Curious as to how this won't be completely dominated by demomen.
Well 3 people have to be sniper. Duh.
I... don't follow. Don't think I read that part?
Sorry, it's just a joke. Whenever i play TF2 there are always like 3 people on any team i'm on that just have to play sniper, even though the situation doesn't really call for one. Maybe I just have a bias because i don't like sniping, but how useful can a sniper be at helping capture the hill in KOTH harvest?

I'm taking a guess that the mode will only be 6 players and they can only choose one of each of the classes in the video.
I mean, a Pyro's flamethrower wouldn't work against a robot, the Spy is pretty useless when they're fucking robots with presumably heat seeking or laser targetting or some technical shit, and the maps are probably too small to warrant having a Sniper.
To balance it they probably made the maps and mode tailored to specifications of number of players and which classes per level.
Then again hopefully thats just me being crazy and we get 32 player servers
I'm pretty stoked about it. Sometimes you want a nice six-person hoarde brawl with just a handful of your closest friends and smashin' up some robots.
I'm surprised the guys didn't even react in the comic when Saxton Hale straight-up told them Redmond and Blutarch had been murdered.
Sucks that it seems like Spy isn't selectable, but I imagine balancing that would be a bitch considering the bots would either have to play dumb and let you stab them, or know where you are and make you worthless.
Omission of sniper I imagine is due to a good sniper being able to pop heads very fast. Pyro maybe due to air blast maybe fucking up the bots? I dunno.
Regardless, sounds like a lot of fun and a nice change to regular TF2.
I hope it doesn't turn out to be incredibly simplistic like the Halloween bosses.@dudeglove said:
Anyway, latest TF2 comic says the robots will be dropping money or something.
I imagine that is how your paying for your upgrades in between waves.
I'm actually pretty excited about this, I hope it turns out well.
The bots appear to have all the classes. Bot spy AI is hilarious regularly, so should be interesting@Tim_the_Corsair said:

So I hope this scales or isn't too crazy, I kind of want to try this but I've few friends who play TF2, so its going to be 2 or 3 sized groups for me.
It looks fun though, there's just something about TF2 that keeps making me excited for it in the trailers.
TF2 Site has a full list of robot enemies over here. Seems like there will be a load of drones running in as cannon fodder, but backed up by smaller groups of "specialist" robots that mirror the abilities of the Player Classes. They have individual roles, for example there are 2 medic robots, one that only heals and one that only ubers.
Mann vs. Machine is a new co-operative game for Team Fortress 2 that lets you and five friends wage a desperate battle to stop a lethal horde of robots from deploying a bomb in one of Mann Co.’s many strongholds. Take advantage of breaks between waves to upgrade your abilities and weapons. Survive all the waves in any of a variety of missions to earn incredible loot!
The sentry buster looks kinda cool, too.
Essentially a bomb on legs, the Sentry Buster will detect any sentry that’s dealing sustained damage to the Robot Horde, then initiate its deviously complicated protocol: run at the offending sentry and explode. Thanks to a design flaw, it takes the Sentry Buster a couple of seconds to arm itself—giving quick-thinking Engineers a brief opportunity to hustle themselves and their belongings out of range.
I hope they scream endlessly in a Serious Sam kind of way.

If they don't scream endlessly then this hasn't done its job.
@legendlexicon: @dudeglove: I don't doubt that a sniper can be useful. They just take some skill to be effective, kind of like a spy, Also when the point of the game mode is stand on a single point that is the epicenter of the map, a more durable, easily offensive class makes more sense to me, a heavy, demoman, scout, pyro, or soldier. But it is a game, people should have fun and pick snipers if they want, I never really bring up the issue, it's just weird having to push a cart with a team of 3-4 snipers, but no Heavy medic combo.
The comic includes the Pyro, the spy, and the sniper in it so there probably in this new mode too.
@Nottle: Oh I agree. With the huntsman, however, I've been able to capture points, push the cart, and and act like an offensive class easily. Its great.

For a while that was the only way I could be effective as a sniper. It's great that weapons like that can be in the game giving new roles for the class to fulfill. I do try to get better with the rifles when my team is doing well. I don't really know what one is best to use. Also my computer and internet aren't the best, so its kind of hard for me to get headshots, I think I wait to long i should just make the shot when i have it.
@Nottle: I just use the standard sniper rifle for regular sniping. Just aim for their medic, and everyone will be happy besides that medic.
So, Day 2 is out, and it came with another new map.

is the update live!?
I'm sure this thread will make it quite obvious when it is :)
man sorry.. I'm at school eager to get home and play the shit out of this.
haha
Understandable. I probably wouldn't have been on this thread to reply to you if I wasn't feeling a similar eagerness.

God damn you steam!
They must be gettin' absolutely hammered right now.
Sigh...my update has been paused at 27% for almost half of a hour. The STEAM servers must be overloaded with demand.
