Maaaaan, I thought we were past this.

C'mon, Nintendo. Remember the good ol' Super Nintendo days? When you just blundered in there and replaced all of the crosses with ankhs, as if that fucking matters. And when you changed a Japanese title like "The Legend of Zelda: The Triforce of the Gods" to the nonsensical "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past", which is nothing but a terrible pun since the game has nothing to do with time travel and there is no titular link to the past, as there is no startling revelation about the backstory or anything.

So yeah, just demand McMillen can release the game as long as he removes all religious references, because we sure don't want to anger those Christian folks! Right? Or wait, better yet: I don't know, Nintendo, don't be so extremely family friendly just this once! It's a great game!

Anyway guys, try not to turn this topic into one giant religion vs. atheism flame war.

That's what makes the game. I don't want to overstate it, but I consider the premise brilliant.

Meh. I respect their decisions. Kudos to them for sticking to their model in the face of cynical hardcore gamers. Nintendo has done you bitter trolls a favor and given you all something to whine about.

I think the real issue is that religious people might go on some crazy crusade against people or a company for something like a video game.

I will be happily summoning Satan, Beelzebub, and Lucifer on my DS in Devil Survivor 2 once I'm able. And that's still only a T-rated game! Shame about this.

Same here.  You don't have to be religious to understand that this game doesn't suit Nintendo's "family" image.

Same here. You don't have to be religious to understand that this game doesn't suit Nintendo's "family" image.

But Nintendo allows M-rated games to be released on their platforms. MadWorld on the Wii, GTA: Chinatown Wars on the DS - neither is a family game. So I guess this means that the eShop/WiiWare is considered a more direct representation of Nintendo than disc-based games? But that still seems preposterous, when most of the content on those services isn't even published by Nintendo, and Nintendo is really just a distributor.

Edit: Upon further examination, I don't think a single M-rated game has ever been released for DSiWare, WiiWare, or the eShop. I didn't check every single game, but I did look up anything whose title wasn't clearly a kid's game or a puzzle game. Now I'm curious whether this is a choice by developers/publishers, or a Nintendo mandate. Interestingly, the PSP Mini version of Hero of Sparta is rated M, but the DSiWare version is rated T.

Shame on Nintendo, they're missing out on a good game. To be honest, this makes some sense. Still, this is ridiculous. C'mon Nintendo. The E-shop could get better with games like this.

Maybe it has nothing to do with religion but more how closely it resembles Legend of Zelda. I never played it, so what do I know. Article reading.

I would very much like to see what a censored version of Binding of Isaac would be like o_o He would have to change the entire premise of the game and remove a whole bunch of enemies and items.

Only in that the room designs and map are pretty much ripped straight from zelda, other than that they're not even close.

That's what I got out of it. Users who start up the eShop are greeted to several displays of the latest releases. If The Binding of Isaac is shown and its details are revealed to the religious-sensitive, then there may be an uproar on how Nintendo is allowing this to be shown on their service. Honestly, it's not really a big deal that they rejected it. There are still other awesome eShop titles that can be played.

And yeah... this is just Nintendo being Nintendo, they're not willing to risk controversy over an Indie game, and I cant say I blame them. People are idiots...

Ehhh, It's not much of an issue. Anyone who has a 3DS has a computer capable of playing The Binding of Isaac. Is censorship bad or whatever? Sure. But there are other, more infuriating things to complain about than a somewhat unnecessary port of a game that has been available for months.

This doesn't bother me. Even with removing the religious references in the game, Binding of Isaac is still pretty messed up. I could easily see a news broadcast taking the premise out of context and make a sensationalist headline out of it. "A new Nintendo video game has you killing your mother!"

I think this game would have actually done something neat with the 3D due to the simplistic design and layout of the game. Oh well, not really surprised it's not coming out on the e-shop. Sucks for those waiting for it. But I highly doubt it would come out on any closed platform.

At first I was a bit upset, I would love to have this game on the go. I just bought it on steam today for my Macbook and its a ton of fun, In a sense I have a portable version. Its just not on the 3DS.
