It turned out the evil was inside of us all along! 4

Alternate Title: ArbitraryWater versus Grindhouse Bootleg Resident Evil and its barbed-wire friendsThough the Metacritic stands at a respectable 75, I’d say the general reception of The Evil Within was far more... mixed when it came out last October, one of those games that I knew I’d have to play for myself to have any sort of concrete opinion on. One of the advantages of getting a PS4 during the summer drought months is that I’ve been able to catch up on stuff I’ve miss...

    Resident Evil Within. 13

The Evil Within is a wonderful thing. While it unfortunately isn't quite a return to the survival horror of old, it at least makes for a brilliant blending of the then and now. It involves a lot of the hallmarks of the latter day Resident Evil games, while also incorporating the harsh nature and limited supplies of their forebearers.Being lead by famed Japanese developer Shinji Mikami and his newly founded studio of Tango Gameworks, The Evil Within paves a path with its influences firmly placed ...

Death Is Your Only And True Friend In The Evil Within 3

I don't know about you guys, but this year has been very interesting for me gaming wise. It seems that every game I got excited for was either mediocre or completely disappointing, whereas the games I barely even considered to be worth my time really surprised me. The Evil Within is, obviously, the latter. Upon initial announcement I was barely interested, but as time passed I started to warm up to it and as it turns out, it's one of the best purchases I've made this year. Yes, I'm not kidding, ...

    Horror Comes Home 2

Video ReviewWhen Shinji Mikami was revealed to be working within the horror genre once again it got a lot of people excited. And rightly so. The man has worked on arguably the two greatest horror games of all time as the director of both Resident Evil Remake, and my personal favorite, Resident Evil 4. Which brings us to his latest project, The Evil Within. Trying to bring big budget console survival horror back to the top after a rough few years to say the least seems to be an almost impossible...

While archaic and occasionaly clunky, The Evil Within is still a tense and memorable survival horror experience 0

“You have an odour of blood about you” chimes the nurse, but she doesn’t know the half of it. I’m safe now, though, in this… place. I’m still not quite sure what to make of it yet, drawn to its whereabouts, as I was, by Debussy’s Clair de lune – the Frenchman’s stirring composition acting as a beautiful beacon amidst this violent chaos. The aesthetic is that of a mental hospital – all locked cells; sterile, “smells like medicine&r...

    The Evil Within Playing. 1

So, let me start by saying I love survival horror, I consider Resident evil 1-4 and Silent Hill 1 - 3 to be genuinely great, scary and enjoyable experiences. I say this just to let you know I was really, really looking forward to The Evil Within, the creator, Shinji Mikami, has created some of my all time favourite games and even gems such as Vanquish are games I replay constantly. Everything looked like what I wanted from a Mikami-made horror game, but oh how the train of hype and gullibility h...

Shinji Mikami Would Like You to Once Again Enter a World of Survival Horror. 0

It’s rather difficult to talk about The Evil Within without mentioning Resident Evil 4. After all, the games share a director along with a selection of other similarities despite a tonal shift and a less stationary-while-shooting protagonist. Though where Resident Evil 4 was very much an action game masquerading as horror, I couldn’t shake the feeling that The Evil Within was attempting to adhere more closely to tropes of the survival horror genre while desperately longing to be an ...

Several flaws tarnish what should have been a great action-horror game 0

I'm a pretty big Mikami fan (Resident Evil 1&4) as well as a diehard survival-horror fan (mainly SH and RE) so I was really looking forward to this one. However, opinions on this game are as polarized as could be. Every review I've read for this game has called it either a frustrating piece of trash or one of the best horror games in years. Given my RE/Mikami fandom, I thought for sure I'd love it but sadly, I ended up leaning more toward the hate-it camp. Well... I didn't hate it and I actu...

An unpolished pile of garbage 0

The Evil Within is not a good game. There are plenty of decent game mechanics here, since it uses the cookie-cutter survival horror mechanics of exploring/shooting/looting, but it is so poorly put together that it is a complete waste of time. Here is a list of things that ruined the game for me:One or two save points per chapter mean you are relying on the game's autosaves most of the time. And the autosave locations are garbage. You will have to redo entire sections if you die just before ...

    The Evil Within 0

The game is interesting and obviously intense..It swallows you deeper with every chapter, the feeling in your stomach when walking down the 'empty' hallway and simmilar.. It has zero positivity, it's all dark and negative, always having the feeling you dont have a chance of 'making it out' alive. But that's what makes it outstanding. You have to beet the odds, and they are all against you .Shinji Mikami has done a great job, as well as the others who were involved in the game creation. Mix of ho...

A Stellar Illustration Of Generic Survival Horror 0

Sometimes it feels unfair to judge a game based on promises from the outside, that the game itself on the box doesn't promote... However the fact that it was "developed" by Shinji Mikami being a prominent feature of the game's advertising (that's how they've written it on Amazon), and constant references to how he was the mastermind behind the original Resident Evil games... Then it's hard to not build up expectations...And guess what, it plays and handles just like Resident Evil 4... To the ext...

    The Evil Within. 0

This was my first survival horror and liked it. The story is quite good, ma there is a awsome atmosphere. Techically its has highs and low but in general its is a very good. The Playstation 4 version isn't on 60 fps but its is anyway enjoyable. I spent 35 euro for the game and in my opinion this is a good price for The Evil Within. There a lot of good boss fight This survival horror is asbolutely better than Outlast or similar and after this game I chose to pla during this year Alian Isolation.M...

The Evil Within sets the new current standard for the pure survival-horror genre . 5

I came into The Evil Within knowing almost nothing about it , other than "It's the new Shinji Mikami game " ! Which got me excited , especially for a long time survival-horror fan like myself . Tango Gameworks is Mikami's new dev team published by Bethesda . He is responsible for groundbreaking horror games like Resident Evil 1 , 2 , and 4 . He also helped make fun-ass games such as Devil May Cry , Viewtiful Joe , Vanquish , and Shadows of the Damned . The Evil Within never previewed well to the...

    Truly Evil 0

Before directing The Evil Within, the last horror game Shinji Mikami had directed or been involved with was the undeniable classic Resident Evil 4 in 2005 – not counting (the awesome!) Shadows Of The Damned collaboration with Suda51 and Grasshopper, as that was a borderline parody of the genre more than it was truly a horror game – and having now finished his latest offering, it seems like what the genre has become has noticeably escaped him. That’s not to say he’s the o...

It was ok (from what I remember in 2017) 0

I stole this review from my steam review I wrote in 2017. But to add, it is an ok game. Not amazing, but ok. If it is on sale, it is worth a look. But, not at full price. It feels like somebody read the wikipedia article for Resident Evil 4, and decided they could do that too. But they never actually played it, and never watched anybody else play it. It is a good looking game, but it is, often, frustrating, and annoying with some of its level design, and world building. One of the nice things ...

This game is great! Don't listen to negative reviews! 0

Just finished it and i got to say if you like Resident Evil 4 ,Silent Hill and survival horror in general you should pick this up , Shinji Mikami did a great job with this , it's one of his best atmospheric games and best art design i have ever seen in a game. It is the kind of game that will stick with you for a long time. The only bad thing is that sometimes the controls can feel a little stiff but that it's a minor thing compared to the greatness that is in this game....
