The latest add-on for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Dragonborn, launches tomorrow on Xbox 360, as per Microsoft’s exclusivity agreement, and arrives on PCandPlayStation 3 (!!!) early next year.

Bethesda Game Studios made this promise to PS3 owners in a blog post today, and it suggests whatever work it has been doing in collaboration with Sony regarding Skyrim is making progress.

In the comment section, players asked about the game’s other add-ons coming to PS3, and Bestheda was non-committal, only promising updates there would be more updates in the future.

“We know you guys are hungry for more content, and we still have more in the works,” said the company. “We’ll share details with everyone as soon as we can.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bethesda is saving the add-ons to drop at once alongside Dragonborn, or at least stagger them pretty close to one another when the technical issues have been resolved. We’ll see, but let's be optimistic!

Bethesda Game Studios has struggled with Sony’s platform all generation long, and Skyrim was no exception. In many cases, it was much worse, since it was broken in fundamental ways, and PS3 owners have yet to receive downloadable content that’s readily available elsewhere for technical reasons. Players have reason to be upset.

The delayed releases are really good at taking away the interest I had in getting DLC. I completely forgot about the other DLC and now I have no interest in getting it at all. This one will probably be the same.

Have the game on PS3, really no desire to jump back in, with the DLC coming out? Even less of a desire. None of the DLC has sounded interesting at all. Vampires? A house? Riding dragons? Meh, I prefer the story lines of the game.

Yikes, Hearthfire hard locks my 360 every single time I walk in to my home. I can't imagine what kind of issues Bethesda is deeming unacceptable on the PS3.

Not sure what's the bitterness over delayed DLC releases. It seems crazy to get it on day 1 in the first place, when it is guarenteed to go on Steam sale in less than a year.

I bought Skyrim on the PS3 last year. I ignored the complaints about Fallout on PS3, thinking "Surely, they've fixed the problems by now." What a mistake. I nearly bought the XBox version during Black Friday so that I could get the DLC content. The news about Dragonborn on the PS3 comes as a very welcome surprise. At this point, I might as well hold on to my PS3 copy of the game. Even if it comes to the PS3 and works, however, I have learned my lesson. Bethesda + PS3 = Never again.

Well, I'm getting bored with the moronic platform exclusivity. I have been itching to get back into Skyrim and I probably will give it another magnificent run when all the DLC is actually out on PC. I may just wait for the whole package to receive a good discount at this point. There's so much other great stuff to play that I just can't be bothered with following all the weird release date nonsense every fucking time. Shit like this makes me really miss a good old expansion pack that ensured I'd get another significant chunk of game to dive back into a beloved universe. Skyrim, as excellent as I personally think it is, doesn't lend itself well to dispensing bite-sized quests every once in a while. When they decide to even make me wait at the very moment I'm aware of a new piece of content I'll just pass for the time being.

I dont have a ps3 copy, but I would hope that they just throw a bone to those users and give away one of them for free. PS3 users have gotten the shaft from Bethesda for this entire generation, so it would be a nice gesture of them appreciating the user's patience

There was some talk (i.e. baseless rumors) that they would discount the DLC for PS3 users. I don't have much hope.

I've never bought a Bethesda game on Steam. How long does it take them to put a GOTY edition for a game like this on sale?

Yep. Bethesda completely squandered the addon potential of Skyrim with this garbage. Also, as a PC, PS3 and 360 owner, I'd really appreciate it if companies stopped selling exclusivity rights. It's just a giant "fuck you" to everyone. It improves no one's experience, it only worsens it for some.

I feel worse for poor Bethesda who has to make an open world game on 135MBs of RAM. They may as well try and make an iphone version if they can pull that off.

Timed exclusives are really gross, though. Especially such a massive gap on them. I wonder how much Microsoft had to pay them to get that advantage. I certainly hope no one is picking platforms based on timed DLC windows.

If you're on PS3, selling the game and rebuying it for PC seems like the best solution. It's been on sale a good number of times, you can easily transfer your save, and even with a crappy PC you can get it to look better. Also, mods.

The game is still completely unplayable on the PS3, so who gives a fuck if the DLC is coming to PS3 or not. I really wanted to like that game, but I'm going to have a hard time supporting any more of their games when they're shitting all over a third of their potential audience.

People should fuckin' sue Bethesda over that PS3 version. The fact that they were able to get away with releasing a product that broken in 2011 and being shockingly unwilling to do major fixes to it is utterly appalling.

Haven't had any of the bugs reported on the PS3 version except for the memory one, which was supposedly fixed.

As far as the DLC goes, if the first two aren't heavily discounted come actual PS3 release, I won't be picking them up. They sound cool, and an excuse for more time, or even a new character in that world after killing everything I had getting the platinum trophy sounds great to me, but unless they come with a pretty serious apology (read: cash money!), it just doesn't seem worth it to me to support something that's treated like a red-headed step kid.

The Iphone 5 has 1GB of memory, way more than the PS3. Even the 3GS had 256MB. The Galaxy S3 has 2GB. It's kind of insane the power you can get in a phone now.

    @Overbite:

"I don't see the appeal of Skyrim DLC on the PC when you have hundreds and hundreds of free mods to mess with."

I have many, many mods on pc. And skyrim dlc is MORE tempting to me than many others who play vanilla skyrim on a console. Because my skyrim now has so many more features, immersive touches, etc. It's a better game, and thus you want the new content for a better game - more than you want new content for a lesser game.

Mods make skyrim incredible, however they don't expand game content in the same way. What bethesda can do in months would take a modding team five or ten years. So a bethesda dlc is a different beast entirely. Do I want the leveling to expand and respect higher level gameplay, or do I want combat system to feel more tactical and less 'mashy'? Do I want npc's to be covered in snow, or hundreds of new creatures? I can turn to mods for that and hundreds of other small additions.

Mods change the existing game in meaningful ways, what they don't do - is add a new worldspace. Add a new %'tage of actual game to skyrim. Betheda does that, and that's something else entirely in terms of excitement. One kind of skyrim improvement is not all encompassing. There are many kinds.

Edit: It's a better game, however it's also a more crash prone game if you don't spend a few solid hours understanding load orders, mod cleaning, etc. So it's not perfect either. I'm not trying to give that impression.

The delayed releases are really good at taking away the interest I had in getting DLC. I completely forgot about the other DLC and now I have no interest in getting it at all. This one will probably be the same.

I see it like this, Bethesda's games are usually extremely buggy.. so the Xbox 360 gets to beta test it for the rest of us !

Microsoft are such a bunch of cunts, nobody is going to play Skyrim on 360 over PC just for shitty DLC. Great that they dick over the platform with an OS they make too.

@BaconGames: Dude, you should totally play Morrowind, it's amazing :P And yeah, the stuff they're doing in this upcoming DLC seems really cool.

    This.

Morrowind was (and still is) amazing. The exotic look and feel of the world is much more interesting than high fantasy (Oblivion) or Nordic folklore (Skyrim).
