The Goonies II

Game » consists of 3 releases. Released on November 1987

Mikey must save his friends, the Goonies, and Annie the Mermaid from the Fratelli family in this NES platformer.

So about that ending...

In Jeff's Encyclopedia Bombastica entry on The Goonies II, he mentioned that the game ends with Mikey saving a mermaid. Since he didn't get to show that part, I figured I might as well post of a video of the ending here for those curious about it.

Inexplicable? Perhaps, but then again, this is a game that follows a movie where a treasure-filled pirate ship captained by One-Eyed Willie is located just off the Oregon coast.

"Hurrah for Konami and the Goonies!" It just broke the fourth wall, did Kojima direct this?

Fish aren't mammals after all. But then again she has hair...

I don't think Kojima developed any NES games. He was an MSX developer.

Having never seen The Goonies, I have zero context for if this is insane as it is or not. I'm guessing it is.

@Hailinel: Yeah I figured as much. It would've been crazy if his name popped up at the end though.

@ArbitraryWater: Aside from some character names and maybe the basic concept of some locations, the game has virtually nothing to do with the movie.

That's basically what I figured.

or anything for that matter. It's just an empty void of flesh.

I'm certain that rule #34 applies to that mermaid.

I like how the reporter says "THE END" at the end of it.

The weird children you can make with her disturbed me.

And how it immediately jumps to "GAME OVER" after that without a credit roll or anything.

Yeah because who wants his name on this piece of art.

i got the feeling that the game had nothing to do with the goonies when i was made and it was given the goonies name to make it sell better

What makes you say that?

I can taste the sarcasm.

@Hailinel: just didnt seem to have anything to do with the goonies.

This was posted in the comments of the Encyclopedia Bombastica video as well, but there's a band that basically devoted an entire song and music video to that mermaid. The music is definitely take or leave it genre-wise, but it's otherwise... surprisingly elaborate considering the source material.

"I have a hammer, but only on the inside" just about summarizes my own take on the human condition.

@Pepsiman: That was amazing. Crazy elaborate editing, too.
