You Won't Be Playing The Darkness II This Year, Either

Posted by patrickklepek (3522 posts) -
Can't really argue with quad wielding, you know?

It's bad news day, apparently.

Following Capcom's cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3 and Sega's decision to push back both Crush 3D and Shinobi for 3Ds, 2K Games announced today The Darkness II will now arrive on February 7, 2012.

That's my birthday, by the way.

The Darkness II had been set to arrive on October 4--no more. 2K Games didn't provide a reason for the delay in the press release, preferring to point people towards the game's Comic-Con presence.

The sequel's in development at Digital Extremes, also developing the video game spin-off of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek. The studio's last major release was Dark Sector, and originally made a name for itself working alongside Epic Games on the Unreal Tournament franchise.

If you happen to be at Comic-Con, though, there will be playable kiosks of The Darkness II.

The rest of us will have to wait.

Dont care. This game looks like shit now. They made nolan north as Jackies voice. Its taken a huge turn into what looks like the generi FPS game.

#7 Posted by familyphotoshoot (653 posts) -

The only good things about the first game were Kirk Acevedo and Mike Patton. At least they got Patton again.

It looked really good but late 2011 is packed with goodness so it doesn't really matter.

I always see a delay as a good thing. More time to work on it makes the final product that much better.

For some reason I read that as Darksiders II. Confusion ensued.

With Mass Effect 3 in January, Final Fantasy XIII-2 in early 2012, Bioshock Infinite and now this for february   2012 is looking like a Deja-vu of 2010 as far as releases go , wich is totally fine by me 2010 had amazing game releases,  I have no problem with these delays

Yeah Jackie's voice really grew on me, bummed the voice actor didn't come back.

WELL HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAWG.

Get the original voice actor back, and GET RID OF THAT STUPID XP GAIN FOR EACH FUCKING KILL FUCK.

Nooo :(

Take-Two is really weird with spreading their games out in different quarters, I bet it has something to do with that. If I remember correctly, they did the exact same shit with Bioshock 2. I mean exactly the same. They delayed it from early October to February.

#19 Posted by FuzzYLemoN (1600 posts) -

Well, as much as I love The Darkness, this is probably for the best. Twisted Metal & Dark Souls come out on October 4th too, and that's already too much for one day. No October 4th should have all this power.

What?!?! Oh damn the logic of it all.

Yeah, the market for games that feature a demon that eats hearts and quad-wields for you is getting pretty saturated. I guess they'd better try harder to innovate next time. Gosh, enemies that utilize light as an effective weapon against you? I haven't seen that one a million times! And a mafia-man protagonist? It's basically the new army, half the games in my library have that!

can't wait for your birthday Klepek; I'ma shit in a box and send it to ya.

#23 Posted by DaBuddaDa (290 posts) -

Rename it to "Send 2 Die"

From the gameplay I saw they are focusing much more on weapons. In the first game weapons often just ran out of ammo and you had to use your powers.

As long as can watch an entire movie IN GAME they can do whatever the hell they want with the rest of it.

One less game to buy during October, and more time to play Rage.

#34 Posted by Cybexx (1155 posts) -

I think this is about the same time of the year that most games that were slated for Fall tend to announce their delays. Because unless you want to be like Valve with Half-life 2 or Obsidian with Alpha Protocol and go completely silent till after your release date you kind of want to announce it at least a few months before your original release date, otherwise the later you choose to make that announcement the greater the risk of pissing off your retail partners and your fans. I mean even the project I'm working on just delayed our closed beta date last week, though our delay is only a matter of weeks.

This is the best news, my wallet was gonna be hurting.

I read the comics for a short time.  The first game was pretty fun but I don't know if it was good enough to get me interested in this one.

#37 Posted by popmasterruler (574 posts) -

Good, hopefully this will give them time to get Kirk Acevedo back in the role as Jackie, bring the gameplay back to a slower more methodical pace(The demo they showed was way too frenetic and chaotic) and consider making the artstyle more in line with the last game.

#38 Posted by big_jon (5710 posts) -

Hope it is good.

#39 Posted by Cold_Wolven (2214 posts) -

As sucky as it is that the game is being delayed till next year it's probably all for the best as the last 3 months of this year are too cramped and there needs to be more games to look forward to for early next year. At least Rage is coming out to fill the void till Battlefield 3 is released.

#40 Posted by vinsanityv22 (1064 posts) -

Wouldn't Digital Extremes' last major release be the multiplayer component to Bioshock? I'm just saying. It's not like they haven't done anything since Dark Sector. It's just been a lot of PC port work and outsourcing on games like Bioshock 2.

At any rate, this kinda blows. I can think of very few games that are as perfect for the Halloween season as Darkness II. Oh well. It'll probably be fine. But man it sucks to miss that Halloween season...

It was going to be released on October 4th? Patrick, that's my birthday.

Or an Endurance Run. Yeah.

Well I guess this will give me time to actually go through and finish The Darkness then.

The other FPS's are gonna want to get out of the way of Battlefield 3 and MW3 this fall.
