    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Game » consists of 30 releases. Released Nov 11, 2011

The fifth installment in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise is set in the eponymous province of Skyrim, where the ancient threat of dragons, led by the sinister Alduin, is rising again to threaten all mortal races. Only the player, as the prophesied hero the Dovahkiin, can save the world from destruction.

Do the Elder Scrolls games take place in the same world?

What I mean by that is during Skyrim have the events of Morrowind and Oblivion happened, will happen or going on concurrently?

I have played Morrowind and Oblivion but I have a pretty terrible memory so I don't remember any references that could have hinted at it.

Skyrim is like 100 years after the events of Oblivion. Or more. Or less.

They take place in the same world. Skyrim takes place about 200 years after Oblivion. I don't remember the time gap between Morrowind and Oblivion. Best thing to do would be to visit the Elder Scrolls wiki and read about it there.

@VanillaPlant: Yeah I know they all take place on the same map/world, I was thinking more of the timeline. Sorry for the confusing thread title.

morrowind was a shorter gap, like 20-60 years before oblivion i think, although they do sort of leave the timeline open as well, one of the older games created a weird paradox in the timeline and the lore basically says yeah we don't know what the fuck happened but suddenly a bunch of people where dead and several empires collapsed.

You can throw continuity right the fuck out the window, because the developers certainly have. Just focus on the story at hand and you'll be all good.

    Technically yes.

But considering threat they always take place in different regions and many many years apart it barely matters.

I think might be even less than that. In OB´blivion it is mentioned that Nerevarine has recently traveled across the sea.

Shouldn't TES IV have been called Cyrodiil instead of Oblivion?

Talk continuity and Daggerfall! There were multiple endings you can get in that game, and a book in Morrowind explains that every single one happened at the exact same time as the other!

Skyrim being 200 years or so after Oblivion, I wonder if there will be a lot of info on other provinces and their happenings over the past, since Oblivion. I would like to see how Oblivions end resulted in the different provinces.

The two novels that were supposed to bridge Oblivion and Skyrim were basically insane fantasy sci-fi so I'm pretty interested in seeing if there is any continuity in that. I thought they were both great, but man, some of that stuff was out there, very Morrowind-ish.

There is some crazy lore behind Nirn's creation. See if I can dig it up...
