Why is it sixty dollars? This isn't a console game. That's what I thought. But hey, they're smart. They know it'll sell well either way, so why not price it higher, right?
First game on the PC, always a supporter for the PC. This shit shows that they don't give two shits anymore.@Tru3_Blu3 said:

$60 is basically the new standard for PC BF 3 SC 2 SWTOR RAGE etc
I know it's just a measly extra $10, but it doesn't make sense. The only reason why console games are $60 is because of the development tools and console developer rights. The PC's an open platform, so there's no reason to give another $10 to M$, $ony or Nintendo.

I refuse to buy anything at full price anyway, unless it's a collector's edition or an extenuating circumstance. I can count the games I've paid full price for this gen on one hand.
- Forza Motorsport 3 LCE (Dammit. Total shitfest.)
- DiRT 3 (Worth its weight in gold)
- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Back when I was a naive Nintendo fanboy. Not a bad game by any regard)
- [Proposed] StarCraft 2 Heart of the Swarm CE
Wasn't there a big stink when MW2 came out because it was going to be at 60 bucks for PC? I guess other companies decided they could get away with it too.

Well, two of those are EA games, and EA's been doing this like assholes lately. SC2 is Blizzard, and Blizzard has charged $60 since fucking D2 came out. Rage (and Skyrim) would be Bethesda, so it seems Bethesda's jumped on the bandwagon about that.
It's dumb as shit, but I don't pay full price for games anyway.

M$? $ony? What is this? 2006?
Anyways you're giving 10 dollars to neither of them. They don't own Bethesda. The reason Skyrim is 60 dollars is cause you people keep buying PC games at 60 dollars. It all started with Modern Warfare 2 to test the waters and companies saw that people were willing to pay the price. Gamers never think any game is worth any full price anyways, so no use appeasing them. Go for the big money.
Why is it sixty dollars? This isn't a console game.Same reason console games are. Somebody tried it and it worked. Now everyone else will.

It's called charging what the market will bear.
Suckahs, I woulda' bought it for $90.
But for real, I am tired of this hysterical "Company X has turned its back on PC GAMERZ!" line of bullshit in every thread, about every game, on every board nowadays.
My problem is, do I buy it on Steam for the stupid TF2 helmet (I do play a fair bit of Heavy), or do I wait to see if they have a good CE.... Maybe we'll find out during Quakecon.

I never said charging $60 was right I just said it is now the normal price point on new PC games.
Shit, I really want Skyrim as soon as possible, but fuck, I could buy 10 other games for $60. I'm not sure if its worth it.

Uh, yeah, as much as i'm currently loving Oblivion and looking forward to Skyrim, based on the gameplay videos i can clearly see that the technology used in Skyrim is ancient, with bad animations and tired textures and visuals, not to mention the fact that this is a console port for 60$
Oblivion and The Witcher have my RPG needs covered until Skyrim drops in price and becomes worthy of a purchase.

$150 gets you this. I personally like it a lot but $150 is too much for me, considering the other games coming out within a month of Skyrim.

here you are again. $60 is not the first time game developers tried. they started with Tom Clancy's Splinter cell conviction back in April, 2010. at that time, I thought it was ridiculous. then other companies have followed like Activision, EA. so major AAA games will be $60 without no more surprise. don't surprise with it for the future.

I'd like to join your cause, but what the heck do you guys do until the games drop in price? Avoid the Bombcast, internet, etc? Are you guys gonna be there to hold me when the temptation gets to be too much??

I only avoid the Bombcast if they talk about story spoilers. And yeah, I avoid any threads about the game.
I've got such a huge backlog that I've got plenty of games to occupy my time until the game hits $20-30, which usually only takes anywhere from 4-8 months. Like, the year Mass Effect 2 came out in January, I got it for $22 in April. The deals come fast and hard for most games if you're patient. For something like a Blizzard game, though, that almost never drops in price, unless it's like a $5-10 retailer-specific sale. Blizzard games hold their value for a long time.

Inspiring discipline. Don't think that'll work with Battlefield 3 though. If I'm waiting 3 months to dive into multiplayer I might as well hang out on the corner instead and get paid while I'm at it.
Strange, european price remains at 49.99 euros. It's what we've always paid for PC games. No increase here.
Since we're on the topic of PC game prices, has it ever been reported exactly what the Steam royalties/licensing fees are? I'm sure it's not as high as what the console manufacturers charge, but I'd like to know exactly what it is.
wait, you don't get the semi-crappy map-poster with the standard edition?
FUCK
(this sounds sarcastic, but is actually fairly genuine)

Good old entitled super cheap gamer.. With iphone and facebook games doing literally hundred of millions, You guys should be thankful there is still some publisher/developers whiling to put big ass budget hight risk games out there.
Because you know Skyrim is not a high risk niche game that's very susceptible to piracy mostly in the PC.
Fuck Bethesda greedy bastards... why don't they make Oblivion facebook and earn some millions the easy way? They still trying to cheat us with good long ass quality RPGs.
fuck them!
@Minifig said:
I'd say the 10 dollars extra is worth it for the fact that PC players will get Mods.
Wait, what? No, that's despicable. First of all, all Bethesda games have had native mod support (Morrowind, Oblivion, the Fallouts) "for free", so there's no reason to start charging now. Secondly, mods are usually created to fix and improve the base game, so we would be actually paying Bethesda for the ability to make its game better. Mods are a huge selling point for the PC versions of Bethesda games. They alone more than make up for the cheaper price compared with the console versions.
There's no sugar-coating this: they are charging $10 more than usual for PC games because they can. If the buyers start justifying the price increase, next thing you know they'll be charging for extra "perks" like cloud storage (Steamworks need maintenance), Achievements (because you can cheat on PC easily, right?), patches (have to tried optimizing a game for PC hardware? Each PC is completely different from the rest!), etc.
The best way to counter this is to buy it cheaper elsewhere. From the looks of it, it doesn't seem that Skyrim will be a Steamworks game, so you're not losing anything if you don't get it on Steam. If it is a Steamworks game, chances are you'll be able to activate on Steam, so, again, you can buy it cheaper in another store and lose nothing in the process.
Eh, I'll get it from shopto.
Still £30 there and you get the map...most times I get it one or two days early, too. :)
