    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Game » consists of 30 releases. Released Nov 11, 2011

The fifth installment in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise is set in the eponymous province of Skyrim, where the ancient threat of dragons, led by the sinister Alduin, is rising again to threaten all mortal races. I own a Dell XPS and a PS3, which system would run the game better? Dell XPS 15 specs are as follows:

    -Sandy Bridge Core i7 2670QM Quad-Core 2.2GHz

-Nvidia GeForce GT 540m 2GB GPU

    -8GB DDR3 RAM

I know that if I get the console version, everything will run as expected, probably around the medium setting equivalent of the PC version. I just want to know if I could get a better experience out of my laptop or my PS3 graphics wise.

Ok, thanks guys. The GPU I have is a decent midranged one, so I wasn't sure how it's performance compares to consoles.

I picked PS3 today because couch and trophies, Im getting PC once cheap. Mods take like a year or so to come out.. at least the good ones, elf whores the mod can wait.

Also the interface is designed for console and the visual jump betwen console/PC isnt that bad (yee PC Looks better, but console looks good enough for me)

Mine's a Dell XPS 720 desktop with an intel core 2 duo 2.9 GHZ, 4GB of DDR2 RAM and a 768MB Geforce 460 and I'm running it at 1920x1080 on High Settings perfectly fine. You will be fine too.

I don't want to sound like I'm picking on you but I can't believe people have to ask if their quad core PC can run a game that a god damn console can. The 360 is especially old ass tech at this point.

An 8800GTX from 2006 will play this game much better than a PS3 or 360. Your card is considerably better than that one.

Same here. We need to put our PCs in our living rooms and plugging them to TVs.

    I'm doing that, next gen.

Uhhhh a Geforce 540m or certainly 525m are not going to run Skyrim well at all. With cards like those, you are much better off running the game off your 360s or Ps3s.

540m is a bit faster than a desktop 8800. People are running Skyrim on 8800's on medium-high at 1680x1050 resolution. If anything, 1050p > 640 or 720 upscaled.

Load times on the PC are plenty fast on a platter based hard drive, too. Loads faster than New Vegas/Oblivion does on my SSD.

your pc is set up similar to my laptop and im running everything on high with no lag. Have had no black screens or problems. It shut off on me once but that was also after like 6 hours of constant playing. I hooked my ps3 controller up to my laptop though since i dont like how the mouse feels ingame. Get for pc, the look of the game is alot better with the buffed graphics. + mods :D

yes, any controller will work as long as you have a program that changes the settings to the 360. At the moment i am using a ps3 controller and it works fine.

I'll throw out there the "you should probably get a physical copy of this game because you'll probably reinstall it ten years later and who knows where Steam might be" argument, but nobody collects games like that but me.

Or if possible try getting a 360 usb pad. it works perfectly and can be used with other games as well.

I do actually, if I can easily get a physical copy of a game (which is usually the case) then I go for it. Especially for PC games, as the industry is moving toward digital distribution, owning boxed versions might be valuable one day.

Or if you already own a ps3 controller use that seeing as the program needed to use the controller on the pc makes it a 360 anyways so you can play any game that has controller support Without having to buy another one that is designated only to pc.

I guess the only thing that weirds me out here is that none of the reviews I've seen have played the PS3 version, its seems like it was all 360 and to a lesser extent PC...I know Brad looked at the PC version but played mostly on 360, and I guess I don't expect them to play EVERY version for review, but it got me wondering, what if the game is super messed up on PS3? Or what if its the best-looking version and loads faster than 360? In either case I suppose the PS3 community would have clued us in after purchasing it, but still...it's weird.
