The Caverns of Hammerfest (Originally titled 'Les Cavernes de Hammerfest' in it's native French) follows the adventure of a snowman named Igor, who witnesses the villanious Tuber both put a spell on the fruity residents of Hammerfest and kidnap them. Worst of all, he decides to take Igor's nose! Igor must decend the well and face Tuber to set the fruit free and restore his dignitiy.
A seemingly simple, traditional platformer, Hammerfest starts the player at the mouth a well, which Igor must decend to reach the bottom. Each level is a single screen containing any combination of platforms and enemies and as the game progresses these elements become challenging puzzles the player must quickly solve. If the player takes to long in defeating the enemies or solving the puzzle, a ball of fire will chase Igor, initially slowly, but becoming faster and turning tighter, until either the player escapes the level or is hit by the fireball.
To defeat the numerous enemies in the game, Igor uses several different kinds of bomb that freeze, knock off platforms, or just plain blow up his foes. To change bombs, the player must pass through a colored energy barrier; The current type of bomb Igor is equipped with is reflected by the appropriate colored scarf.
There are some 'Effect' items (description below) that give Igor an offensive capability that differs greatly from the bombs. He can gain such abilities as shooting arrows, fireballs, and a rather large hammer! Enemies dispatched using these particular items will result in the enemies leaving behind diamonds, worth 2000 points, rather then the regular crystals.
In addition to the 100 levels of the main quests there are portals that can be opened that pass into often more difficult levels. Many 'PD's contain rare items, or items that are worth a lot of points.
More modes are available in-game, such as Nightmare mode, Mirror mode, Tornado mode, Unstable Explosive mode, and the challenging Ninjitsu mode.
A flash based platformer produced by French developers, Motion Twin. Guide Igor to the bottom of the well to defeat Tuber, and recover his nose!

One free game per day
Like most games developed by Motion Twin, Hammerfest relies heavily on users purchasing games. However players are given one free game per day. There are items that can be collected in-game that give the player 5, 10, and even 15 free games.Gameplay
White Bomb
Resembling a ball of snow, this is Igor's primary bomb type. After a one second delay, any enemies in close proximity will be temporarily frozen and propelled in the appropriate direction. After enemies have thawed, they will be much more aggressive in their actions. (Note: This default bomb type's scarf color is purple.)Blue Bomb
Blue bombs do not freeze enemies, but will knock them off of their current platform to either a platform below, or to the bottom of the screen. If an enemy is hit by a blue bomb and falls to another platform, they will be temporarily stunned, but will not become aggressive as per the white bombs.Green Bomb
Green bombs can be placed like mines in the path of enemies moving back and forth, with the same effect as the white bomb on contact. Unless you have the appropriate power-ups, another bomb cannot be placed until the previous one has exploded.Red Bomb
Red bombs will both freeze and propel an enemy, but will also launch the ice block - and Igor if he is close enough! - into the air. Used often in puzzle and jumping sections.Black Bomb
The black bomb has a much longer fuse then all the other types, but results in a satisfying explosion that will instantly knock enemies off the screen. Due to the fuse, it can be difficult to hit enemies, so use caution in tight spaces!
Parallel Dimensions
In addition to the 100 levels of the main quests there are portals that can be opened that pass into often more difficult levels. Many 'PD's contain rare items, or items that are worth a lot of points.
Modes
From the main menu five initial game types can be started;Adventure
The staple of Hammerfest's gameplay. In this mode is where the majority of points, items, and quests can be collected. Including the parallel dimensions available, the game provides over 200 levels of platforming.Learning
Learning mode is a simplified version of the main game to allow the player to get used to the controls and the mechanics of the game. Showing off simple principals as using the different types of bombs, jumping, jumping while dropping a bomb to gain height and distance, and so on. Learning mode also introduces the player to the fact that the levels of Hammerfest often contain secrets that players can uncover on their adventure. Players can use the red bombs to propel themselves off the beaten path, and decend outside the practice area, met with humorous messages from the game's creaters, coming to a seeming dead-end at level 20.Time Attack (Must be Unlocked)
In time attack, players must beat special levels in as quick a time as possible, pure and simple. Two Player (Must be Unlocked)
By collecting specific quest items, the player can unlock a mode that allows two people to play through the adventure mode. The game ends, however, when on of the players loses all of their lives, so be careful! Players have access to a new ability when working together; If one player drops a bomb, the other player can then kick it to create a much large bomb, with a much larger radius.Soccerfest
Two players can enjoy a soccer-style game in arenas similar to the levels in the other modes. In addition to kicking the ball, players can check an option to be able to drop and kick the black bombs from the adventure mode. Sending the ball flying, and possibly their opponent!
More modes are available in-game, such as Nightmare mode, Mirror mode, Tornado mode, Unstable Explosive mode, and the challenging Ninjitsu mode.
Item collection
During Igor's adventures, 3 items will appear on every level. One 'effect' item, one 'letter' item, and one 'point' item. Most items are used at some point in progression of the quests, which are detailed in the next section.Effect
Items from this catagory with cause something to happen within the level, be it positive in the case of freezing enemies, making you run faster, or negative such as making you slower, or flipping the whole play area horizontally or vertically. Many 'effect' items will drop extra 'point' items either immediately or once enemies have been removed. For example, the 'Fire Fish' item will cause several red crystals to fall from the top of the screen.Letter
During the adventure, Igor will be able to collect random letters that he will use to try and spell the world 'CRYSTAL'. Upon doing so, all enemies are removed from the play area, and Igor is given an extra life for the remainder of the playthrough. The letters can be collected in different orders, having added benifits of extra points, but this is very difficult to achieve reliably.Point
These items give a specified number of points to the player, ranging from 1 point to several thousand at a time.
Quests
The quest system in Hammerfest is based on simple item collection. As the player completes the initial quests, new items are unlocked, and eventually new abilities.Rankings
Hammerfest rewards higher scoring players by moving them up in the Pyramid leader board every week. The top 50 in tier 4 move to tier 3, the top ten in tier 3 to 2, and the top 2 players in tier 2 will be entered into the hall of fame. The names of those in the hall of fame will appear as characters in the Carrotian Council.| Game Name | The Caverns Of Hammerfest |
