Because it ran like shit and only used the first 2gb of ram. They fixed these issues in the last patch, then released this.God, why couldn't they just have the high res textures available in the first place?

Has anyone seen any examples of the high res pack in action?
I posted some on another thread.
''Also, since Skyrim was the only major release of 2011 without Nolan North in it, you should consider this mod a patch to fix that problem. You can now feel free to include Skyrim in the "Nolan North" section of your video game library, which is to say, your video game library.''
That was genuinely funny

Yup I certainly got a kick out of it too. Now excuse me while I try to break my game with some proper(-)ass mods!
Not saying that pre-creation kit stuff was bad, but now shit is for real, yo. I wonder how long it will take for a crazy person to do Morrowind.
Change the server you connect to for downloading in the Steam options to a server in a timezone where they would be sleeping right now. For example, Russia.
Technically you're getting slower peak speeds vs a closer server, but with their server being mostly inactive currently, you get near max speeds instead of crappy speeds on our servers during peak hours.
The High Res Texture pack is messing with some of my installed mods, like the weapons retexture pack, it's like the HRT Pack is overwriting thos files

That is expected and completely normal. Uninstall the weapon texture mod and wait for the dev to fix the compatibility.
Valve also acknowledges the lack of Nolan North in Skyrim as a problem:
To celebrate the opening of the Steam Workshop for Skyrim, Valve and Bethesda have teamed up to bring you the Portal 2 Space Core mod, which will let the aggressively space-centric little robot tag along on your adventures in Tamriel.
