Announced for PC and Mac on February 9th, 2015, Terraria: Otherworld was to be a spin-off/sequel to Terraria with a stronger focus on role-playing and strategy, while maintaining the exploration and base building aspects of the original game. A number of in-development concepts and screenshots were shown off, displaying a new art style, new NPCs, a leveling up system, and more.
While the game was originally intended to release in 2015, it was announced on December 26th, 2015 that the game was being pushed back into 2016. The 2016 release window was quietly dropped, and in 2017 it was announced that Engine Software had been removed from the project, and that Pipeworks Studio would be handling development in their stead.
In 2018, Terraria: Otherworld was officially cancelled. The cancellation announcement can be found here.
In 2020, a selection of music composed for Terraria: Otherworld was added to Terraria as of the 1.4.0.1 update, as an easter egg. The music is accessed by generating a world with seed 05162020 (the date the 1.4.0.1 update released), and asking the Party Girl NPC about "Music".
