Would You Play a Smash TV Roguelike With Zelda Dungeons?

The headline says it all, doesn't it?

Even better, it's coming from Edmund McMillen, one half of the two-man development team behind Super Meat Boy. Titled The Blinding of Issac, McMillen revealed details on his blog today, a project he's working on as Team Meat begins putting together whatever's coming after Super Meat Boy.

While the dungeons are imitating the structure established in The Legend of Zelda, the layouts themselves are randomly generated. The game even has a frickin' treasure room with items to buy! The specifics are still being worked out, but there will be at least six worlds/dungeons to fight through, with a minimum of 10 different bosses. And tons and tons of items.

Oh, and Danny Baranowsky of Super Meat Boy, Canabalt and others is doing the soundtrack.

Basically, this sounds awesome.

The game's coming in August sometime through Steam. Just take my money already, won't you?

Well, I guess I'd have to see it in motion to actually get a feel for it.

How the fuck did I get first after slowly reading the whole thing while eating?

The first game was an homage to Super Mario, this one to Zelda, next Metroid?

I don't even... This sounds almost too good to be true. Sold so hard.

#23 Posted by Emilio (3380 posts) -

I'd rather have a new Smash TV... please, Warner Bros., please?

#24 Posted by BjornTheUnicorn (358 posts) -

@morecowbell24: This game is just an Edmund McMillen joint, not something from Team Meat, if that's what you're going at.

Would I? Is the space pope reptilian?!

#26 Posted by beefmotron (13 posts) -

This will be worth it for the soundtrack alone

I believe a 'Fuck Yes' is in order.

I would like to see multiplayer support, because nothing's funnier then having your best friend screw you over in one the hardest games imaginable.

Wow, sounds fucking awesome. Sign me up! And with Baranowsky doing the soundtrack, and I can only assume the music will be amazing as well. Stoked.

Wait, how can something control like Smash TV and still be a roguelike?

Same here. I loved SMB and their soundtrack, but if I had to decide looking at that picture I would say "no". I hope it's good though.

Sounds awesome, can't wait.

Oh, what's that? My favorite game, mixed with my favorite genre, and my favorite childhood series?

WELL HOT DAMN

Although I play almost all of McMillen's games, I never really liked the art style.

#39 Posted by BeachThunder (12410 posts) -

But does it have the Zelda treasure fanfare?

This is what I'm wondering. The inclusion of Smash TV is throwing me off in terms of understanding what this game is.
#42 Posted by BeautifulSpaceCowboy (608 posts) -

Looking forward to it!

Sounds great, just have to hope it is.

#44 Posted by Springfart (360 posts) -

more DannyB music? i just came.

#45 Posted by Hyper_Bunny_Meow (189 posts) -

I'm sold and so glad its coming to steam too.

#46 Posted by SSully (4319 posts) -

Before I read the article I looked at the picture and said, "this has to be a team meat game."

I cant wait to see more of this.

#47 Posted by vonFlampanker (329 posts) -

Not sold on it yet, but the concept sounds interesting. Smash TV worked because it was zoomed out enough to get a stressful amount of enemies on the screen. I'm always encouraged when a project is from a smaller team.

@Mumrik: somethings we just don't understand in life my friend :)

Super pumped, Super Meat Boy is one of my favorite games of all time!

I hate it so much when "Roguelike" is used as a noun.
