Love this one! The Tex Murphy games were pretty awesome.
Tex Murphy
The Tex Murphy franchise is a series of adventure games produced by Access Software and Big Finish Games. All entries see the player take control of the titular character as he takes on a cases that usually unfold into much more complex schemes.
I Know, Another Kickstarter Project, But...Tex Murphy
Absolutely amazing news. I loved the Tex Murphy games, they were FMV adventures done right. These guys are legit vets with a track record and they've recently gotten back into the industry as a very small development company. Aaron Connors also wrote the script to Amped 3, which is pretty crazy.
I can't wait to support this project and hope there's enough out there like me that feels as strongly about this IP. No publisher will ever fund this game. Kickstarter is making some really outlandish dreams of mind come true, never thought I'd see the day.
Hell yeah! Under a Killing Moon is easily one of my favorite games. Pandora Directive and Overseer weren't quite as good, but they were still enjoyable.

Part of me doesn't want to stay this out loud, but dude. Funcom? Longest Journey? That kickstarter needs to happen, because I don't think we're ever going to get a sequel to Dreamfall without it. C'mon Ragnar -- let's make an adventure game!
Ragnar Tornquist secured a sponsorship from the Norwegian government to make Dreamfall Chapters a while ago, so I don't think it's a lack of money that's holding the project back. Hopefully they'll focus on finishing that once The Secret World ships.

I wish I knew something about Tex Murphy.@SoledadBrother said:Are you listed on the credits if you donate to these projects?
If the reward for your contribution indicates it, yes. Otherwise, probably not.
The rewards are entirely dependent on the person heading the project. A lot of them include being thanked in the credits (or sometimes having an in-game statue, NPC, shrine, name on a wall of something, location, etc). Everything varies from project to project. And, of course, you have to be a bit discerning in what you pledge toward. Double Fine is probably a safe bet (though we'll have to wait a year or so and see how it really turns out). Someone you've never heard of making a little indie game or a small studio? Maybe not a huge risk, but there are no certainties in life - so maybe think twice before pledging $100 or something.
I'm happy to hand over $10 or $15 to almost anyone that strikes my fancy, because the successes will outweigh the failures and at $15 each, it'll be hard to end up on the losing end (think of how many $60 titles you've bought that turned out to be complete shit).
As for credits, I've got my name in a few games. None from Kickstarter, though. The most recent is probably Frozen Synapse (the strategic turn-based tactical shooter). I didn't even know about it until someone asked me why my name was in it, so that was amusing.
Apparently someone started a Kickstarter campaign to buy Kickstarter for nineteen million dollars. For a contribution of $100, the guy promises to personally autograph your Kickstarter.
I've never heard of Tex Murphy before, does that make me a philistine? Well I'm in love anyway, despite our age gap. Here's hoping the Kickstarter trend doesn't dilute and die off too early.

Just nobody give any money to that colossally moronic lottery winner trying to make an MMORPG who has 47 "idea men", and one programmer lined up to help him.
I don't even understand how that guy made it through the Kickstarter vetting process. That guy could have a real chance in gaming, if he used his wealth to found a tiny indie studio and made a handful of little projects until one or two of them hit it big. Start small. Build up a reputation and some games under your belt. Then go big. That he would even consider an MMO (something that can rarely be done on anything but a AAA budget -- and even then usually fails) shows how naive he is.
That said, he's somehow at more than $20,000. Including two $10k pledges (probably himself and a friend/family member he's plending $10k to himself through). Anyway, it's good for a chuckle.

I love that. The best part is, it's not entirely ridiculous. I bet there are a ton of people like myself who would say "it's worth my $10 for a chuckle" and then, next thing you know, so many people thought it was funny enough that he actually wound up being funded. The only downside might be if by his project reaching the point of being successful, Kickstarter was re-valued at a much higher amount, rendering his kickstarter funded - but undoable. :)
Anyway, I'm putting $10 in on that when it goes live. Why not?
@el_tajij: "In the heeeeeeeeatt of the niiiiiiigghhhttt..."
@Branthog: How deep can this meta-kick rabbit hole go I wonder?
"Kickstarter to fund the website to promote our kickstarter to buy Kickstarter.com."
Now you're funding with portals.
Reminds me of my facebook joke "By the time 1,000,000 people join this group I will have forgotten about it." Had maybe 30 people last time I looked. Might have more now, who the hell knows. I forgot about it already...
Umm Yes!Ummmm no
Tex Murphy is AWESOME. I have a mint copy of Overseer under my bed.

And here comes the inevitable avalanche of "me too" kickstarters.
You know that Double Fine weren't the first guys to Kickstart a game right?

I'm afraid of finding out what Lance Boyle looks like today.
EDIT:
HOLY SHIT. HE WAS IN HEAVY RAIN. NO JOKE
I know the Tex Murphy games are actually pretty well received. Hardcore Gaming covered them pretty well, and GOG users like them well enough. But I sure as shit haven't played any, and don't count on doing so any time soon. Still, I'll probably pitch in a few bucks, just to see what happens here.
Btw, it's weird to scroll down to the comment box/bottom of the page and see "Gamespot/Giantbomb/Comic Vine" on the bottom now.
I'm going to Tested and Screened now just to make things right.

OH SHIT.
Tex Murphy seems alright, but I'd be all for a Puppy Rescue Squad game. That looked fucking awesome.
Fuck yes I would like some more FMV. I'd never heard of Tex Murphy before this, but this seems like something I could get behind.
Don't have the money to back another one. I put my dollars behind The Banner Saga. Maybe if I get a job again I will fund a few more, but even that one was a stretch for me.
So wait. There are people who want to go back to FMV adventure games in a non-ironic context? Ok. Sure. Best of luck to them.

Have you played any of the three FMV Tex Murphy games? They were as good as "regular" adventure games. Actually, they were better than most of them.
Very very excited for this. The Tex Murphy series has been one of my favorite gaming experiences ever, with Tex being one of my favorite characters. I'll be kicking in and am hoping for some cool backer rewards :D
Why did I give money to the Wasteland guys and not have enough money to give for a new Tex Murphy game! WHY!?!

WHAT HAPPENED TO GRACE?
I would give a whole paycheck for this, but I think Activision owns it. So... probably not gonna happen.

They were great. Tex Murphy works where others don't, like the ones Vinny and Dave have played on this site, because the writing is pretty good and the games don't take themselves seriously.
Goddamn, I'm going to be pleased as punch if this actually gets made.
The Pandora Directive is one of the best FMV games ever made, without a doubt.
