I've always wanted this game, but I never got around to getting it. I loved Fallout 3, so I thought I would like this. Anybody recommend it?

Hell yes. You can get the GOTY edition for 30 bucks now and it is SO SO worth it. A bit slow to start but it gets so good.

Its even bigger than Fallout 3. Perhaps not as polished all around but its great. For sure worth a major recommendation. Especially if you like these types of games.

Awful? I loved the whole thing! This is a game I would definitely recommend. Especially since you liked Fallout 3, I think you would enjoy it. Obviously the setting and story is vastly different but the game controls and plays pretty darn similarly.

The main storyline of Oblivion is pretty awful, but the Guild quests make the game worth buying, imo.

It's not so much "awful" as it is just really slow to start. However, once you close off your first Oblivion gate everything just starts getting a lot more fun.

Oh yeah Nate, grab the GOTY edition if you can. It's got extra stuff (expansion and quest) in it, and it's pretty much the same price (or maybe even less) as the normal game.

@natetodamax: I may be wrong, but I believe it comes with Knights of the Nine, and Shivering Isles. I loved the game myself. It's so worth it.

Looking at the achievements for it, it seem it just comes with Shivering Isles. I could be wrong though.

@GamingReligion: Yes it did come out before shivering isles...but it was significant enough to add into the GOTY edition I guess.  I got Oblivion at launch...later traded it in and regretted doing that so I bought the GOTY edition earlier this year.  :)

If you want to be incredibly bored by the gameplay, ugly characters, and bland quests. Then by all means go ahead and buy it. If you can't tell I'm that small percent of people that hates Oblivion.
