What genre do you guys think deserves the big open-world action-RPG treatment? There's so much to explore in so many places. Where would you guys like to go?

Here's the only one I could think of:

(Spaghetti) Western - Riding the wild west on a pale horse? Robbing banks, or helping the local law? Using a Single Action Army to single-handedly conquer this land? If it had music by Ennio Morricone, COUNT ME IN.

A Pirate adventure rpg type game.

Basically Oblivion minus all of the bugs -and adding more wenches - mand muskets, and swords, and pirate ships, and sea battles

    That would rock

I would love to see a Western RPG of any kind...I would also love to see a Western MMO. I wish we could get an epic and awesome Western game, but it seems that it's even hard to find a mediocre Western game since no one likes the setting.

An open world zombie survival horror game. What with the focus on zombie related things lately the timing is perfect.

Or perhaps game based in the World of Darkness, I'd love to see that brand taken to an open world style.

I like the pirates idea. Especially crewing up and weaponising your pirate ship, then setting sail on the open seas, FPS style.

Or it could be set around current-day Somalia...

Just to keep the internet in balance, I suggest an oriental themed rpg.  Oblivion with Ninjas, if you will.

All of these ideas sound great so far, but I'm looking for another Space RPG outside of Mass Effect. Can't get enough of those.

What about a futuristic dystopian city where totalitarian government controls the world and you're the only one who can do anything about it? You would have to like, move across rooftops, or go into sewers and things, and try to avoid federal agents and cops as you move through the world. You get what I'm trying to say?

I really like both the western and pirate ideas, but my favorite idea/theme is one that is thankfully already being made. Alpha Protocol! Spies! Espionage! Bad Cocktails! Exclamation Points!

They should make an RPG based on the Mario series. Super Mario RPG. That has a good ring to it.

A Western RPG sounds pretty cool.  I'd love to see another Elder Scrolls, actually.  A larger world with varied environments would be fantastic, especially with more types of fantasy creatures and a larger sense of scope.

I'd also like to see a steampunk/fantasy RPG.  Hoping for the same world as Arcanum is a pipe dream, but something similar to that wouldn't be out of the question.  This is actually probably the next logical step for the Elder Scrolls series.

Western sounds good, but a GTA / Saints Row RPG would be pretty cool.

Also a Superhero RPG would be cool, kinda like inFAMOUS but you create your powers and all.

Well, Freedom Force was a superhero RPG. It wasn't open-world and action oriented though. It's an excellent game if you can find it.

The problem with Bethesda style games is that they wouldn't work in relatively modern or populated areas. The whole idea of their games is a big open expanse for you to explore. If they were to make one set now, there'd be too much stuff to fit on a disc to make it mildly realistic and the idea of walking anywhere and then exploring like a manhole or something would not work. A wild west themed one would be a good idea, I think, just as long as the dustbowl isn't just an orangey version of the Capital Wasteland.

Time Travel RPG. After playing the best handheld game ever made, I want more Time Travel games so badly.
