Cool. Might be fun for a month or so.

#2 Posted by coakroach (2386 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

Neat.

No one outside of the RP servers is going to use this political system at all.

EDIT: Finished the video and they didn't really show me any action. I just saw some dudes running around, a couple explosions and a dude stabbing the camera.

Hrm, political system sounds interesting.

Shove it up your bluehole!

I really wish this was free like GW2, looks so much better.

An action MMO? Don't believe you.

Vindictus, although there's no real overworld.
Either way, I've been waiting for this game for a long while now.
#11 Posted by crusader8463 (13075 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

That looks really awesome.

#12 Posted by onimonkii (2314 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

tera looks rad, been on my radar for a while.

good to see it shaping up nicely

#13 Posted by JoeH (197 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

@RLLink: looks interesting, but i run with the definition of an MMO as: A large world where most stuff takes place in, but can have a few little instances, and can have lots of players online at the same time. By that definition, I have yet to find an action MMO, when I do find one I will love it. But I don't see that day coming any time soon.

#14 Posted by JoeH (197 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

@RLLink: Though despite my skepticism about the combat, the political system looks intriguing. Can't wait to hear the specifics.

#15 Posted by Lightdud (52 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

This game isn't doing very well over in Korea. Already gone through it's second server mergers (which is a very bad thing).

Not to mention all the MMOs that are coming out this year and the next, it's got some stiff competition.

#16 Posted by RLLink (363 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago
@JoeH
I actually remember this kind of system from Aika online, but Aika was more like entering this giant war zone between clans to get into power, and then the stuff happens after that(Raising/dropping prices, etc.)
This may or may not be a better way to handle that, I'll just wait until it comes out.
#17 Posted by jozzy (2033 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

Couple of observations:

* I'd say Fallen earth is an action mmo, you actually need to aim your gun

* Really hard to see how the political system can work in reality. Don't think your players would really like being put in jail.

* Graphic-wise it looks generic but nice

So this just means whoever has the most friends will be in charge and will never lose it. Good job fucking up a game before its even out.

#19 Posted by EpicReflex (203 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

This has way more potential than the Old Republic - colour me interested.

No, because if they do something retarded and piss off the whole server then they will get kicked out. Who cares if its the same person as long as they are doing good.

Sooner or later someone will just have enough following and it will end badly. Unless they can limit how long you can stay in office. That could balance it out.

Have you ever played an MMO? No one ever becomes friends with every single person on the server or even close to 10%. They might be friends with the 20 people that post on the realm forums but that's it.

#23 Posted by JoeH (197 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

@The_Laughing_Man: I think having a system where someone can take over a province by have a bunch of guild mates support them is bloody brilliant. So much more interesting than a normal MMO where everything is balanced to hell.

Ive played MMOs where guilds have 100s of people

But my issue is what if they just stay in power and no one else has a fair chance to try to get that spot?
#25 Posted by JoeH (197 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

@The_Laughing_Man: Then it's a fair representation of democracy and the political system that governs most democratic countries. That someone will stay in power till they do something that pisses off their electorate.

About 4 minutes in, the girl with the bow looks like she's humping the air when she shoots. I wonder if male archers are left handed.

#27 Posted by Vexxan (4551 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

Political system sounds cool but I'll stick to waiting for GW2.

#28 Posted by AdMordem (422 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

Man there is enough different here that I will probably get sucked in enough to try the beta or first month. Really influencing the world in a MMO has been overlooked by too many devlopers.

#29 Posted by MisterMouse (3495 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

seems pretty cool, but the politics system doesn't do much for me... but that is just because I am not a fan of politics too much.

#30 Posted by TehJedicake (751 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

I'm definitely going to try this, I'm Xavier :P

#31 Posted by Pop (2261 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

lol another mmo that says it's the first true action mmo xD. It does look really solid I wanted to hear more about the combat system than the politics system :)

#32 Posted by BabyChooChoo (3579 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

I hate political systems in MMOs. They inevitably turn into popularity contests and/or people finding out how to game the system. It just feels like they're adding a feature that doesn't need to exist and in fact seems like it'll do more harm than good. It's like they're forcing the whole 'building a community' aspect of the game onto the players.

There's a reason I don't talk to most of the players I see in MMOs. It's because I don't like most of the players. I don't want anyone in that group of people having any sort of power over my character or my gaming experience just because they're more popular than the next guy i.e. they spam trade chat all day. Just leave me the fuck alone.

Give me a server without this political bullshit please. If the game is that good, it should be able to stand on it's own without it.

Another MMO destined to get a pop the first year then fall into the F2P section where nobody plays it.

Wake me up when a good MMO releases, AKA the next blizzard MMO.

Plastic/generic looking fantasy of Tera vs. hand painted and painstakingly crafted art by some of the best artists in the gaming industry to-date (Daniel Dociu, Kekai Kotaki, Richard Anderson to name a few) of Guild Wars 2?

Not even a competition. :)

#35 Posted by Vager (1645 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

They would need to have a in-depth player commerce system to go with the political one for this to work well. If regular player's don't have an impact on a province besides voting for it's leader. No one would care about the political system besides the people who want to be rulers.

#36 Posted by Cuuniyevo (33 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

This game has BAMs in it. … Really.

I actually think the political system looks cool, so long as there is content available for the people in jail. If they just can't use their characters for a while, that's a horrible idea, but if there are prison 'zones' that you can quest through in order to get out (and learn some new skills along the way), then that could be awesome.

Don't you know that F2P games usually have a higher player base and make more money? Plus, the next big MMO will be Guild Wars 2.
#38 Posted by Bismarck (366 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

Im actually willing to play it. Havent played a mmo since i stopped playing Lineage 2.

#39 Posted by jorbear (2503 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

I still don't quite understand the political system, but it is nonetheless intriguing.

#40 Posted by distortedwon (7 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

I wonder how many things the leaders will be able to do and what  happens when you go to jail.

#41 Posted by sp (6 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

although the game was kind of bad and i never got very into it, i thought aika online's political system was really cool in practice.
your realm leader would be able to send messages to everybody interested in order to coordinate attacks on artifacts that grant realm-wide passive bonuses but are currently owned and being defended by another realm, and such.
if this system has a similar level of power, and ends up being as involved as it appears to be, it could be really cool. TERA is definitely shaping up to be the mmo i play between aion and gw2

F2P is the only kind of MMO I play...

I thought, for a second, they made a whole game based around Tera Patrick.

I am at once both relieved and disappointed.

My wife and I are looking forward to Terra.  I got some hands on time with it at E3 and I have to say it seems like it could be fun.

I really liked it in RFO, and it had nothing at all to do with roleplaying. It can't really be abused since if it does, people will just kick out whoever's in charge and elect who they feel is better.

The funnest aspect was how they were able to make players wanted (which I believe is in Tera as well), where the leader can basically put a bounty on someone's head and everyone can attack them openly. It's probably the most fluid and organic anti-griefer/jerk system I've ever seen in an mmo. And again, if the leader abused it, he simply wouldn't be leader ever again.
#46 Posted by TheHT (8131 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

If Guild Wars 2 comes out first (oh god I hope it comes out soon) this technically won't be the first true action MMO would, it? Wait, wasn't Tabula Rasa an action MMO?

#47 Posted by Hector (3204 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

No one should have all that power...in an MMO.

#48 Posted by paulithon (71 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

that actually sounds kinda crazy.....in theory

wanna see it work though when its out. then I will eat my sombreo

You don't know that, both games aren't out yet. But as for animation wise Tera > GW2. I've never understood the hype behind Guild Wars 2, I mean it looks cool but I don't know the animations in GW 2 seem off somehow, especially walking. And I can't stand silly stuff like that. I would love to see what this game turns out to be, definitely gonna try it out day 1. (same for GW 2)
