If you heat up a lock with a torch for a min, the lock becomes easier to open!

I just found this out, pretty cool right?

I haven't tried with a fire spell yet though.

It's true, and my reaction was the same!

There is actually a book somewhere that explains this too.

I just tried it on a Master lock with a lockpicking skill of 48 (with no perks whatsoever). Doused it in flames for fifteen seconds. No change whatsoever. Still managed to break into a minute later though since they aren't all that hard anyway. Besides, how does the physics even work if it were true?

Sorry I just realised you meant using an actual torch as to a fire spell (which I did) but at least we know fire spells don't work. If it does actually work with a torch, then that's awesome though.

Yeah, there is a book somewhere that talks about softening the metal in the locks and therefore making it easier to pick.

KIND OF BLEW MY MIND! : D

I already found lock picking to be easy, but now this is just cheating!

I'll try this next time I run across a difficult lock, I've got a couple torches in my inventory I think...

Sounds useful, but I'm already good at picking master locks. Fortunately my Lydia always carries a torch so I'll try it out and see how much easier it is.
