Why are most women taller than men?

#1 Posted by Jep (37 posts) -

It seems like I'm looking up at more women than men.

You're just a shortarse.  Reality says hi.

#3 Posted by Jep (37 posts) -

@SeriouslyNow: You just called me a shortarse. That's awesome.

Because tall women give Todd Howard a boner.

I wonder how many people posting here realize that this thread is about women in Skyrim specifically.

Yep, I started laughing as soon as I entered this thread.

We're superior.

I'm playing Bosmer so almost everyone is taller than me.

There is nothing wrong with tall women unless you are only packing a 6'er or less.

#12 Posted by wrathofconn (1483 posts) -

Check out Scandanavia in real life! Them ladies are tall too!

#13 Posted by Jep (37 posts) -

I actually think they make men and women the same height in games because they don't want to be offensive. Nothing says sexism like depicting a 5'10" man next to an "inferior" 5'5" woman. It's not like the average height of all men is 4-5 inches taller than the average height of all women, or anything.

You do know that your post does not make any sense. The defenition of average is taking all heights, adding them up, and then dividing them up by the number used (men or women in this case). Thus, if looking individually at men and women, not all women are 4-5 inches shorter than men, but on average they all are. Also, there is nothing sexist, about that, as it is not an opinion (in order to be classified as sexist) but a fact. Actually trying to make all the women the same height as men in order to be more equal, is actually sexists in itself, as it implies that women have to be changed to appear more equal.

True, compared to other women in the world. Yet, they are not as tall as Scandinavian men.

Why does it bother you?

#21 Posted by pixieface (122 posts) -

@Jep: Or, you know, they just didn't want to make models of different heights because there were more important things to spend resources on.

Why the fuck was this thread even resurrected?

Reflects real life.

Why is everybody sooo ugly in skyrim, that's my problem.

I want them to look like the wemen in Final fantasy....especially that warrior goddess who I can cross swords or something with

#24 Posted by wealllikepie (818 posts) -

its how they give birth to such strong men bro

#25 Posted by stoic665 (59 posts) -

What's the matter? Can't stand the sight of a strong Nord woman?

I picked up on the same thing as the OP, but then I shrugged it off and remembered it's a videogame. There are plenty of other things in the game that might need addressing rather than the character models. My character is a Male Nord, and he seems shorter than Lydia, who is my only companion (forever alone joke here). Maybe it's the perspective; maybe I'm just seeing what has been pointed out, but to me it's not a game-breaker. But bravo to the person I quoted. You're going to fit in well here on Giant Bomb.

In a world of dragons, lizardmen and magic, THAT seems strange to you.

If you look at the height modifiers for the different races, the female models are mostly a bit shorter than their male counterparts. I think maybe one race has them the same height and one has them a bit taller than the males, (I want to say Khajiit) but for the rest of them the women are indeed a bit shorter.

You answered your second sentence with your first sentence. People in real life are fugly most of the time.

#30 Posted by ShadowConqueror (3224 posts) -

The player's vision is significantly shorter than their actual height, or at least that's what I've noticed when switching from 3rd to 1st person views.

#31 Posted by Matfei90 (1279 posts) -

Nords and Altmer are typically taller than other races, both men and women. Skyrim has a lot of Nord ladies, go figure.

That's probably why.

#32 Posted by deathfury (492 posts) -

The first person camera is set at chest height, so everybody is taller than you.

The first-person POV of the player character, anyways. It feels like I'm looking out of my chin if I pay too much attention to it, but it really isn't a big deal.

As far as the OP goes, I think you're imagining it. If I were really ambitious I would load the models into Nifskope and find out for sure, but I'm pretty sure the models are all about the same height across gender but differ by race of course. Maybe its the hairstyles have more vertical emphasis on the women.

Funny you should say, cuz that I was thinking the same thing.

I started with an imperial male, so I rationalized that the Nord women would be taller. Nut after starting a Nord male, they're still taller.
