The Elder Scrolls Online Will Finally Bring The Elder Scrolls Online

The rather stylishly spartan cover spread.

It's been rumored for a while, and Game Informer has finally confirmed it via their new cover: The next chapter in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise will be a MMORPG.

The Elder Scrolls Online is currently in development at Zenimax Online Studios, and is designed to let players explore the full breadth of the world of Tamriel, "from Elsweyr to Skyrim and everywhere in between."

The Game Informer cover story will cover single-player quests, public dungeons, and even a player-driven PvP element that features three warring factions all vying for the province of Cyrodiil and the Emperor's throne. Additionally, a short teaser trailer is expected to launch tomorrow.

The Elder Scrolls Online is scheduled for a 2013 release on both PC and Mac platforms.

I bet this one will be different from all the other MMOs, right?

#3 Posted by JuxJuxJux (39 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

And it's going to be broken beyond belief!

#4 Posted by Morningstar (1087 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

At long last. Not interested though..

#6 Posted by sixpin (1187 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Not what I wanted from the series, but cheers to those who care about MMOs I guess.

#7 Posted by BrockNRolla (1698 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Great. A huge resource drain at Zenimax.

Aw snap

Not what I want from TES, so no thank you!

After seeing how crazy some of the PC mods are getting & the loot in Skyrim being rather lackluster most of the time, I can't see this being a great idea over an mmo in some other Bethesda franchise with more possibilities.

#13 Posted by Ghostiet (4749 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

No thanks. I'm good.

#16 Posted by sagebirt (36 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Where's the enthusiasm people? We haven't played it yet! imagine being able to go to all these places in Tamriel, it's going to be huge!!

#17 Posted by GunslingerPanda (4054 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

What a waste of resources.

#18 Posted by FilipHolm (608 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Don't now how to fee about this, it's coo I guess.

#19 Posted by Harpell (130 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Dammit. I really couldn't care less about this idea. Where's my Elder Scrolls RTS?

#20 Posted by mrfluke (3175 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

god dammit, fucking hate this news, part of the appeal for me of the other games is how skyrim was big like an mmo, but was free to play,

then again no words on the pricing, so maybe it will be freemium, or monthly or guild wars free

#21 Posted by SpacePenguin (456 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

I have no interest in a mmo for this series.

#22 Posted by matthias2437 (981 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

I love people saying it's going to be broken. They have been working on it since before Oblivion was released. If there is any game that will make me go back to MMOs it will probably be this one.

YUS!!!

#24 Posted by theguy (768 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

I don't want to see what the other provinces look like if I'm not going to be exploring them :/ Still I'm sure someones excited for this.

MMOrrowind?

#27 Posted by tsiro (207 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

To be honest, this announcement isn't getting the response that I had anticipated. Upon hearing the announcement, I thought that it would be nothing but "OMG PUT IT IN MY BODY". Apparently I was mistaken.

And I will join the ranks of people saying "Good for them, but this game isn't for me". I wonder if it'll be more like an Elder Scrolls game or like an MMO? I'm at least interested to hear more.

#28 Posted by Vegetable_Side_Dish (1701 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Good lord. How many months after release will this take to become playable, they can't even get singleplayer down.

#29 Posted by President_Barackbar (3145 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Wow people, have a little faith in Bethesda. Normally I would avoid an MMO like the plague, but I'm certainly interested to see where this goes. Just because it's an MMO doesn't mean it has to be terrible.

#30 Posted by poser (350 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

An MMO misses the very point of what the Elder Scrolls is about.

#31 Posted by subyman (334 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

I'd rather see a Skyrim Coop expansion.

#32 Posted by Sackmanjones (4173 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

I love elder scrolls. I hate mmos more than I love eldar scrolls. I will not be playing this

#33 Posted by cyraxible (679 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

@President_Barackbar: Given that's it's not Bethesda Game Studios and is only a Bethesda property being done by a Zenimax dev it doesn't instill a lot of confidence.

#34 Posted by AuthenticM (3515 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Fucking called it.

#35 Posted by Gravier251 (183 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Odd choice. Suppose shall have to wait and see, though given how broken all the RPG systems have been in Elder Scrolls to date (And I suppose Fallout 3 aswell). I'm dubious about an MMO on the mechanics side.

#36 Posted by Lokno (368 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Nice snake-eating-its-tail title.

#37 Posted by sandweed (153 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Just like all shooters have to chase the COD money, all RPGS must chase the WOW money. Activitsions success is ruining gaming.

#38 Posted by Tredik (69 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Welp, can't turn out any worse than TOR, right?

#39 Posted by JuxJuxJux (39 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

@matthias2437: So time spent in development is indicative of the quality of the final product? Hrm. Duke says hi.

#40 Posted by AlexW00d (5429 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

I'd rather a single player version of the entirety of Tamriel. MMOs are almost exclusively shit.

#41 Posted by Simulacrum (462 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

I'll probably be playing guild wars 2 by then.

#42 Posted by thornie (106 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Will this be 1st person? Has there ever been a 1st person MMO?

#43 Posted by adoggz (1877 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago
@JuxJuxJux

And it's going to be broken beyond belief!

I can't wait to see how buggy Bethesda can make this game.

FUS-RAH-DONOTWANT!

#45 Posted by Hailinel (18081 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

It will be h

#46 Posted by Seb (306 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Meh?

#47 Posted by AlisterCat (5023 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

If they can match the quality of the single player games I'm all for it.

#48 Posted by HydraHam (1338 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Well it was nice knowing everyone.

First my marriage will fall apart, then i will lose my job and house and eventually just die.

#49 Posted by Demoskinos (8972 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

My apathy is palpable.

#50 Posted by Superfriend (1275 posts) - 1 year, 17 days ago

Duh, now I´m gonna have to play an MMO...

maybe there´s a single player mode? Like a "don´t pay a monthly fee cause you´re never gonna team up with anybody anyway" - mode?
