I have it on 360 so I know it works there, however my friend got it for PS3 and can't figure out how to install it.

I told him to press triangle over the game and look for the Install to HDD. He tried to argue that the PS3 didn't allow you to install [games in general].

It doesn't make sense to me that they'd allow it for 360, but not the PS3.

Am I missing something?

You can't install full games from a disc onto the PS3.

Is that something Sony could add with a System Update? Or are PS3's not made to be able to do that?

Full Game Installs is not an option for the PS3. Most PS3 games do have mandatory Game Utility Installs. It's like a half-way point between playing the game on the disc and playing it off the hard drive. A chunk of the data gets loaded onto the HDD allowing for quick access to certain assets of the game.

There's a mandatory install for Skyrim on PS3 of about 5 GBs, compared to the optional install of around 3GBs on 360. Of course, there are also the new patches for both versions to consider (backwards dragons, yo!) which you definitely want to hold off on untill the third(?) patch finally hits this week - it remedies the aforementioned backwards dragons and busted magic resistance.

The basic rundown between 360 and ps3 versions goes like this

ps3 version:

No jaggies or screen tearing

potentially higher framerate with slightly more framerate drops

360 version:

Sharper textures at the price of jaggies.

Different contrast on textures makes them a tiny bit darker and, in some cases, more vivid.

Not as many framerate drops, though the framerate is capped at around 30.

Overall picture:

Just get it for PC. If not, get it for whatever. Fus ro da and so forth.
