Aw yeah bro, fuck that thinking and tactics and shit. let's just hide behind a wall and shoot like a spaz. Online mutiplayer? I bet your sweet ass that'll show up on there.
Fucking 2k. Can't wait for First Person Freedom Force.
The Bureau: XCOM Declassified

A third-person, squad-based, tactical game that recounts humanity's first contact with aliens during the Cold War in the 1960s, and the subsequent founding of the XCOM organization.
2K Marin Developing New XCOM
Hmm. Sounds interesting.
And yes, let's reference a bad Midway game. Because Midway isn't just a hack company or anything :/.
" Could be a turn-based FPS (kinda like Valkyria Chronicles). "When I played VC I thought that it would be a cool way to do an X-COM reboot, too.
This has to be something more than a typical shooter.
Sweet, it's a good thing the market doesn't have any other games like that. Right now, another FPS just seems like more of the same cereal we've been eating for breakfast every day.XCOM combines the strategic core of the groundbreaking franchise with a suspense-filled narrative and distills it into a tense and unique first-person shooter experience.
I was talking with my brother the other day about this very issue. There is absolutely no way that XCOM could come back in its original form, because it layed a groundwork that games have been building on since.
I just cant imagine those mechanics working out (turn based combat, research, upgrade, research, invasion, turn based combat, research, research, research) over and over again. I loved XCOM as a kid and loved how deep you could go in the tech trees. Upgrading your weapons and such, but when you break it down you basically set up research cues, hit the fast forward button, and waited for some aliens to invade. No story, no substance, just a damn good game at its core, that has inspired many aspects of RTS base building even though XCOM has always been turn based.
We figured that the best way to have XCOM is exactly how we have it already, through Steam or keep your old floppys. An iphone port of the 1st two games would be awesome.
And why has everyone left out Terror from the Deep? Enforcer is bad, i agree but Terror is fantastic.
I was excited, then I read that it was to be a first person shooter and my hopes slightly faded away. But let's see what 2K Marin can do.
Umm.... I'm going to pretend like this didn't happen...
*walks away*
@liquidsol:
I feel like most FPS's of the past few years have tasted like the same damn cereal I've eaten every damn day. They keep changing the box with the leprechauns moved all around and shit, but they aint trickin' me none.
Well lets see who cares and who's angry. Xcom fans are angry because their most beloved stratgey game just got turned into and fps. People who didn't play xcom are like. We should be excited ......why? I just get the felling this will let someone down. This could be good or this could ruin peoples lives. I so hope its the latter.
Truly this is the age of reinventing franchises by dumbing them down and pissing on (and off) the fans.
Horrible Idea... While we are at it, why doesn't PopCap just turn Plants vs Zombies into a Tactical Stealth game. It saddens me they piss on the name like this. Didn't they learn anything from Interceptor? Oh well, the new hope is the UFO Extraterrestrials series being developed by Chaos Concepts.
" i'm starting to think that in the future EVERY game will be first person shooter or a Third person shooter "With MMORPG elements like XP and grinding.
X-Com to me was always a combination of things. Base building, resource management, research trees, production queues, troop management, and yes, turn based combat. If they switch the turn based combat part to FPS, whatever. As long everything else is in there and works well, I could live with it.
But I doubt that that's what they're going to do. It's most likely going to be another in a long line of X-Com disappointments. I'll reserve my judgment until we can see what it's all about, but I'm not keeping my hopes up. We X-Com fans have been here before.
I'm sure this is going to be a good game. Bioshock 2 was awesome.
HOWEVER, I won't lie. I am disappointed. Some games are loved for the universe and the fiction in them and can survive a radical change in their game play genre. Fallout comes to mind. Besides Fallout and Fallout 2's gameplay was kind of shit when it was new. RPG as a genre has changes and grown. Other games are loved for their game play and X-Com falls into this catagory. most people really couldn't care less about the fiction of X-com. Marines vs Aliens. Been there, done that. Hopefully since now the world knows there isn't a true X-com game coming, some indie developer will take the core gameplay of X-com and make something amazing with it.
FIRST PERSON SHOOTER? MOTHER FUCKER! I heard 2k had the rights to X-Com and was probably doing something with it I flipped my shit. Now they finally announce it and it's an FPS? Son of a bitch. Every sequel/spiritual successor to X-Com past TFTD had one crucial flaw: It was the wrong genre or it tried to go real time (when TBS worked perfectly). I see that tradition is continuing unabated.
Gentlemen, I present to you... X-Com: Enforcer II
Guess I'm going straight back to UFO:Alien Invasion, or UFO: The Two Sides. Give me a real turn-based tactics game.
I am also not too happy about it being an FPS. Even if it turns out to be an amazing FPS, it won't be what I want. However, I still have hope. The original X-COM could easily be updated and re-released on the arcade before this game is released. There is a bit of history of old popular games being re-made on XBLA before new versions are released. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed.
I'm optimistic.
The X-com universe could make quite the cool setting for a fps.
Then again, I really enjoyed C&C Renegade.
I don't know if anyone remembers X-COM Alliance. It was suppose to be a tactical first person shooter where you had to manage your squad mates' morale as well. Sadly it never came out, but I remember watching this trailer for it on electric playground like 10-12 years ago. I'm not saying I'm all for a fps x-com game, but I was really excited for this game when it was announced so hopefully they can come up with something that's just as cool.

Man, this doesn't make any sense. Attaching the X-Com brand to a first person shooter won't do anything to people who have never heard of the game. At the same time, people who are aware and enjoy the strategy titles won't be thrilled by this, because it bears no resemblance to the game they played - it just uses the name that they once loved. I mean, I'm no professional in this area, and someone must have thought this through and, to give them the benefit of the doubt, we have seen nothing of the game so far, so let's wait. But it sure sounds weird.
And, since we are on the topic, I still won't lose hope of one day seeing a X-Com game with a gameplay that is adapted from the one in Valkyria Chronicles. I think that would work great.
Never has pure, eye-watering joy (OMG X-COM FINALLLLY) turned to enduring despair (FPSWTF) more quickly.
I actually had a box set of some X-com games when I was a kid. Too bad I was way too young to understand them (probably betwwen 2 to 4, when I was playing NES) Don't ask me how I got them, but I can still remember the cover. It had some green hand coming out of something... I think there was three games in the box set. And yeah, with a green hand on the front. Anyone remember this?
