With all the major releases out, whats your have you had a chance to pick a GOTY? I have played Skyrim for about 8 hours and I can already tell its my personal game of the year.

Though I have yet to play Uncharted 3 and Zelda, Skyrim is the only game that has really filled me with awe this year. Arkham City was the only game that really came close to matching my experience with Skyrim so far, and I won't be playing Arkham City three years down the road. Barring several game breaking bugs, Skyrim will probably be my GOTY.

I haven't played Saints Row III yet, but i think that will be my GOTY. Skyrim was okay.

EDIT: "Okay" in the sense of "Good", not in the sense of "Meh".

@Molenator85 lol I also played arkum asylum when I got it for 7.50 off of steam :)

Its up there as a contender. But there are still a few games I've yet to play so we shall see.

I still have yet to play and I'm still waiting for some motherfuckin Zelda.

It's the hands down winner with hardcore and critics from what i can see. It is definitely the front runner at this point as Uncharted and Zelda seem to have fallen flat while Batman is already being forgotten about (sadly). AC Revelations could surprise but if the current crop of sequels is any indication it is doomed to underwhelm as well.

My heart belongs to Dark Souls!

Except for Witcher 2, I'd say yes. Although i haven't actually played Skyrim yet, getting my copy tomorrow morning, in about 12 hours. Still, I've seen enough game footage to know that it's a serious contender for that title.

So far Skyrim is the most exciting game experience I've had this year, so it's definitely on my list. Going to have to wait for the rest of the year's releases but I seriously can't see myself thinking more highly of a game than this one, except perhaps Bastion.

The Witcher 2 or Zelda Skyward Sword, one of the two will most likely be mine. If you're taking about this sites GOTY, I couldn't care less.

Haven't been able to play much due to technical difficulties but first impressions are very good. Not sure about GOTY though, gotta wait and see.

PORTAL 2

That game was absolutely fucking brilliant. Nothing short of a masterpiece. I'm surprised so many people have forgotten about it but I think it's by far the best game that came out this year so far and deservers the GotY more than any other game.

#14 Posted by Wuddel (2057 posts) -

Haven't played enough of it yet. So far its up there. Dead Space 2 and Portal 2 are so far contenders with BF3 coming close. I own the Witcher 2 but haven't found time to play it yet, so there is that.

It's great, but Arkham City is GOTY for me.

#16 Posted by imsh_pl (3295 posts) -

There's still Dark Souls, Uncharted 3, Arkham City and AC Revelations to be played for me so not yet.

#17 Posted by Molenator85 (205 posts) -

@Jack_Daniels: Arkham City is fantastic, but like it was discussed on the Bombcast, it doesn't have the wow factor like Arkham Asylum. Walking out of the introduction city in Skyrim into the forest is up there along with seeing Rapture in Bioshock and exiting the Vault in Fallout 3 as moments in gaming that have nearly taken my breath away.

This sounds like a very stupid thing to say. I'm not insulting the quality of the game; I'm just saying that you may wish to give it more than less than a day, especially since it's a huge RPG and everything.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Out of all the games i have played, Skyrim comes on top, in terms of sheer enjoyment. To be fair I'm only level 3 in Skyrim haha, but its so much fun!

Although Zelda comes out soon, so who knows.

Yeah, I seriously doubt it will surpass Dark Souls. But you never know, I only just picked it up from the store.

If a game can make me want to break my controller or punch babies like Dark Souls did...then yeah..it gets my GOTY.

#23 Posted by soiledsanchez (75 posts) -

i havent played skyrim yet but from everything ive watched on here i would crown it now

#24 Posted by TehFlan (1944 posts) -

I'm not planning on playing it before the end of the year.

#25 Posted by MonetaryDread (1950 posts) -

From what I have tried so far this year Skyrim is the best.  I am only five or so hours into the game right now, but those five hours have been awe inspiring.

#26 Posted by TomShreds (45 posts) -

@Jack_Daniels: Hands down it is mine. Seriously it is such a deep game. I'm eating and then I'm going back to Skyrim!

#27 Posted by tekmojo (2298 posts) -

I've got 3 games on my list Dark Souls, Battlefield 3, and Skyrim. Amazing titles.

#28 Posted by IBurningStar (2145 posts) -

I think it is a bit too early for any of us to call anything GOTY. Skyrim hasn't even been out 24 hours yet, so I don't think I've had enough time with a game of that scale to say anything for sure. Then there are games like Skyward Sword and Saints Row: The Third that I haven't played yet. Skyrim is a contender, but it hasn't won.

My list is basically the same as yours. Dark souls which I had never played or heard of until its realase was such a nice suprise. BF3 Tons of enjoyment and have waited for a long time. Skyrim...... well its Skyrim what more do you want?

#30 Posted by valrog (3671 posts) -

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Skyrim would be pretty much my last choice.

#31 Posted by Jack268 (3387 posts) -

No.

#32 Posted by zombie2011 (4941 posts) -

I've only played it for about 3 hours, so no.

Right now it's Gears 3.

#33 Posted by Mrsignerman44 (1100 posts) -

Ask me again in a month because DAMN was Dark souls great! Hell, I still haven't beaten it and I'm still amazed by it!

#34 Edited by Barrock (3525 posts) -

Yup. As a gigantic Batman fan, Skyrim is even jawdroppingly awesome to me. Uncharted 3 was great but lesser than the other two. Dark Souls is great but not as amazing as Skyrim in my opinion (Which won't be popular here).

#35 Posted by OtakuGamer (1181 posts) -

Its on the list, I think it has a good chance.

#36 Posted by KingX (220 posts) -

Well, I guess this can very well be my game of the year but put aside Uncharted 3 is also my game of the year when it comes to action adveneture games.

But yeah well.. I do favor RPG games a bit more than action adventure games and Skyrim is so damn good! Thank so much bethesda!

#37 Posted by Sanity (1852 posts) -

Most likely, at least from what im going to play.

#38 Edited by RIDEBIRD (1229 posts) -

Portal 2, BF3, Skyrim. I think those three dudes will have to split the throne for me this year.

To make myself unpopular I thought The Witcher 2 had quite a few flaws. The difficulty curve (from impossible to trivial), quite enclosed areas and not as good plot as The Witcher 1. Still a great story, but I thought The Witcher 1 had some truly brilliant, genious, moments - for example the end of Act 1 or 2, in the village. Best RPG story-thing ever if you ask me, and 2 just didn't have the same thing. It was more clear and linear all along.

Meh. I loved Demon's Souls and I really loved Dark Souls in the beginning.

But after finishing the game and looking back it really had bad levels near the last third of the game and the invasion stuff was just frustrating

#43 Posted by Ares42 (2442 posts) -

The Skyrim exprience is just way too inconsistent to make for GOTY imo. It has a lot of great stuff to offer but you can just as easily just get stuck in a rut. It gives the player just a tad too much freedom, to the point that you can easily go for hours and hours missing key features. But then again that's what's it's best part too so it's hard to judge it too hard for it. I'd say it's probably top 3 and definitely top 5.

#44 Posted by jelekeloy (456 posts) -

6.5 hours in, it's pretty safe to say Skyrim will be my #2 behind only Portal 2, which is on an unreachable pedestal in my mind. I haven't been this into a game since, well, Portal 2.

#45 Posted by Fjordson (2448 posts) -

Easily. The real question is just how far ahead of everyone else it'll be after I've had 50-60 hours with it.

#46 Posted by ShaggE (5980 posts) -

Dunno about GOTY, especially in a banner year like this, but the fact that I like it at all is an achievement to behold. (I hated Oblivion, and fantasy in general bores me to death)

Then again, I'm sitting here twitching like an addict thinking about jumping back in. If that's not a sign of exceptional quality, I don't know what is.

#47 Posted by NickL (2246 posts) -

I am only about 6 hours into skyrim so far but it seems like a strong contender at this point.

I haven't played many new releases this year yet though, it would probably be between gears 3, portal 2, and skyrim right now. (I haven't played a lot of big games yet like arkham city, uncharted 3, or forza)

#48 Posted by Hizang (8534 posts) -

I need to play Saints Row 3, Zelda and Super Mario Land, but yes probably.

#49 Posted by FancySoapsMan (5750 posts) -

It's a close second.

I have played skyrim, however, and as good as it is (pretty dang good) witcher 2's still better.
