    So, everybody.

I have a slight problem with my friends. They keep nagging about me to stop playing Skyrim, since they hate it.

The points they bring up with Skyrim are these, and these only:

    1. Buggy (which is not true for everybody, mostly on PS3)

    2. Boring (which is certaintly not true)

They do not bring up the fantastic graphics of the game, the unbelievable work Bethesda put into it, and they also hate Oblivion, and yes, they hated Morrowind. My friends can be into adventure games, but they hate TES, the grandpa of adventure games. They seem to level TES on the lowest scale of video game quality, which is ofcourse wrong. I can't believe they hate the franchise that got 3 GOTY awards in a row. Morrowind (GOTY), Oblivion (GOTY), Skyrim (GOTY).

They also hate quests, which is really weird. PS. The GOTY they picked was Bastion.

    Cool story bro.

No, really, what? So your friends don't like a game that you like. Why do we need to know about this?

Many others and I don't like COD, yet it doesn't stop others from playing and enjoying it. Play what you like, don't care about what others say you should like

If they would be your friends, they would let you enjoy what you like. My advice: get new friends.

Why would you care what your friends think? GOTY awards are meaningless and people can have different tastes. Just because a game is well put together doesn't mean everyone will like it. I hate Half-life, so what?

Your friends were right in picking Bastion though.

Additional friendly advice: one can hardly make a case for calling the Elder Scrolls games "adventure games". Though adventure is conceptually at their core, people associate the term "adventure game" with a rather specific type of gameplay which the TES-games rarely feature.

Maybe that has been a source of miscommunication between you and your friends?

Pretty much what this guy says. Even the part about fantastic graphics. They're certainly good but I would hardly call them anything more than that, though the game does garner a certain beauty when looking over the world from atop a mountain.

Meanwhile, anyone can have an opinion on games. You can argue objectivity until you run out of breath, but at the end of the day nobody gives a fuck about that. They only care if they're enjoying it or not, and obviously your friends aren't.

Oh, and one last little thing - what exactly is and is not objectively arguable in video games is in and of itself an arguable topic.

If you want to play the games then that is totally fine and you should continue to do that and screw your friends on this matter. However if you bring it up everytime trying to get them to like it then you are making it worse, especially if you play it when they are free and want to play something else with you.

Don't play it when they are around and everything should be fine - I don't think you should get rid of these friends of yours (especially since jumping to that conclusion isn't a good thing since they might simply be saying it because they want to specifically want to play multiplayer games with you and so are just insulting it since it is a single player game that you are playing a lot, something which could be taking away from time which they are used to spending enjoying with you).

However it couldn't hurt to make new friend sin these kinds of interests, you are never going to find people you agree with all the time so it might be a good thing to look at people with different perspectives to hang out with while keeping the things you like doing with your current friends and gaining new ones to try new things. Just don't kick out your friends for one tiny thing like this (it could just be one of those things that annoys them, like I hate metal music and it really annoys me when friends play it around me but I am totally fine with them playign it when with other firends or whan I am not around).

Oh, I wasn't aware this is a cliché. Usually people tend to stick to the crowd they know, no matter if they are good or bad for them. Sometimes even if they know exactly that they are bad for them. I actually thought I brought up quite the innovative idea.

But honestly, what kind of friends give you a hard time just because you play a game they don't like? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but usually friends, of all people, should be the ones that accept you the way you are. Unlike family and colleagues, you can pick your friends. So you shoud pick people you get along with the most. Just my two cents.
