Think about it. Puzzle Quest took Bejeweled and interconnected it with an RPG. I don't see why it wouldn't work with Tetris as well.
I'll make it myself if that's what it takes to convince everyone! Just give me a few years.
Only if it involved the Russians building the Berlin Wall. You know, with Tetris blocks. No, a better idea would be you playing as MacGyver as he tears down the the Berlin Wall by creating lines. Or not.
I think a Tetris RPG would not be good.
"Fully supported.Alright, see: No one seems to be stoked about my idea (except imsh_pl).
This means i'll have to make the damn game myself, to show ya'll how awesome this idea is. Just you wait!

I see what you're saying, and it's interesting. It would definitely be a challenge to figure out how make it interesting in the ways Puzzle Quest is. But i think it can be done.
There can be more to Tetris than just clearing lines fast. One example: Tetris DS has this mission mode, where it gives you specific goals that need to be completed in order to score. It makes you play differently from normal Tetris.
Oh man I'd love a Puzzle Quest-like Tetris game. I have no idea how such a game would be structured, but I like playing straight Tetris, so even just having some level up mechanic added would make me interested. I don't need an excuse to play Tetris, but any kind of motivator other than score would be great.
Hey guys. guess WHAT???!!! OP's idea is REAL!!! EA Made a game called Tetris RPG, described by someone as "Puzzle and Dragons with Tetris." Only problem: It's released in Japan only, so you'll have to temporarily switch to the Japanese app store to download it. Even then, you probably won't be able to read it. There may be JUST enough English to get what's going on though. Maybe.
But hey, it's real!

I'd play it, but only if each individual block was a complex character with a deep backstory revealed through side-mission mini-games that increase the player's affinity with that block, as well as enabling potential romance.
Oh, and there'd have to be loot.
...
Seriously, though, it's a rad idea. Add RPG elements to anything, and you've almost immediately sold me. I'm such a sucker for that.
