    Overview

Telengard is a dungeon crawling role-playing game developed by Daniel Lawrence. Heavily inspired by Dungeons & Dragons, early versions of the game were titled "DND." The name was evetually changed to Telengard, and the game was ported to the Apple II+, TRS-80, and Atari 800 before being spotted by publisher Avalon Hill at a gaming convention. Avalon Hill licensed the product from Lawrence, which led to its first commercial release on the Commodore 64.

While the game shares many common elements with games of the roguelike genre (permanent death, random encounters, procedurally generated dungeons), early versions of Telengard existed prior to the release of the eponymous Rogue.
