    Overview

The Doll is a living, life-sized doll that exists to serve the Hunters. She speaks with a faintly eastern-european accent and expresses nothing but kindness and sincerity throughout all conversations the player can have with her. When talking to The Doll the player can choose to use their acquired blood echoes to increase their stats. Players can also engage in some small conversation with her, though what she has to say is limited; completing certain story events will trigger new dialogue, however.

The Doll requires at least one point of Insight to be conversed with, otherwise she will be depicted as an inanimate doll. Though even should she be inanimate the player can still level up by talking to her as if she was alive. The Doll can sometimes be found kneeling and praying to a gravestone; with enough Insight she can be heard praying outloud that the Hunter is protected.

Like all other NPCs The Doll can be killed, though players can still level up all the while by again talking to her. If she is killed the next time the player returns to the Hunter's Dream she will be alive again; talking to her will initiate the dialogue as if the player is only just meeting The Doll for the first time, implying that there may be multiple dolls.

There exists a location called the Old Workshop, which is in fact the workshop from The Hunter's Dream only within the 'real' world. The Doll can be found there like in the Hunter's Dream, but is inanimate and cannot be interacted with. There is also a Hairpin item players can find, which when given to The Doll back in the Hunter's Dream will reward players with a unique 'Tear' gem. The Doll's outfit can also be located in the Old Workshop as well.

    Trivia

    • Gesturing in front of The Doll will have her respond in kind, by either clapping her hands, bowing, or tilting her head in confusion.
    • The Doll is voiced by Evetta Muradasilova, who also voiced the Maiden in Black in From Software's earlier game Demon's Souls. Like The Doll, the Maiden is the NPC the player must talk to in order to level up their stats.
    • It is heavily implied, from weapon's descriptions, and the dialogue with the Doll, that Lady Maria was the basis for the Doll's appearance. Maria was Gehrman's pupil, and he had an unhealthy obsession with her. The Doll shares her voice actress with Maria as well - Evetta Muradasilova.
