I'll probably choose Nord or Imperial.
Because I'm racist like that...

The fifth installment in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise is set in the eponymous province of Skyrim, where the ancient threat of dragons, led by the sinister Alduin, is rising again to threaten all mortal races. Only the player, as the prophesied hero the Dovahkiin, can save the world from destruction.
What race will your first character be?
well I was Imperial for my first Oblivion playthrough so I'll probably be Nord for this one
but then on my second playthrough I will go to the old standard Redguard
Lizard folks for me too. I tend to play Argonians... even when they have hair on their head.
@Verb4tim: Hey, is that the Neuromancer cover as part of your icon?
The races haven't been announced, but supposedly there are more choices than usual.
I'm tossing between a Dark Elf or a High Elf. Dark Elf for the massive fire resistance that race always has, and High Elf for the increased magicka pool at the cost of 100% weakness to magic. There have been ways to alleviate that huge weakness, so when that is taken care of it will always end up as a really powerful spellcaster race in the latter end of the game.

I might play as a Nord or High/Dark Elf. Hoping for more variables in appearance sliders.
I usually play as a Breton, because of magical resistance! Same reason I roll with a drow in D&D games.
I was an Ogre on my first playthrough of Oblivion, but then about 3 hours in I decided it wasn't for me and restarted as a Dark Elf guy that has a mix of expertise in magic and combat, a war-mage or something like, I forget the name that's listed in the game.
Nord, and fuck the Argonians. Those lizard motherfuckers invaded Morrowind in the aftermath of the volcano erruption. I really hope a race war happens where we slaughter them fucks.
Depends on how the races differ in this game and what kind of advantages they each have (and how significant those advantages are in the context of the game). But I'm predisposed to start as a Wood Elf. Archery is fun.
I usually prefer magic characters so I'll probably pick a High Elf. If the main storyline is a lot stronger than previous games, then I might be inclined to roll with a Nord.
Still waiting on Bethesda to bring real dwarves into the fold.
Usually go Dark Elf. Did a magic/stealth hybrid that worked out for me really well in Oblivion, and with the way the skills seem to go now, looks like it might go even better.
Nord does seem like the obvious choice for Skyrim, though. And it's been awhile since I've done a pure warrior in, well, any RPG.
Possibly an Orc. I was never really into Orcs till I started a Morrowind playthrough as one as a joke. Then I started taking it seriously, and now my Orc can kill almost anything in one hit with an axe. It's pretty badass.
If not that, a Breton. Or, hell, maybe I'll play as something I've never played as before. A magic central character might be a challenge.
