search until you do find a match, instead of constantly stopping to tell you when it cant find someone. Also the online system is pretty smooth in matches and has an interesting way to rank its players. Splitting them into 3 types of fighter.

This actually giving you an insight into your rivals play style before the match.

This feels in the end more like a love letter to tatsunoko from capcom then a pure fighter or vs. game. But its definitely a wii must have and the reason we are getting marvel and tekken vs. games respectively. So go get it you fool and ill look forward to fighting you online.
