No "traditional" open beta?

So I was reading some news stories on my phone and came across an announcement that ESO will not be having a "traditional" open beta.

I was able to find this blurb on their site, but I'm still not really sure what that truly means or what to think of it.

I've really been looking forward to this game, but it seems even though that it's still under NDA, the larger gaming press that has played it does not seem to be impressed by it.

Now with no real open beta, I guess my question is, what are they trying to hide?

Maybe the fact that animation quality is pretty much a joke right now. That the environments are small and there are lots of little load times between major hubs. Maybe that it looks nowhere near as impressive as Skyrim or many current modern MMO's. That the game sort of feels like it was designed for consoles and ported to PC, that its not cross platform play, and the consoles won't be releasing for at least 2 months after the PC launches.

It does do some things right and gets the look and overall feel of the world but overall I think people have certain expectations about what this game and not many of them are being met.

It was a very fun single-player experience to me. Much like SW:ToR.

I'm not sure if MMO fans are going to like it, and I don't really care.
