The Cat And The Coup. A unique game I'm glad I tried

With this being my first game review, Im using a mostly unknown, short and interesting game as my first choice, mainly to test the waters of my layout and length of review. I want to make a short review first. Just so see if I have what it takes, and to get any constructive critisism Thank you any potential readers.

The Cat And The Coup. PC - Free

What it is and Why I picked this up

I picked this game up through steam just because of how weird the trailer was and I enjoy a different experience and playing very short but potentially interesting games, also it was free. I like free, free is good.

The best way to describe this game would be to call it 'Interactive Documentary Entertainment' it really is quite unique. With it being a short game I do not want to spoil it by having screenshots in the review but I will post the trailer up for you to have a look at.

    Story

In a somewhat arkward 'explain without spoiling the game' sentence, you play the cat of Mohammed Mossadegh, the democratically elected Iran Prime Minister. You proceed to use the cat as an object to trigger events in the world, which in turn lead to the very methodical but perfectly timed continuation of the story as you go through the main life events of Dr Mossadegh, with frequent text boxes explaining his current social and political position in the world.

The amount of information given on each life even is sufficiant in wetting your appitite to learn more about this facinating period in world history, and plays out like a James Bond short.

    Presentation

This is where the game is completly in its element. The sound design in The Cat And The Coup is beauitiful in its eerieness and its simplicity, adding to the overall feel of the game while not becoming intrusive and overbearing. Again, for the length of the game its a perfect fit.

The art design is also a strong point of this game, it again is almost impossible to categorise and liken to anything i've ever played before and probably will again, it left me with a contrasting opinion of crude and wonderfully strange. As you can see from the trailer, it truley is a unique aspect of The Cat And The Coup.

The game is not intended to have you scratching your head planning your next move in the 15 to 20 minutes it will take you to complete, the level design is simple but effective with easy to solve puzzles providing you with enough interactivity to merit it not just being a movie yet not enough to detract from the story on screen.

    Closing Thoughts

Again, struggling to find a better way to describe this game, The Cat And The Coup truely is a Unique experience which I have no doubt would have a divided fan base should anyone decide to give it a try.

I highly recommend anyone with an interest in the world policitcs and/or social and political history to give 20 minutes of your time to this truley wonderful game experience. You wont be dissapointed and you may just find yourself discovering a game that sticks in your memory a lot longer than you would imagine.

Excels neither at being a documentary nor a game 0

I saw The Cat and the Coup free on Steam and thought it could be interesting, so I downloaded it.  Then today I tried it out, and to my surprise I finished it in about 15 minutes.  It’s more of a very short documentary than a game, and it excels neither at being a documentary nor a game.  I was more interested in it as a game.  The game element of The Cat and the Coup is very simple.  You can make the cat walk left or right and make the cat jump with up or down.  The spacebar makes the cat swat...
