Why is there still no updates on Xbox? I know they said they're going to release all the ones for PC, but still no move.

I'm pretty sure that they stopped supporting the Orange Box on 360 since late '07.

This was the last update from valve on it, which was back in april:

The XBox 360 update is still being worked on. If you're wondering what's taking so long, since the content is "done" on the PC already, it's mostly been around fitting it all onto the XBox. The original version of TF2 in the Orange Box was very close to the XBox's memory limit, and all the additional TF2 content we've produced has pushed well beyond it. We've found a couple of nifty ways to get back a bunch of that memory, but it's turned out to be a lot of work, and that's what most of our time is being spent on. In the meantime, we're going to get a code update out to address the server cheating that's going on.

I'd guess that the memory issue is still a big issue, and they are struggling to get past it.

They mean RAM. I assume. Yeah, they must do. They say "The original version of TF2 in the Orange Box was very close to the XBox's memory limit," and an on disk version of TF2 uses no Hard Drive memory, so they must mean RAM.

I'm not so sure if the updates are a good thing anymore... sometimes, I wish I could play Vanilla TF2.

My Xbox 260 uses hamster wheel powered ram.  It's not quite as fast.

I would assume that by the time the update for the 360 comes out, Team Fortress 2 would've made its way onto Xbox Live Arcade. I mean, it'd be rather pointless to put an update out for a game thats probably going to be harder to find on the shelf...

Microsoft wants to charge for the update, but Valve has a pretty stern track record of free content for it's games, especially TF2. The PC community waited 9 freaking years for this game to come out and now their doing fan service. The reason I think I've heard Robin Walker give regarding cost for DLC on 360 is that there were to be achievements for each class and Microsoft doesn't want people to get achievements for free.

I've been playing the PC version since release up until recently and have to mention that they've since removed the requirements for unlocking weapons, meaning that you no longer need to earn certain numbers of achievements to unlock new weapons.  So the 360 version might not see any achievements if the DLC does get released for free because there are currently 245 steam achievements for the game. I don't think Microsoft is going to let that many achievements fly for the proposed $5 I've heard mentioned by the valve PR team, or any amount for that matter.

Valve has also mentioned they've done a lot of work on the code for the 360 version getting it close to optimization. The source engine is really clunky though and it's getting up their in age. Now how many people that still play TF2 on the 260 may be less than the amount that still play on the 360, though I understand the community, as small as it is, is still going strong. Just like TFC is now, 2 years after the release of orange box, 11 years after it's own release.

it might be good if they just rerelease tf2 on a separate disc with all the content as the pc, (unless that would cost too much)

They just updated it this year with class limits and other game options.
