Expected more for the buck

Dawnguard was more of Skyrim with one major exception: it wasn't fun. The vampire quests make the Dawnguard quest look like a circus of laughs, but the Vampire's quest turn out to be surprisingly bland as well. Much of what I wanted from the expansion made me look back to the previous expansions for the Elder Scrolls; Shivering Isles, Bloodmoon, and Tribunal. All offered something new and different, new expanses to explore complete with new cities and dungeons. Dawnguard was more dungeons including a new Dwemer ruin in case anyone was worried you were done fighting falmer. There is also a new area that is so dull and vacuous it makes Oblivion's gates feel like fun. This is not to say that the entire thing is devoid of content, there is plenty to be found if you go looking for it. There are a few cool story tidbits but if you are over level 50 and playing on a harder difficultly the Vampire Lord and Werewolf forms even fully maxed with perks are completely useless compared to leveled blades and spells. Coupled with Bethesda's legendarily glitchy products, boom, every once in a while you become a vampire lord falling through the abyss. Seriously the vampire quest line took me a little over 4 hours going slow, and my Xbox froze no less then 4 times during it. If you want to use the morphs, save often. This seriously felt in no way like an Elder Scrolls expansion, but more like a large mod made by closeted masochist Twilight fans.

If you choose to go down the path of aiding the Vampires, you’ll encounter the Vampire Lord Harkon, who seeks to accomplish what would give Vampires dominance over all: Destroy the Sun and create eternal darkness. Siding with the Dawnguard will give you slightly different results, but either way you’ll be fighting new enemies alongside vampires or dawngua...

Finally a DLC package for an amazing game like Skyrim!SKYRIM is an absolutely amazing game all by itself. But this isn't a review on the basic game. Instead, about the newest DLC, Dawnguard! For the manageable price of 1600 Microsoft Points (20$), you can have it downloaded in a matter of minutes from XBLA or at the main menu of the game under "Game Addons".Sadly ...
