Yea but MW3 is more of a "95% of the sales are day 1 buyers" where as skyrim is more like profits might take a month for word of mouth to get around to those that never played another elder scrolls game but I could see it making more money then MW3. Also rightfully so as it's a tremendously better game.

I still wish the PC were the 'leader' in the gaming space. Skyrim has instilled a lot of promise for the PC in my eyes...the last few PC games I bought were severe disappointments on the PC in particular: Rage and Dead Island were console games that got shafted BADLY on the PC, the platform they should have dominated. Skyrim is more stable than Fallout3 from what I've seen so far, but it still crashes on an order of magnitude more than its console versions. There's lot of good reasons for this, but as a PC gamer I cant help but feel a high level of frustration when I say, "why didn't I get this for PS3/360?" when I have an awesome machine to play PC games on. /senseless rant

I ordered my copy on the Wednesday before the launch and have not yet received my copy. I contacted the store and they said that they can't get it from anywhere in Europe for at least 1-2 weeks. That's pretty rare, usually I've received my game orders on launch day if I've pre-ordered them.

Let's hope it makes more than 775 millions and see more games as good as skyrim in the years to come.

Best $60 I've spent this year. Skyrim is fucking incredible and it's great too see Bethesda rewarded for the enormous efforts they've put into the game. I shouldn't even be here typing this. I should be playing.

I agree completely.

Seconded. 16 hours in, and barely done any of the main quest. My quest log has about 30 random quests, not including the main ones. I can't wander for 10 minutes without something amazing happening. I absolutely love this game.

You mean cheap ripoffs.

As soon as I'm finished with Dark Souls I'm gonna get and play....Zelda.

But after that I'm gonna play this.

Screw MW3; this game was better in every way, save for multiplayer.

The press release mentions that 50% of the 7 million units shipped were sold in the first 48hrs and they are having difficulties manufacturing enough units for the restocking demand. Now the thing I find interesting is that we don't know if these numbers include the Steam sales or not, they probably do but you don't really "Ship" a digital release, there is a 1:1 relationship between Shipped and Sold with most digital releases (unless you put some arbitrary limit on downloads). This may mean that they haven't sold through half of the physical launch copies but either way these numbers are amazing.

More money for Bethesda! Less for activision!

#62 Posted by Masha2932 (1237 posts) -

Wow. Congratulations to Bethesda and Zenimax. This year seems to be a record breaking one with

1. Call of Duty breaking records
2. Mortal Kombat and Portal 2 selling over  3million copies

etc

#63 Posted by Demoskinos (13822 posts) -

You gotta wonder what those numbers would be if steam released sales data. I know I purchased the game directly off steam.

According to a video game journalist here in Norway, it doesn't include Steam-sales.

That's a crazy amount of money for a high fantasy RPG to make.

Hehehehe Now there will be a ES 6 its future is secure!

#67 Posted by reelife (296 posts) -

<- 60 hours in and I don't see an end yet... not by a long shot.

#68 Posted by NZt (9 posts) -

What's amazing about this game, just 5gb in size, i've spent 53hours so far playing on master difficulty, level38, and just started the elder scroll part of the main quest and doesn't seem like any end in sight, you go do a side quest and end up finding 2-3 more sidequests just to complete that first one, the amount of content in this game is just sick. Well done to Bethesda, they deserve this success.

#69 Posted by w00ties (186 posts) -

Excellent. Bethesda more than deserve the amount of cash they're hauling in with Skyrim. It's true quality. Now, my only demand is that they use this opportunity to invest even more into their next Elder Scrolls title.

#70 Posted by 2HeadedNinja (1446 posts) -

@Demoskinos: As far as I know they never do, digital sales are never included in those numbers.

It doesn't, steam very rarely discloses it's sales numbers.

My thoughts exactly. ^_^

#74 Posted by Brendan (7508 posts) -

It deserves it. Although it's not really surprising, it's good that games like Skyrim are very successful.

I have no other obvious statements to make.

#75 Posted by AiurFlux (899 posts) -

I took this week off from work for a little R&R and to play Skyrim. It is both the best and worst decision I've made this year. Best being that it's fucking incredible, worst being that it's sucking the life from my withered husk. About 50 hours in and I'm nowhere near finished. I'm only halfway through the main story ripping the shit out of dragons now (level 44).

It's nice to see Bethesda getting their dues, but it's also a shame to see MW3 still dominating with the same old shit for the fifth year in a row.

#76 Posted by BLKZOMBIE (96 posts) -

Yeah, I agree with everyone else. In the times of $60 games lasting 6-8 hrs, I have gotten my money's worth 5 fold and still counting.

#77 Posted by bayushi (55 posts) -

I am totally jonesing to play more of this. I may just fire up Greg's 12 hour marathon and watch it now...

#78 Posted by Rhombus_Of_Terror (2055 posts) -

Congrats Bethesda :)

#79 Posted by Vlad_Tiberius (207 posts) -

Yep, Norse mythology inspired RPGs and military shooters...just like 4 or 5 years ago.

And they say gamers want evolution, innovation, new genres, new stories and new ideas...my-my, how far have we come!

What's next: another zombie game? Another WW2 shooter? Another Warcraft MMO clone?

#80 Posted by CashBailey (775 posts) -

Okay, now how about a patch or two.

#81 Posted by Bumbuliuz (182 posts) -

Anyone heard anything about when Greg's marathon or parts of it, will be up at the site? I didn't have a chance to see it since I was driving cross country (to get Skyrim ;) and I really want to see it.

#82 Posted by acerek (9 posts) -

Now we just need mod tools so the PC version's UI will actually be good with a keyboard and mouse.

#83 Edited by Darklight (207 posts) -

@Bumbuliuz: lt's already on the site. Saw them on the front page not long ago.

Edit: Nevermind, it was oblivion pre-marathon, my mistake.

Awesome! ESVI: Summerset Isle is all but confirmed.

#86 Posted by RsistncE (4496 posts) -

As much as Patrick enjoys jerking off Bethesda, the idea that there's a negative correlation between Skyrim and Call of Duty sales seems a little ridiculous. The markets aren't even the same and I highly doubt people were having to decided between an extremely mainstream and popular shooter or a epic fantasy-RPG. Either way the game is excellent and has done extremely well but I wouldn't put too much weight on the "OMFG IT ALMOST BEAT CALL OF DUTY" argument.

#87 Posted by LethalKi11ler (1400 posts) -

A million times deserved, goes to prove good games are also rewarded! About 40 hours in and no sign of an end, might be one of my best purchases decisions in a while, loving the game, worth the praise!

#88 Posted by arcn (112 posts) -

Oh Bethesda, you make games that I really wanna play and they sell very well, yet for some reason you can never release one without some kind of problem that nearly ruins the game for me.

Seriously the PS3 version is so poorly optimized that I can barely play for an hour before everything turns into a slide show and it eventually freezes.

Perhaps you need to reinstall it? I'm playing it fine and I'm 25+ hours in. Also do you have a slim or a fat PS3?

#90 Posted by Vexxan (4598 posts) -

$60 of all those millions were from me, don't spend it all at once now!

#91 Edited by arcn (112 posts) -

@PieGuy: I got a fat 80gb PS3, reinstalling it is the only thing I haven't tried at this point, it tends to get really bad if I even think about fast traveling or speeding up time, and the rain makes it twice as bad.

#92 Posted by Hitchenson (4682 posts) -

Nearly 100 hours in, like 8 or so more to go. I am so insanely hooked, it feels like I've seen but a fraction of the game still. A main quest that was actually pretty damn good too, in a Bethesda game! By Talos!

Haven't bought the PC version yet (but I will when the GOTY edition is released), playing it on PS3 right now without any major issues, just the usual Bethesda jankiness. Care to explain why the PS3 version in particular is trash?

#98 Posted by benspyda (1891 posts) -

I bought both Skyrim and MW3 on the same day, but I'd say I'm not the norm. I just can't help playing everything. I actually enjoyed MW3's single player (multiplayer same old same old) but definitely Skyrim is a leagues better game.

#99 Posted by roughplague (131 posts) -

I bought it TWICE!

one for the ps3 since I ordered it, and for the pc cuz of mod support

#100 Posted by Underwhelmed (44 posts) -

@fisk0: Because all games played on anything besides a PC are trash by definition whenever you ask a PC-warrior Luddite.
