Let me guess, it's gonna be revolutionary and all that shit. Man fuck mmos, I've played a lot of them and compared to single player games they suck. I just hope this won't stop them from making new elder scrolls games, skyrim was fucking amazing and you can't make it into an mmo but they're gonna try.
The Elder Scrolls Online

An MMORPG set in the world of Nirn, focusing on the familiar continent of Tamriel, taking place a thousand years before The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim.
The Elder Scrolls Online Will Finally Bring The Elder Scrolls Online
As long as I get my Khajiit sneak-thief ganking lizards from behind, I'm good.
I'll check this out. Could be something new.
No, goddammit, how many MMOs have to come out and be barely/not at all successful before people give up on the idea? Yeah, Elder Scrolls has more name recognition than a lot of things, but unless they're drastically changing something about how MMOs work, this will have a relatively large launch because people want to try something new, then they realize it's more of the same, the subscription count will drop, and it was a giant waste of time.
*edit Didn't read very thoroughly. If it isn't being worked on by the developer Bethesda, I guess I don't care. Someone else can deal with the crap that comes with getting into that space. I doubt I'll be interested - I have given up on MMOs, and I don't think any property in existence could make me interested in them again. I just don't want the team that made Skyrim to waste their time with this game.
*edit 2 And PvP? Really?
No thanks, if even the Elder Scrolls isn't safe anymore i think its time to remember the prime of the Elder Scroll's series, and move on to something new.
I don't come to the Elder Scroll's for a MMO experience, any such talk is blasphemy.
Jesus wept, this is probably the worst possibly idea bethesda could've came up with. Okay..not THE worst, but one of the worst. A company known for making buggy games, on buggy engines, making a buggy mmo filled with buggy quests, and probably lacking the player impact on the world that everyone likes from their games. Count me out on this one, unless it turns out amazing, but i'd eat my shoe if that happened.
I'm going to say the same thing I said to the thread:
Of all the games that don't need online features...
Wow, the Internet's trademark knee-jerk negativity never ceases to amaze me. I thought a match-three puzzle game with Pac-Man sounded dumb. But you know what? Pac-Chomp for iOS is amazing. Hopefully this will be amazing. And I'm not going to make any snap judgements...until I watch the teaser trailer tomorrow...then I'll feel free to shit all over this.
An MMO seems like a super obvious direction to take the franchise, and Nirn is a huge setting with tons of interesting locations and shit hinted at in the lore, but I sincerely hope this doesn't mean the end of single player TES games.
I'm that dude who is super bitter that we're seemingly never going to get Warcraft 4 thanks to the success of WoW.

I used to like MMO's, then I took a look in the mirror.
Same. :(

What a bunch of moaning fuckheads. You haven't even heard any details or viewed any potential gameplay. Thousands of people bitched about the lack of coop/multiplayer when Skyrim was released - so perhaps they are attempting to appease their fans etc.
Personally, if this is like Skyrim, but with coop/multiplayer then I for one would be excited for this. People hear MMO and they think WoW gameplay. If they do go that route then Ill poopoo this announcement with the rest of you. But until that time why don't we reserve judgement huh.
Wha...? Bethesda has been releasing TES in the same singleplayer format since... forever? People have complained? Huh? If anything multiplayer has been modded in by the community.
The more I think about it, the more I think Bethesda should go with a more Minecraft system where going full on MMO seems more and more a bad idea the longer I consider it.
MMOs are a very expensive market to get into. Especially with the latest trends even if they started working on the game years ago, this may already be behind. The odds are stacked pretty high against any new sword and sorcery MMO succeeding today that is not FTP/PTP where it isn't so much a problem with the IP but the market.
Yeah if it's $60 game with $15 for each month model, no fucking thanks.
There are enough free to play MMOs out there to waste my time on and I will happily do so.
I love the ES universe but if they try to turn it into a loot hunt and raid party they've already lost me.
Quests were always what kept me coming back to oblivion and skyrim and in an MMO setting I can see that being screwed up badly.
Here is my prediction:
In typical big ambition MMO fashion this game will fail and most or all of the Elderscrolls/Fallout profit will go down the drain. This will lead Zenimax to cut off the "fat" and kill id Software and Shinji Mikami's project, making them one of the most hated companies in the industry.
Well, it's been rumored for so long, I guess they had to do it sooner or later. Not really interested in an MMO TES game.
Make it play like an ES game, and I'm in. Make it play like WoW or some bullshit, and I'm out.

The ES games were never about the player impact on the world, that's the Fallout games. ES is purely about the sandbox and doing whatever you please, not really having any real effect on the game world.

For real though, I walked past the shelf with that Dwemer Puzzle Box on it like four times.
With the death of WoW slowly becoming imminent, I think this could be a great entry for the Elder Scrolls universe provided that they [Zenimax] can produce an MMO which brings new gameplay elements to the table rather than rehashing old concepts.
This should be an exciting year for new MMO's, especially considering how popular The Elder Scrolls series is ...

Love how people are writing this off after all they've seen is the font of the title. People are dumb.
The reasons seem logical enough to me. The Elder Scrolls gameplay has always the exact opposite of what MMO's are, so it's not surprising people are resistant.
If it's first person, focused on exploring and still feels like the Elder Scrolls, I'm in.. but come on, it's going to be nothing more than a WoW clone. I'll care if/when that turns out not to be the case.
Well, they're a HeroEngine licensee - AKA the same engine that The Old Republic uses. Wasn't a big fan of it, we'll see how it shakes out.

A make your own fun, sandbox style MMO is probably the best fit for the series. Building homes, roleplaying NPC's and all that. If they're trying to hook players in with the tried and true quest/loot/level/grind system and archetype classes, they're taking the easy way out. That shit is just naturally addictive, not good game design.
