The Godfather II
Game » consists of 11 releases. Released Apr 07, 2009
This open-world crime sequel follows the events of the second film and attempts to make you act like a mobster and think like a Don in the Godfather universe.
Gamespot's verdict is in, and it aint pretty
I wasn't expecting much better to be honest. 4.5 for gamespot probably translates to a 6.5 or 7 somewhere else though.
"GameSpot still reviews games? Who knew.P.S. Check out the video review, it's currently broken. It stops at 27 seconds. Oh jeez, GS fails on every level."= O THE BROKENNESS OF THIS GAME IS AFFECTING THE VIDEO BUFFERING?! ZOMG!
EA, WHAT HAVE YOU CREATED?!?!?!?!? AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Vinchenzo said:Buffer? No, the video stops at 27 seconds. Not a buffering problem. It just cuts off."GameSpot still reviews games? Who knew.P.S. Check out the video review, it's currently broken. I stopped paying attention to Gamespot after Vinny left around last march, because by that point there was nobody left on the editorial staff that I trusted review-wise and the Hotspot was the only thing keeping me going.
The overall metacritic average of 72 shows that there are at least a few people who had differing opinions, but I really don't care about this game anyways.
"Damn, after listening to the Bombcast this game sounded awesome."trust me it is awesome I bought and I love it
if you like fun games you'll love the godfather 2
Wow...
EDIT:
Watching GB member, Artie's review, makes me feel a lot more positive about this game, after having read and watched Justin's review
"BoG said:but the game is actually pretty goodThey don't need it because The Godfather is allready an established videogame name, so they can just sell off the trash to idiot consumers who never inform themselves about the purchases they make."Yikes. Looks like this one didn't turn out how EA had hoped. Where was quality control when they were needed most?
The Gamespot review is ridiculous, and it's nitpicky as hell. It's like they wanted it to be bad. For instance:
"You play as Dominic, an important member of the Corleone family who somehow managed to make it through the epic movie trilogy without ever wandering into camera shot despite apparently being involved in a number of key scenes."
This is hardly something to complain about. How would the video game work without playing with the fiction a little bit? You should just play as Fredo Corleone and sit in a room rambling like an idiot for 20 hours? Or this tid bit:
"Other times they prefer to enter through different doors while running backward, or perhaps crash through a window for an entrance that really gets them noticed. If you turn your back on them, though, they'll be warped instantly to your side, sometimes."
First of all, if you want to "not be noticed" you should be crouching, and then your AI buddies don't crash through windows like the review claims. Secondly, I don't see what the problem is with warping AI partners. The game is supposed to be fun, not realistic. Sure, maybe if it's not realistic and you weren't expecting it you'll be a little discombobulated, but I don't see how warping AI buddies ruins your experience or hinders the gameplay in any way shape or form, so who cares? One last thing:
Annoyingly, there's no consistent rule set in the world of The Godfather II, so while some fences can be cut through in specific locations, other, identical-looking fences, are impenetrable. Doors are another example; some can be kicked down, some can be lock-picked, and others can't be opened even with dynamite.
Yes, welcome to the world of video games. How come I can hold 99 potions and 99 phoenix downs, but not 120 potions and 0 phoenix downs in Final Fantasy? I don't know what Justin was expecting from this game, but I'm pretty sure every video game made in the history of the world has inconsistencies, and it hasn't ruined our experiences with them yet. It seems like Justin didn't like the game for some reason that he never explains, and then uses blanketed complaints that are overly vague and never explains why these problems don't work in this game, but work for other games.
It really sounds like Justin is reviewing a preview build or something:
__________
Dated visuals, voiced lines of dialogue that seemingly play at random and often inappropriate times, dead bodies falling through scenery, a car hovering in the air about half a mile off the Cuban coast, being able to snipe enemies through walls and doors that haven't popped into view yet, guards who fail to recognize you as a threat when you walk into a federal building and crack a safe, cars and pedestrians that appear and disappear long before they leave your range of vision, getting stuck in an animation somewhere between a regular walk and a crouch after vaulting through a window--these are just some of the problems we encountered in the 13 hours or so that it took to play from start to finish.
__________
I played the game for 24 hours in total, and I never had any of these problems. My copy came in a green box with a picture on the disc, I wonder what his looked like? I'm glad Linkyshinks saw my review and feels more optimistic about the game (and post it here, thanks for that, and for enjoying the review) because I really believe the game is about pure having fun. Not being the latest technical marvel, or bringing video games to a new level of consistency and realism.
Anyways, I hope this wasn't too long.
unfinished state, how could this happen? fucking pathetic.
"Artie, your review is a million times better than the GS review."Thanks, I'm assuming most people watched the video and didn't read my written one. I think gamespot focuses more so on their writing, whereas I focused on the video :/ But I'm glad everyone is holding it to such a high standard.

"unfinished state, how could this happen? fucking pathetic. That may be true, but GameSpot in general doesn't make any sense. I'm not saying the website specifically, but review websites in general like 1Up or IGN. Movie reviewers today are ran by single personalities. You don't read "The Chicago Tribune Movie Reviews" you read Roger Ebert's reviews. It's pretty easy to figure out his philosophy on what makes a movie good or bad, and you can figure out if you disagree with him or not pretty easily. With GameSpot it's multiple personalities, and while we may all know who they are, your average new reader doesn't. So a 4.5 could mean "it's alright" or "it's the worst thing ever." Most of the people in this thread had to wait for you or BoG to come in and inform us that that's how they review games now.oh and don't be mad about a score that low. they're just finally using the 1 to 10 scale properly, instead of abandoning 1 to 5 and using only 6 to 10 like they used to. "
Justin complains about the inconsistencies of the game, but his review has inconsistencies of it's own. The multiplayer maps are too big? This is the same man who gave GTA4 a 10, does anyone recall a GTA4 multiplayer map that wasn't enourmous? I'm not saying GTA4 should get a 9, or that Godfather II should get a 10, but if you're going to review games, review them the same way every time. And maybe I'm going on a personal crusade a little too much, since I get frustrated when an underrated series/game like The Godfather is put down but this stuff just makes me mad. Maybe he should start complaining that "you can't survive multiple gun shot wounds in real life."
I get frustrated really frustrated when underrated games get put down also I've had a personal crusade for Valkyrie Chronicles going on since it came out now I have one for the godfather 2.
I just want people to know that both of those games are really good Valkyrie Chronicles was my game of the year last year and godfather 2 is my game of the year so far this year but infamous is probably going to take that spot when it comes out.
"unfinished state, how could this happen? fucking pathetic.dead on,,,, this game is terrible and the strategy elements just make things boring and tedious . This is coming from a person who loved the first game.oh and don't be mad about a score that low. they're just finally using the 1 to 10 scale properly, instead of abandoning 1 to 5 and using only 6 to 10 like they used to.its guys like this that made me leave gamespot though:http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26841087&tag=topics;titledude is definitely paid by prototype devs to advertise on forums no doubt."
"Vinchenzo said:I just laughed really hard. And yes, this game did look like a big smelly shit."GameSpot still reviews games? Who knew.P.S. Check out the video review, it's currently broken. It stops at 27 seconds. Oh jeez, GS fails on every level."= O THE BROKENNESS OF THIS GAME IS AFFECTING THE VIDEO BUFFERING?! ZOMG!"
EA, WHAT HAVE YOU CREATED?!?!?!?!? AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gamespot's score is one of the lowest, almost an outlier

don't really care though
wasn't expecting much out of this game
Ryan said Godfather 2 was a pretty good game, and it doesn't look like a 4.5 from what I can see, I guess I'll just have to try it out.
"am i the only one who hated mafia 1 ?who - 1 meseriously i found it really boring and hard to get in 2"
Thanks RHCP.
And about Mafia II: I played the first one for the Ps2, I wasn't very educated about games when that came out, so the idea of playing a PC focused game on console didn't seem like a bad idea at the time. I didn't really like it that much, but I might've played it for four hours, max. I'll definitely check out the 2nd one, since I can afford virtually every game that comes out now (Hooray disposable income) it has sparked my interest.
"am i the only one who hated mafia 1 ?It wasn't a good opinion because you only wanted to fuzz the air, I really don't know if you have played Mafia but ultimately that wasn't a good response or even a necessary point.seriously i found it really boring and hard to get in 2"
"who - 1 meits an opinionchrist people are uptight"
Mafia is an influential game. In fact, believe it or not, Mafia influenced GTAIV to ditch the outlandish gameplay of SA and take the realism road. I imagine that all the GTAIV fanboys hate the Mafia series.
